Prestige purchases before playing a character

I would reference the guide first, but I dont have it with me right now, so here's my question:

If you have a character who you have never played through a session yet, but have given GM credit, can you use some of the GM credit prestige to make purchases per the rules in the guide?

Yes, as long as all Prestige Points spent are recorded as normal in the Items Purchased/Conditions Cleared section of a previous Chronicle sheet.
