Bonuses From Multiples of the Same Building

Kingmaker

So we have just started the kingdom building section of the campaign. After about a year, the player seem to be unable to fail economy checks. So, as a question, for the bonuses a building gives to Economy, Stability, and Loyalty, do they stack with multiples of the same building? For example, do multiple Shops in one city add their bonuses to Economy or does only the first shop add the bonus?

Yes, they stack. Economy check, more or less, are not something most kingdoms fails. Its how they collect money via taxes and so forth. They tend to become a question of how much is collected this month or that month and on rare occasions a 1 is rolled.

The real challenge for the GM is to know when to throw the characters a curve so they have to stop kingdom building and deal with it. Some groups enjoy the kingdom building enough that it could be its own game. Other groups would rather get back to adventuring. The former requires the GM's intervention. The latter would rather just get back to the adventuring and leave the whole kingdom building behind. They do not require that much incentive to stop growing their kingdom. However, the latter group will generally be at a disadvantage when going into mass combat because they will not be able to build large enough armies to deal with what comes their way...

... dun dun dunnnnnn .....

Fair enough. I noticed it is much easier to fail a Stability check anyways so it's okay.

Also, I swear I've seen Jon Brazer Enterprises before, but I don't know where...

I'm not sure if you're being serious or sarcastic (its tough to tell without hearing tone of voice). If you're serious, well ... Jon Brazer Enterprises published the Book of the River Nations: Complete Player's Reference for Kingdom Building. This book has all the exploration, kingdom building and mass combat rules collected into one volume and expands on these rules into one spoiler-free volume for players. Now players and GMs have all the rules they need without making more work for the GM by making them give the players the rules.

You can get your own copy of Book of the River Nations: Complete Player's Reference for Kingdom Building at Paizo.com or at your local gaming store. Be sure to read the reviews, including the SIX 5-Star Reviews!

If, however, you were being sarcastic ... nevermind...

No, no sarcasm implied, sorry if it came across like that. I saw the Kingdom Building product you guys had come out with when I first was looking up Kingmaker but didn't get it at that time because of budgeting issues. I couldn't really check when I made the post before since I was working. But, I took a look at it about an hour ago, and it's really cool. I definitely will be adding in it my game. Thanks for the help.

On a related note, do building bonuses stack when you upgrade your buildings? For example from Library to Academy? Library gives +1 Econ and Loyal. So, if I upgrade to an Academy, is the +2 the new total?

Adventure Path Charter Subscriber; Starfinder Charter Superscriber

When you upgrade a building, you only get the modifiers for the new building.

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Lost Omens, Rulebook, Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

To expand: when you upgrade a building, remove the old building modifiers (except one-off modifiers, like unrest), and then add the new building's modifiers.

Yes, some modifiers can drastically change when upgrading.
