An Accounting of Abbadon

Considering the date, a preview of a more sinister sort seems in order. A while back I put together a listing of the devilish denizens of Hell (one you can complete with the CR 14 gylou and CR 19 puragaus in Bestiary 2). But with the upcoming release of Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Horsemen of the Apocalypse, the third volume in our Book of the Damned series which focuses on the pure evil fiends known as daemons, it seemed appropriate to give daemonkind the same treatment. So here you go, a daemon for every dark deed and nearly every CR.

Ushering in his brethren, we have Jorge Fares's vile venedaemon, just one of the new breeds of daemonkind revealed in Book of the Damned 3. Also, before any one asks, no we haven't done this sort of listing for demons yet, but considering all the sources on the list above, maybe that would make a fine Bestiary 3 preview in the coming weeks. Only time will tell.

Horsemen of the Apocalypse hits store shelves next month.

If you look at the image file name, he's a Venedaemon. Rather impressive-looking for a CR 5 outsider I must say.

Venedaemon ftw!

Great artwork on the daemon! It looks really creepy

Is there no 4th type of deacon, one for each of the horsemen?

Actually, I believe the Thanadaemon's the 4th deacon.

This book is going to be awesome! I have really enjoyed this serious and hope it continues with the other evil outsider/planar races.
Also a generic Book of the Damned covering evil planar creatures not associated with a specific race would be nice. Although it might have to be structured a little differently with each chapter focusing on a particular creature, it's history, and who or what (if anything) rules/leads that race. For example Night Hags.

But now that the big three D's have been done any chance we might see some similar treatment for a Book of the Blessed or whatever you might call it. Angels, Agathions, Azatas, and Archons.

I'm hoping for more info on the Aeons, Inevitables, and Proteans as well. :D

Yeah, I would love to see some books like these for Angels, Aeons, Azatas, Proteons, Agathions, Inevitables, and Archons.

Also Oni, Rakshasa, Azura, and Psychopomp would be cool as well.

I want a book on Ponies.

Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Friendship is Magic.

Written by Todd Stewart, of course.

Everytime I read the blog title, I expect to read about a daemon that kills through accounting - I think a 5th horseman of accounting, taxes, and red tape would be appropriate.

I, for one, am glad that this only is due next month. One of my characters is traversing Abaddon via Styx currently as a petitioner, hoping to regain mortal life. With a bit of luck she'll be safely back on Golarion before the horsemen hit the streets ;)

Oh you don't want him to write it, he'll just write pages and pages of "Rarity is the best pony".

Cannot wait for this book, just wish it was coming out in time for Halloween. Might do a winter-horror adventure in the wilderness with log cabins, wendigos, and daemons. Irrisen maybe, with daemons of famine working with the Winter Witches of Baba Yaga in a barren forest on a night with no end.

Aren't daemons personification of the various ways that mortals get killed? Can we have a list of which daemons are which flavor of death?

Yup yup! All that's covered in Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

Never can tell. If folks want it, these boards are the best place to start voicing your desires and what you'd like to see in hypothetical book on celestial races or a an equally hypothetical future Book of the Damned.

What Mik *really* wants is a 256 page hardcover "Tome of Being so Fluffy Good That it Hurts".

With a pair of pacifist Derghodaemons sharing a tender moment by a lake on the cover.

Is that a quote from a Dr Seuss book?

What is a vulnadaemon? I don't remember that being in Bestiary 2.

Daemons are deft at creating illusions. Look again. :P

(Just got that fixed, THX!)

malebranche wrote:

There isn't such daemon in Bestiary 2 because it will be in Bestiary 3.

EDIT: Only two daemons in Bestiary 3? Hopefuly there will be other fiends to pick from in that book (no pointing of claws, so I won't wave my tentacle in general direction of demodands...)

I was exceedingly pleased with some of the artwork in this book, with the venedaemon being among those pieces. It's really cool when something you created ends up getting a kick ass piece of art that's spot on with what you had as a mental image already.

Can you spoil to us from what the "vene-" part comes? (and by the way what is the role of that entity)?

As I understand it, the latin 'vene' has a rather convoluted connection to being a root word for poison which eventually came to be associated with a generic association to various forms of sorcery and witchcraft.

Otherwise, more only when Paizo spoils it in a blog or gives me freedom to openly blab about it. ;)

Yes on a fourth Book of the Damned! It could be about Demodands, Divs, and, uh, we're out of evil "D"s aren't we? Maybe Devilkin? We still don't have a real good idea about where the Ghalshoaton fits in Hell's hierarchy. Or maybe expand beyond the "D"s and look at kytons and asuras. Here's still plenty more ground to tread on the Lower Planes.

Hey he asked about a latin root, which is a topic I'm so not an expert in. So I might be horribly wrong in my answer (am I?). I never actually spoiled anything regarding the book :P

Wesley hates me now for poor knowledge of Latin or something. Arg.

Asuras are cool... Or hot; of course the main Asura races in Indian myth do start with D: Daitya and Danava. So are Divs.

I know the book is about Daemons and their Horseman lords, but will the book perhaps have any information on the other powerful denizens of Abbadon, such as Urgathoa and Zyphus?

Just an innocent inquiry.
