ok so just a little fun social experiment. I stated myself out using the core rpg. using these stats what would you make me out to be.
I am 5'8 220lbs broad chested and have a short red beard.
Str: 15
This is based on carrying canoes in the boundary waters, MN about 126 lbs over my head would def slow me down.
Dex: 10
There was once a time when this was much higher, but now adays I tend to take hits, but keep going.
Con: 14
This goes back to my previous statement, i kind of take the personal slogan never give up to heart, however i do have diabetes soo yeah. However I never miss a day of work b/c of ailment so...
Int: 16
I speak 3 languages so I gave myself the stat that gives me 3 bonus language slots
Wis: 14
My wife says i am not very perceptive, but my job depends on me being wise about my choices so I did my best
Cha: 18
I work with kids and can control about 90 at a time so i figured they 1/3 cr so... i gave myself this score

So Str 15, Dex 10, Con 14, Int 16, Wis 14, Cha 18

Using those stats what would you build? CRB, APG, UM, UC

PALADIN!!

Now me.

STR.16 I'm 6'4" tall and naturally strong.

DEX. 7 I'm severely overweight and am clumsy falling down a lot. Mostly from issues due to my health.See below.

Con.7 I have a plethora of medical issues and I ma sick a lot. I'am Diabetic and have had a partial amputation of my left foot which doesn't help the DEx.

INT. 14 I am fairly smart but no genius.

Wis. 10 I am not perceptive and rarely learn from my mistakes.

CHA.7 I hate people and they hate me.

I would say I am a commoner/Hobo/Bum/Lunatic

Wow a 37 pt build. You are pretty heroic. You could be Bard, Sorc, oracle, or cleric no problem.

Not terribly interested in stating myself but I thought I would give a shout out to the BWCA its been way too long. Closest I have gotten last few years is a week long stay on Lake Namakan but that was in a cabin so it doesn't count. I am going to have to plan a trip soon.

ORACLE...EPIC

Liberty's Edge

STR.13 - A bit stronger than average, but not by much.
DEX.15 - I tend to be quick to react, have good balance, etc.
CON.13 - A bit higher resistance to booze and I can take a beating.
INT.16 - I've always been amongst the smartest of my peers (if not outright smarter), but then got a high-end engineering gig where I'm no longer top dog (but still holding my own easily enough). Might need to be a 17.
WIS.12 - Despite a tendency to run into objects (I'm always distracted), I tend to be able to keep my head on my shoulders quite easily in most situations and can read people decently well.
CHA.10 - Fairly normal.

I would probably be Wizard/Barbarian/Eldritch Knight. I'm too ADD to focus on one path, and have a tendency to let emotions get the better of me (EDIT: But only when doing so is to my advantage.), but when I get focused on a task it gets done quite efficiently. Too bad that focus doesn't last for the long term.

As for the OP: I agree that Paladin would be a good choice, but I'd do Oracle of Battle/Metal instead.

sorry i probably over statted, but i was using the stuff in the book.

maybe i should have made everything ten except the measurables like:
Int: due to the languages, Str: Carrying capacity and perhaps charisma cause i like thinking of el. school kids as CR 1/3 monsters sometimes

So new stats
Str:15
Dex:10

First of all I think you're pretty cool. Your charisma would be higher if your weren't so hard on yourself. :)

I'm going to say you are.... A magus!

My Str, lower than average 9

dex 15 I can juggle a lot, jump around well dodge projectiles.

Con 16 haven't been sick but 3 times, withstood serious beatings.

Int 10 your average wasted potential Joe

Wis 12 I miss a lot, but I'm no fool, I know a scam.

Cha 14 not everyone likes me, but I can make anyone like me.

Its all good Gnome I wasnt saying you should scale back!

Ok let me try:

str 10 Average. In high school I could bench a truck but that was oh so long ago

Dex 14 Pretty good on my feet must be all these years of hockey!

Con 14 Dont mind the cold and can take a bit of a bruising. Dont get sick often /knock on wood

Int 12 Average. I consider gamers to be just above average to well above intelligent people.

Wis 13 Generally make good decisions and offer sound advice

Cha 16 I am a team leader as a professional so helping people develop and leading meetings is what I do.

This seems like it could be fun!

Str 8; I am not particularly strong anymore form lack of exercise.

Dex 10; I generally react fairly quickly to a changing situation, but that's more from practice than aptitude. Other than that, I'm not clumsy but I have little in the form of natural grace.

Con 15; You call 'em sick days, I call 'em days I felt like sleeping in. I may not be able to sprint, but I can do long hikes and backpacking.

Int 14; I have always been fairly smart and made it through classes without much effort, though it's been a strain near the end of my engineering degree.

Wis 14; I give pretty good advice, can read people well, and am rather perceptive. I get more in trouble from being impatient or unconcerned than not knowing the consequences

Cha 17; I don't always love being a social creature, but everything that defines Charisma has always come easily to me.

Holy crap you guys are strong. Less than 5% of men in a fit works can manage a 135 pound military press and half you guys are all pressing way over that.

Amazing.

I know right? Gamers are incredibly fit and smart on average.

Here I am.

John - level 3 expert

Str 12
Dex 10
Con 10
Int 13
Wis 9
Cha 10

STR: 8
-I am a good deal weaker than most men (and perhaps most women).

DEX: 12
-I'm a decent runner and generally react quickly.

CON: 9
-I'm sick frequently and am quite feeble but hardier than some.

INT: 15
-Shut up and agree.

WIS: 7
-I frequently miss the obvious. Very frequently.

CHA: 10
-I'm friendly and more or less good natured, but generally esoteric and weird.

What am I?

Me.

I' m a Former Army fitness instructor. Current Max bench press 330lbs.
So I'm guessing STR 16. (I'm strong but I'd consider an 18 to be olympic)

I never get sick and Crossfit is my main sport (every day) and I'm usually in the top 5 of that very fit demographic. I made Semi pro as an 18 yr old before joining the Army in Australian rules Football. (Players can average 15-20kms in a 2 hr game that is also a contact sport)
Con.16

Dex. I would not call myself overly agile. But I almost got my marksman badges for shooting.
I'd say a 13 or 14

Int. 16. In Highschool I just missed out on DUX (valadictorian) and was accepted to University to study Sports Science (but joined Army instead. No regrets).

Wis. Sorry to Say I do make bad financial choices and I still haven't figured out my wife.
Wis 9

Cha 8. Unfortunately I have a very over the top personality and don't drink. Social interaction is difficult for me since I can go on and on about a topic for ages.

I think I'm a Magus... (hope I'd survive to get heavy armor though)

To be fair, if we assume that 2 points is a standard deviation then any score of 13 or less is very reasonable. To not have at least 1 score of 14 or above would actually be unusual, as there is a roughly 32% probability for any given stat to be 14+ (and there are 6).

However, there should still be more scores of the 11 or lower range. Perhaps a confusion between what you got via skill ranks and what you got via stats is to blame?

To defend my own scores, I know for a fact that I'm 3 standard deviations above mean on int (tested that way multiple times, graduated with 2 degrees in less than 5 years with high honors in two of the hardest majors at the school). However, thinking on it, I may have fallen into the trap of Ranks versus Stat. I likely have ranks in sense motive while my wisdom is probably lower (like an 8). I left Cha at a 10 as a "default" as judging oneself on such a quality is hard to reasonably do objectively, but I doubt I'm more than 1 or 2 points off.

To revise my scores:
13 Str - I stand by this. I can easily do multiple pull-ups, am not appreciably slowed when carrying ~50 pounds, etc. I will note that it used to be more like an 11 but then I started doing non-zero work-outs.
13 Dex - Lowered because some of my dexterous stuff may be from a rank in acrobatics (with my int I have several skill points to spare)
13 Con - I stand by this. Rarely sick, high tolerance for various medications, high tolerance for booze, etc.
16 Int - I stand by this. It's been tested in several ways on several occasions.
8 Wis - Easily distracted and spacy. I must have a good base save in Will or Iron Will, though, because my will save factors are definitely good (not easily frightened and such, I have a good story related to that actually). I also likely have sense motive ranks (well, 1 anyway).
10 Cha - Still have no good basis for judging this anywhere but "average".

I would assume I have ranks in the following: Acrobatics (1 rank), Sense Motive (1 rank), Knowledge (Math/Engineering) (max ranks), Craft (Software) (max ranks) and possibly Climb (1 rank)

It's also likely I have the Courageous trait.

That still leaves me at a 12 point buy (with the Human bonus used on int). Above average, but not surprisingly so (the default for NPCs in the core book is equivalent to 3 points). My charisma could be as low as an 8 and my wisdom as low as a 7, however, so it could be as low as 8 point buy.

Hmm... Let's see.

I'd probably be a Gunslinger / Alchemist.

Now for the stats.

Str 6. Yeah... Doesn't need much explaining.

Dex 16. I do have fairly good hand / eye coordination. And I was able to bullseye a target my first time ever shooting a bow, and do it consistently afterwords.

Con 8. I seem to be following in the footsteps of the previous posters with having a ton of medical issues and getting sick alot. but I tend to recover pretty quick. Maybe I have endurance and diehard as bonus feats?

Int 14. I read alot. and my mind is almost always buzzing with some sort of (usually random and useless) information...

Wis 7. ...But sadly my common sense and awareness suffer from it.

Cha 14? I'm not really social or anything. But I'd like to think my willpower and personality are a bit stronger then normal.

gnomewizard wrote:

I'm pretty sure you know "common" as a bonus racial language, so you only need Int 14. :)

And because we gamers are so vain, we feel the need to stat ourselves out, usually giving ourselves much higher stats than reality:

Str 13
Dex 11
Con 14
Int 14
Wis 18
Cha 11

Hey! I'm 25-point buy! :)

I should be a Cleric or Druid.

The problem is that it is very hard to tell the difference between what is learned and what is natural, since that is essentially the difference between you stats and your skills. I have tried to take this into account, and am willing to admit some of the scores I gave myself are probably off some, but I also don't have the book on me to check what the benchmarks are. If I had to revise my stats, though, I would probably lower my physical stats and Wisdom maybe a point but increase my Int, giving me:

Str 7
Dex 9
Con 14
Int 16
Wis 13
Cha 17

Whenever I try to do this I get stuck at how much is low base ability score and how much is negative levels and ability drain.

Silver Crusade

Now me.

I kind of look like my avatar picture anyway (but bigger).

I am 182 cm tall and weigh 110 kg. This infernal bear is out of shape and really needs to be more active.

STR: 10
I am totally unremarkable when it comes to physical strength. I am probably less stronger than the people sitting at my gaming table.

DEX: 12
I can do a few tricks with a football and not trip over. I have fairly decent hand-to-eye coordination.

CON: 12
I survived college and ten years of abusing too many nasty things for my body. I do not tend to get sick and fight the flu off quickly.

INT: 14
I have four degrees and scored 142 on my IQ test at university. I do not speak any languages other than English. Sometimes I shine, sometimes others outshine me.

WIS: 10
I can focus when required and tend to have an average awareness of my surroundings. On more than one occasion in a week I will say something I regret.

CHA: 14
I am a teacher and have to deal with up to 200 students in a day. I also consider myself a social animal and tend to have a lot of people around me most of the time.

What am I? I am the BBET.

Nice.

Hehe, I think this exercise is always tempting :) But it's quite hard to do, when we have so little info on how to baseline the abilities. If we use the encumbrance rules for strenght, that one's probably fairly easy, but the rest are hard.

Str: 8 - I'm really not that strong, but hopefully my exercise program is starting to pay off soon ;)

Con: 10 - I think i'm pretty average here.

Dex: 10 - same.

Int: 18 - I have a university degree, I'm very book smart, have a huge amount of common knowledge, I'm good at math and all the humanities and to a lesser degree physics and chemistry and stuff. In a recent IQ-test, I were the only one that actually finished it, out of about 50 different test persons.

Wis: 15 - I'm very perceptive (especially in social situations) I work with people and my degree is in pedagogy and psychology, so I have a large insight into other people and their motivations. This has also always come natural to me and I'm quite willfull.

Cha: 17 - I've been a "leader" most of my life, since I were a kid. I've been chairman of the national roleplaying organization here in Denmark and often gravitate towards a role as leader or mentor. In my daily work I work with people and often in a role akin to mentor or coach. I'm just a likeable guy :)

So in all; Str: 8, Con: 10, Dex: 10, Int: 18, Wis: 15, Cha: 17.

I'm human(?) so I guess I put my +2 in Int - so I'm a 28 point buy - wauw! :)

...unless of course some of the stuff I listed above can be accounted for in skill ranks - lets say -1 to all the mental abilities - and I hit the 20 point buy exactly :)

Some reference points to think about when trying to stat yourself out:

D&D: Calibrating Your Expectations

That should be fun!

STR 11
I am tall (6'2"), broad-shouldered and quite heavy but work in an office and don't do any weightlifting. I believe if I put effort in it, I could become much stronger quite easily.

DEX 10
I am probably somewhat clumsy, but have good manual dexterity - so that should even out.

CON 12
I am rarely, if ever sick and have somewhat of a knack for long distance running.

INT 14
I am university educated and did well. A long time ago I did an IQ test and it came out around 140 (not that I believe those tests to be especially meaningful). I also have a very broad range of interests that I am knowledgeable in. On the other hand I only speak one additional language fluently - maybe a 13 could work also.

WIS ???
Thats probably the hardest stat to assign. I have no idea.

CHA 10
I guess I get along with other people averagely well.

Hyla
perhaps a mindchemyst would be a good choice for those stats. By that I do not mean to imply anything with illegal substances.

Mine:
Str 10, tall but very average, 30-40 pushups
Dex 12, I know how to move quite silently, but I'm no ninja
Con 14, I nearly never get sick, I can't run a marathon though
Int 13, I study mathematics, but I can barely keep up
Wis 9, my sense motive is -1
Cha 9, my ex-girlfriends told me I was charming, but that doesn't seem to be the general opinion, so perhaps it's higher and clashes with my wisdom.

Making stats for yourself is easy. I have all 18s because i am awesome.

Have your friends write stats for you while you are not in the room. Now that is humbling. We did it for a call of cuthulu game where we played ourselves.

Interesting.

STR 10 - for a male of my age I'm probably about average
DEX 10 - for a male of my age I'm probably about average.
CON 11 - I'm a little more healthy than most my age
INT 11 - Not IQ 160 like everyone else on this thread but a tad above average
WIS 9 - I'm not necessarily the most cunning and wise
CHA 9 - I can be a little more abrupt than many others.

See... I'm no hero. I thought the goal was to stat US, not make a fantasy "spend 20 or 25 points to represent your strengths and weaknesses". 10 is average. Most of us should have most of our stats very close to that.

Interestingly enough for the Villains and Vigilantes superhero roleplaying game, you were to start the character generation process by statting yourselves without super powers. (it basically used stats comparable to the AD&D 3-18 range)

15 str. I scare people with my kicks.
18 dex. I can do handsprings, backflips and rarely get hit by kicks in martial arts.
18 con I have been sick 2 in memory
Int. 14 I'm smart but not the smartest, I'm learning two languages at once
Wis. 11 Depending on the day I am either extremely perceptive or badly perceptive
Cha. 14 I get along with most people

Let's see:

Strength: I am slightly stronger than average.
Dexterity: I can juggle, can balance on a railroad tie for hundreds of yards, ride a unicycle, throw knives...
Constitution: most of my life I've been healthy as an ox, but age has caught up with me lately
Intelligence: heh, this is the one that always gets attention. National Merit finalist, degree in physics, 98th%ile on SAT and ACT... You tell me.
Wisdom: Well, I'm filling this out, how wise can I be?
Charisma: I have the ability to get along with just about anyone, when I want to, but I don't suffer fools gladly.

Str - 11
Dex - 14
Con - 10
Int - XX
Wis - 10
Cha - 10

So...Pretty average overall with strong int and decent dex. Probably be a good witch or wizard.

Let e put things in perspective:

Probably doable with Dex 12 and a few ranks in acrobatics.

Languages:
Common; Dwarven, Giant

Gear:
Longsword, Studded Leather Armor, Explorer’s Outfit, Merchant’s Scales, Scroll Case, Maps; Small trading vessel loaded with ceramics, cloth and metal tools

This is of course the fantasy version of me. I think I am about average in most respects, with a slight advantage in Charisma and Constitution, as I usually get along well with friends, family and strangers and rarely is sick and can work hard for hours. I test at the low end of the genius range on IQ test, so that should qualify me for at least an Intelligence score of 14. I am the part owner and chief of sales for my family’s import business (mainly ceramics and tools). I also have a master’s degree in political science and am very well read in history and international affairs. I served in the army and know how to use several different weapon systems. Finally I am an avid swimmer and enjoy sailing with my girlfriend on her family’s sailing boat during the summer and speak several languages (Danish, Swedish, English, some French, German and Dutch).

DEX 7 - I'm a bit of a klutz. No balancing for me.
CON 9 - I have allergies, but am internally healthy though I'm overweight.
INT 13 - I am a grad student of history. IQ of 130-145. However, I have a flaw that prevents me from mastering a language - even with a rank.
WIS 8 - I miss a lot - whether perception or innuendo.
CHA 10 - I sometimes make social gaffs, but I get along with most people.

I'm a level 2 expert. In game, I'd be a wizard with abjuration spells who stupidly stayed up front in melee. I doubt I'd have made it to 2nd level.

I like the idea of stating up friends in a group. Each stat should be averaged, so the friend won't know who voted for what.

1st level Commoner; please keep the cats away from me.

ha!

STR 11 - using the light/heavy loads from the book.
DEX 7 - I'm a bit of a klutz. No balancing for me.
CON 9 - I have allergies, but am internally healthy though I'm overweight.
INT 13 - I am a grad student of history. IQ of 130-145. However, I have a flaw that prevents me from mastering a language.

Just an average city guard. You used to be an adventurer until you took an arrow to the knee (thus the low dex).

Hm...

Strength 10: I think I'm pretty average strength wise. I managed to bench about 140lbs a few months ago anyway.

Constitution: 12-13: I don't get sick as often as the rest of my family, and I was still energetic after helping my friends move heavy things up to their second floor apartment for five hours.

Dexterity 14: I like to think I'm dextrous. I've taken Yoga classes before and caught things without looking. I'm not that good at jumping but have decent balance.

Intelligence 14-16: People keep telling me I'm really smart, and one family member-in-law I barely knew said I was a genius.

Wisdom 11-12: I can concentrate pretty well, and I can sometimes pinpoint which direction a sound came from and how far(approximately) it was even if there are other noises.

Charisma 14: I can make people laugh despite my lack of comedic training. Some of my friends have told me time and time again, but we're still good friends.

So... Archeologist Bard.

Alright, what the heck...

Strength: definitely no higher than average, and probably worse than that. Let's say an 8, but that's probably generous.

Dexterity: See above. 8

Constitution: I have a resistance to illness and tolerance for pain which bely my general lack of fitness. I'll be conservative and say an 11, though I might have gone a point or two higher.

Intelligence: BS in Statistics, BSPA in Public Policy, MA in Political Science, with aptitudes in mathematics, science, and...now I'm just being boastful. I want to say 15 here, but I'll be conservative again, and go with 14.

Wisdom: I have no reason to think I'm better than or worse than the average person, so I'll say 10.

Charisma: Well, I tend to think I'm one of the ugliest people in any room, but I also think I have a decent sense of humor and an ability to smooth over rough situations. I'm also moody, but generally better in groups than I think I'm going to be. Let's say this averages out to a 10.

I am probably somewhere around a 5th-Level Expert. If we're talking about me, being me, and not some mystical, supernaturally-blooded, half-elven version of me, I don't imagine there's any set of circumstances under which I would be anything notable to anyone.

Oh, we're supposed to stat ourselves... hmmm, seems fun.

I'm 6'1", 168 pounds, and currently running for political office (www.DavidLeader.org).

Str: 14 -- completed p90x a few times, good foundation, good lifting. Can carry a backpack for miles without issue.
Int: 15 -- computer programmer, quick-witted and clever
Wis: 7 -- certainly a dump stat for me, I'm neither particularly perceptive nor good at reading people.
Dex: 12 -- Certainly better than most, strong core
Con: 16 -- never get sick, hiker in spare time, can go 20 miles in hilly terrain without being fatigued
Chr: 14 -- good public speaker, strong personality, certainly stand out

So pretty high stats (proud of myself), but nothing insanely over-the-top.

SOOO much fun, keep going it is cool to hear all the arguments as to why you have a stat or don't.

In response to the intelligent question I guess i could have ranks in linguistics since i had to learn those, not born into those cultures naturally. Though i did teach myself spanish. so my int has to be at least 12 for a +1

New stats:
STR 15 (encumbrance Rules)
Dex 10 (age has had its effect on this one)
Con 14 (Never sick)
Int 12 (English and conversational Spanish)
Wis 14 ( My job is a staff coach to over 40 people, and my advice is solicited daily)
Cha 18 (Again 90 Kids all cr 1/3 = 30 1st level cohorts not to mention a staff of at least 5 that range from 2nd lvl to 5th lvl cohorts)

I am a Dwarven Cleric...:)

There was an old game called "TimeLords" where the primary game was the Players playing themselves. That's exactly how the game recommended doing stats (blind group voting and averaging).

Oh, since I commented I guess I'll play...

STR: pretty average. used to scale up the side of ships fairly easily* but I'm feeling those "Middle Aged" modifiers that I just crossed into kicking in. Just started lifting again and it's not as easy as I remembered. Probably a bit below average now.
DEX: nothing too special in the balance department. Used to be a darn good shot, but lack of practice has set in. Probably average.
CON: oh boy. USED to be a distance runner and marathoner. Taken some serious CON damage over the years from age and smoking.
INT: top 1% on the military testing and top 5% on the SAT/ACTs. Not too bad.
WIS: like to think I've learned a bit in my years and I'm pretty good at reading patients as an EMT, but that might just be Heal ranks. Probably not too bad
CHA: fairly grumpy but with a good nature (or so I've been told). Also decent bedside manner with patients and can usually calm down the hysterical ones. Have led sailors in some hairy boardings as a Navy officer and through some shipboard fires, so maybe a bit over average.

I'd probably go:

STR: 9
DEX: 10
CON: 9 (down from 13 in college)
INT: 14
WIS: 11
CHA: 12

* In the Navy, not as a pirate. But pirate would really have been cool too...

The few times we (the groups I have played with) have done this whole "Stat yourself out" thing. I have always found myself having to point out to people how unrealistic some of their stats were. Not saying anyone here is but I would generally throw out some guidelines.

The SMARTEST people in the world (Einstien, Stephen Hawking, Etc.. had 18-20). Most high ranking scientists would range in the 15-17 range. The really smarter than average people we know would range in the 12-14 range.

Hitler had a 18-20 Charisma, unless you feel you could lead a nation your charisma would be much lower than that. 15-17 would be your local social/political leaders. With the average person having a 10 the "Everyone loves this guy, hes really amazing in social circles" guy would have around a 12 maybe 14.

so till now the average gamer has an average in most stats of about 13?
the average person however is supposed to have around 10.

Int seems to be the most obvious, is there anyone who has gone below 14? (except Xabula who frightens cats)

I can understand all those "I can't play below 25 point buy"-people if they think that those stats represent them.
Btw. I speak 4 languages fluently (but not perfectly) doesn't make me an 18 int.
I'm not saying there is no person with two 18's in his ability scores out there, but to probability to have him on this board is quite low.

It's fun to see the other side of "how do I roleplay X in this ability?", and it's about as diverse.

According to the carrying capacity table, to have a 13 in your Strength Score you need to be able to lift 150 pounds over your head.

Very few men can press 135 pounds. Probably less than 5% at the gym. That puts your average fit and strong guy around a 12 in Strength unless he has natural talent or has been an athlete for a long time. I'm not sure I've seen anyone Press 150. It is hard to develop and pretty rare.

Theos and Gnome Wizard can both press 200 pounds.

Thalin can Military Press 175.

This is a bit what it looks like. I'm not saying you all couldn't be that. I just think the ratio of huge body builders on this board is impressive.
