Rise of th Runelords Anniversary Edition - experience progression

Rise of the Runelords

The original rise of the runelords ap was for 3.5, which more or less translates to fast progression. With the anniversary edition being converted to pathfinder and containing some supplimental content, has anyone heard anything about whether it is being expanded to use medium progression like other ap's?

The Anniversary Edition will assume that it's being played on the fast XP track, since that's the closest progression to 3.5's XP progression.

While it would have been neat to add enough new material to make the AP more easily usable with the Medium track... that would essentially amount to about a 32 page module's-worth of additional content spread throughout the entire adventure path... which would have required not only a lot of extra work and design, but expansion of existing maps. All of which is well beyond the scope of this product's purpose.

There WILL be some new content in the Anniversary edition... but not THAT much.

Cool!

My assumption is, mentioning

cannot be done often enough, once the final product is launched. Otherwise there'll be an abundance of threads where people complain about being too low in level to match the suggested CRs.

Well... there's going to be at least one section in the text that talks about this, including a relatively hard to miss quarter page discussion at the start of the first adventure about the topic. And each chapter is going to have an Advancement Track section at the start that mentions it again. I'm pretty sure that folks won't miss it.

I actually really like the Advancement Track sections in the new APs. I find them really useful and really like that they will be added to Rise! Thanks to you James and your fellow Paizonians who are working on this project! Love it! XD

We're playing our current Runelords campaign with the Medium Track and it's working out pretty well. They've been slightly behind in most instances, but they've done well in thinking their way through it, not to mention that I enjoy throwing in some occasional sub-plot here and there. Plus, I'm looking forward to throwing a couple modules into the works so that it will help them level.

Spoiler:
I'll be including the module The Harrowing and using the local scribe Brodert Quink as the one they'll be rescuing in there, as they've grown quite attached to that NPC. I'm still fiddling with the connections, but I'm excited about the fun element since that looks like an amazing adventure!

Also, one of them took the Leadership feat to bring in a cleric for the group. Should make the going more bearable as well!

I ran it with the medium progression as well, but I added a lot of content of my own.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

One thing to consider; if your group is particularly experienced at the game, running them on Medium or Slow will give them a much bigger challenge without overly punishing them at lower levels.

Never underestimate the power of Human Stupidity. ;D

I´m running the A.E. and

Spoiler:
they are at Thistletop in the fight with the goblin chief and his buddies, the comandos and the wardancer
if i keep on giving the xp according to what they are doing, they will achieve 4th level before entering even spoiler=Spoiler] the first dungeon level [/spoiler].
I don´t know if this is so bad because the AP is a little contraditory, in the first chapter it says that PCs should arrive at 4th level at the end of the chapter...
But on the second chapter it says they should be near 5th level in the beggining of this chapter or even getting to 5th level very early on the second chapter...
I will keep on giving the xp they are earning because, heck, they earned, and it´s not giving them even less of a challenge.
