My friends really like the tactical aspect of combat in Pathfinder, and they most of the time take teamwork feats, and try to position themselves as best as they could during combat to get every advantage that they can. It made me sweat on several occasions, because one man finds it difficult to answer the strategies of several (i know that my monsters are supposed to lose, i just sometimes want it to be a close call). So, i saw that they were growing increasingly frustrated with the aid another action, especially now when they are mid level and going higher. So, i made a fix. Man you should have seen the smile on their face while they read the house rule. So i decided to share it with the rest of you.
Aid another
When a character chooses to help the other character in some action, he must choose to take the aid another action. Aid another is a standard action that may provoke attacks of opportunity (GM's discretion). The aiding character must roll against a DC of 10, and if successful, imparts a minimum of a +2 bonus to the character being aided. We will call this bonus the base aid bonus.
Depending on the action that is being aided, additional bonuses may be added.
If he is trying to...
Aid an ability check The aiding character must make the same ability check as the character he is aiding. If successful, he imparts the base aid bonus and adds a +1 to that base bonus for every 5 points that the ability check surpasses 10 (+1 on 15, +2 on 20 etc). The aiding character may not impart a bonus higher then his ability modifier.
Aid an attack The aiding character must make an attack roll. If successful, he imparts the base aid bonus and adds a +1 to that base bonus for every 5 points that the attack roll surpasses 10 (+1 on 15, +2 on 20 etc). The aiding character may not impart a bonus higher then his base attack bonus.
Boost the AC The aiding character must make an attack roll. If successful, he imparts the base aid bonus and adds a +1 to that base bonus for every 5 points that the attack roll surpasses 10 (+1 on 15, +2 on 20 etc). The aiding character may not impart a bonus higher then his combined dexterity modifier and shield bonus.
Aid a skill check The aiding character must make a skill check. If successful, he imparts the base aid bonus and adds a +1 to that base bonus for every 5 points that the skill check surpasses 10 (+1 on 15, +2 on 20 etc). The aiding character may not impart a bonus higher then the number of ranks he has invested in the relevant skill.
There, what do you think?

Looks more like a nerf. Reducing the benefit and max won't make it happen more. I can aid another for +4 at lvl 1 with the helpful trait, there are a number of options to get +3 too. At high lvls people will cast spells instead of this because they are better.
Maybe allow aid another to prevent an AOO, or feats to aid another as part of an attack, or something? Make it a lvl check and remove the cap maybe reduce the dc?
Edit: I missed the in addition to part, ,so it's not so bad anymore :) and feat free which is super.
