1 person marked this as a favorite.

Finally my game group has finished the second installment of this campaign, so to make a big finale, I've built my own version of the Ziggurat.

Ziggurat

Since I used recycled materials (mostly cardboard from boxes), I changed a bit the layout of the building, aside of the scale, because I wanted a massive structure.

Yar!

Very nice Ziggurat there Syntax! *applause*

And yes, it goes without saying that my foam Ziggurat has some layout adjustments as well, but for me it was mostly due to giving all the walls a bit of 'stone slab' thickness.

I look forward to seeing more of your work! (even if it's the rare super event that this one was) :D

Pirate, The vault looks great!!!!
Syntax, that Ziggurat is inspiring! If you work with a lot of cardboard do a youtube search for DM Scotty, he has great ideas too.

Here are the Caves of the Mother I have been working on.....

What do you all use for grid? I made a quick fortress setup with my dungeon pieces (not dwarvenforge) that I'll try to post later. It's the fortress island with the chimeras from City of Seven Spears.

Yar!

For the most part I do not use a grid. I have non-stretchy string with 1 inch marks on it for measuring distance, and have shaped pipe cleaners into cones of various sizes for area of effect effects, and so forth. But for battles where I don't have something built or am not easily able to put something together quickly, I do use a wet-erase mat with a grid, as well as some of paizo's map-packs and a couple of poster maps.

You can see my battle mat in some of my pics, as well as one of the poster maps, but a better pic of them would be this old picture of MY LAIR.

Though even in that pic, you can see some of the 1 foot lengths of string with 1 inch marks on them for use with gridless maps.

Also: *looking forward to seeing your 'quick fortress setup'*

If we are on no gridded terrain we use square dowel rods cut to PC specific movement and paint every other inch black. We use longer sticks for range, line of sight, elevation, and to spit in the eye of Pathagrous.

If you are interested in other gridless options search youtube for DM's Craft with DM Scotty. He has good options and advice on giving up the grid.

I still use wet erase and game paper a lot as well as published maps wit grids, but if I make stuff it is great to ignore it.

I am quite interested in more gridless options. :) Thanks for the ideas.

If you wonder why there is a worm, a dragon and a carrion from warhammer on the board. I don't own any chimera mini's and those were at least all large. ;)

Sweet set up!

Here is a suggestion for a tomb setup. I used this for the undead creature between the artisan and farmer district. It is sort of a crypt under a temple. The concept was that the door on the right did not open until there was a living creature on all four special floorpieces in the corners. The undead creature attacked and then retreated to the room behind the door to recover, opening it by mind controlling four spiders on top of the plates.

In my campaign I have combined the spear and the amphitheatre from the government district into one big encounter area. It just made more sense for us.

Here is a picture for some ideas if anyone wants to do the same.
