I'm trying to figure out the price for an item similar to an eversmoking bottle which, instead of opaque smoke, constantly emits a thin mist akin to a mind fog spell except with triple the spell's normal area of effect (60-ft. radius spread),a Caster Level of 15 and save DC of 17.
Seeing as how the mind fog (normally a 5th level spell) has been enlarged twice over, it'd seem equivalent to an 8-9th level spell. When multiplied with its CL and then again by 2,000 gp and adjusted for its duration, it'd seem to be well over 300,000 gp. Is that right?

Are you trying to reproduce the censer in
Correct. We found this item last session in the place you describe and I'm trying to figure out its approximate value since I manage the group's treasure. Although it's stated out, its description fails to mention its value. Probably because it was intended to be mere window dressing; much like many other incalculably valuable items peppered throughout various modules. Regardless, it would seem to be a fairly powerful item that the party could easily use against opponents.
Spell level x caster level x 2,000 gp
An enlarged mind fog is equivalent to an 8th level spell. But this item's effect is actually 300% rather than 200% larger than normal, it seems reasonable to bump it up to 9th level (at the very least). The spell's normal duration is somewhere between the 1 min./level and 10 min./level benchmarks so I'd estimate that it's cost should be multiplied by roughly 1.75.
So, 9 x 15 x 2,000 x 1.75 = 472,500 gp
Even scaling back the numbers a bit to their most conservative values, say an 8th level spell effect and only x1.5 value for the spell's duration, results in the following:
8 x 15 x 2,000 x 1.5 = 360,000 gp
Still on par with a minor artifact!

If your players really want to use it they do not need a selling price...
That's true. Besides, it's unlikely anyone in Varisia could afford the astronomical sale price. I'm simply disappointed that such a powerful/important item isn't better detailed.
just out of curiosity, what did your players do with "that" cauldron?
