I am GMing for a group of 3 level 9 players, who will be shortly entering Urgir (in Hold of Belkzen) along with 100+ allied settlers (orcs have given permission). Urgir is a the former sky citadel that used to have like hundreds of thousands of dwarves but after the orcs took over, its population has fallen to like 30k, so a lot of the city is empty. Therefore it makes sense for a lot of uncleared dungeons to be about. I'm trying to make/re-purpose a dungeon for my purposes. Originally I found "The Black Monastery," which I really liked. However, it seems too much like a mega-dungeon, and will take more time and advance my PCs much more levels than I want it to.
does anyone have any advice on dungeons (possibly 3rd party, 3.x, or taken from a pathfinder module/adventure path.
In the past I searched for fitting dungeon maps with Google image search, but it took lot of time and the result was never really satisfying.
Then I moved on to free dungeon generators (like Donjon) and filled them with my own encounters. That was an improvement, but the maps look somewhat plain (less so with Dungeon Layout Cavernous etc., but still).
Lately I use Gabriel Pickard's (also known as madcowchef) maps (and decor). They look much better, there are a LOT of them and some can be puzzled together with an image program (I use the free paint.net). You can find some for free, but for full choice, maximum resolution and no legal problems you might have to invest some money.
I was going to suggest something massive like Rappan Athuk or Slumbering Tsar, as you can use a piece of it, but I see you poo-pooed Black MOnastery, which is minuscule in comparison to those two. I recommend AAW's mini-dungeon collection. If you just want something short and simple, that collection, or just one of the individual entries sans collection, has plenty that will fit the bill for you.
