So, I was looking through my ____ and I found something cool...

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

This thread is for sharing cool Pathfinder RPG things you've discovered and want to share with others. It can be something you found in a book, on a website (such as d20pfsrd.com or PRD). Feel free to include 3rd party PFRPG material in the list of cool things you might want to talk about.

For discussion purposes here is a template you can use

What: The title/name of the cool thing you found

Where: Where you found the cool thing. This is where you'd put a link if you have one.

Why: Why you think the thing you want to share is cool. This could be for mechanical reasons, flavour reasons, or other reasons.

I'll go first with an example

What: Thassilonian Runes

Where: Rise of the Runelords #5 (also d20prsrd.com.)

Why: A subsystem that allows players/GMs to enchant the bodies of a character (something fairly common in fantasy) while limiting the number of runes allowed. Really cool for characters wishing to have a small magical trick available to them that doesn't rely on a magical item. Nothing says classy like a fighter waving his hand and having a luxurious palanquin convey him where he wants to go. Traveling in style and comfort isn't just for the wizards anymore.

For GMs it also allows them to add additional powers, capabilities, and statistics to NPCs without allowing the players to just loot the items off the body once they've defeated the NPC. You can do this with templates, but I find that players get tired of fighting templated creatures after a while. Thassilonian Runes gives the GM another lever to use when designing encounters.

What: Spherewalker prestige class

Where: Rise of the Runelords 2, d20prfsrd.com

Why: It's a specialty priest of Desna. The mechanics are fairly well balanced for a cleric and there's some possible builds for other classes. Plus you get to turn into a swarm of butterflies. How awesome is that!?

The Exchange

What: Hungry Ghost Monk Archetype

Where: Advance Player's Guide

Why: One of the Monk's main abilities is Ki, And when you run out, things start to look ugly. The Hungry Ghost Monk gains Ki for taking out your opponent or scoring a critical hit. The Hungry Ghost Monk can also steal health in the same manner.

I feel like going again. :)

What: Low Templar prestige Class

Where: Inner Sea Guide

Why: With this cool prestige class, any class can become a great melee fighter.

What: Summon Cacodaemon spell (level 2)

Where: Horsemen of the apoc: Book of the damned vol 3

Why: So you can ensure that irritating NPC/PC paladin of the lawful stupid demeanor goes straight to the fiery place by getting a soul gem after killing them and feeding it to a devil/demon/evil outsider of your choice.

What: The Inheritor's Crusader prestige class.

Where: The PFSRD. You can find it here.

Why: A three-level prestige class that gives you two awesome abilities - Destroyer of Tyranny (which lets you grant re-rolls to allies and even yourself against ongoing compulsion/charm effects), and Sword Against Injustice (which you should read, because it's hard to explain - but for RP reasons, it is the coolest thing ever).

What: War Master Class

Where: Genius Guide to the War Master, also here

Why: A mostly non-magical leader-of-men class that really offers a lot for more combat and out-of-combat situations. The flavour is pretty good and the mechanics seem to work very well too.

What: Samsaran race

Where: Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Dragon Empires Gazetteer, also here

Why: Cool race that remembers previous incarnations. Plus they get a +2 to two mental stats and a racial ability to help offeset the -2 CON. Cool flavour and a decent mechanical niche.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

What: Dance Macabre

Where: HERE.

Why: It's a monster that comes with it's own soundtrack. It's also a creepy monster that isn't easily permanently defeated.
