A bunch of garbage

Miniatures

No, not the minis -- they're generally awesome. I'm talking about the enormous package of refuse left over after pulling a single mini out of a big plastic tray that you've just pulled out of a bigger cardboard box that you've just pulled out of a BIGGER cardboard box. Is there any need for this enormous pile of waste (in both material and monetary terms) that's produced just from getting a single mini? There has to be a better way of doing business!

It's not waste. It's fodder for the recycling industry.

I doubt Paizo has any control over how WizKids packages their stuff.

I was kind of feeling the same way, with a caveat. I ordered 1 case, so I had a small forest of trees and plastic refuse at my feet when I was done. I realize they have to ship this stuff safely, and it needs to be in marketable packaging, but I kind of wish there was a stream lined case or brick not intended for retail shelves that just had the minis in a more optimal plastic shell and no cardboard.

I'll just be filling the recycling bin with it all. We have virtually no garbage these days; we only put the big 'ol garbage can at the curb every 2-3 weeks.

And yet there are a couple people who got damaged minis. Less packaging would just result in more.

In a lot of districts the interior packing plastic is not recyclable, it is of too low a grade. Upside, the minimum amount necessary was used.

Regardless less packaging is still better, the R's are ordered in order of most effective, so it is reduce, reuse, and then recycle.

I'm for unbroken minis, myself, and given that there were already some broken, I'm not for upping the percentage of broken minis.

And note, the inside plastics can be used again to transport your minis to cons - so you don't have TSA go through your checked bag and the tacklebox of minis inside it and break all your pewter minis off at the knees like I did last year

That is a very cool bit of trivia. Thanks!

I agree with you 100%.

Does the packaging have an ISO or DIN code on it? This could help tell you what sort of wood was used, how much was recycled and possibly where it came from.

For instance, if it came from British Columbia and was turned into pulp here, we generally consider our pulp to be sustainable and environmentally friendly (Of course we would, we sell it :) - YMMV).

Excess packaging is caused by externalities - if you could require companies to accept back their packaging and dispose of it, we'd have a lot less.
