Question: attack bonus, damage

Beginner Box

I got a Throwing Axe. What should I place on bonus attack and damage in section G for that weapon?

Attack Bonus: Melee or Ranged?
Damage: 1d6 + melee or nothing?

Thank you, and excuse me if my english is not good.

the attack bonus is your BAB + Dexterity modifier. Your damage is 1d6 + strength modifier.

To clarify, a throwing axe may be used in melee or at range. If you use the axe in melee, you use your BAB + strength modifier on attack rolls. If you use the axe at range, you use your BAB + dexterity modifier on attack rolls. In either event, the damage is 1d6 + strength modifier.

Does that make sense?

Just make two seperate entries, one for throwing axe (thrown) and one for throwing axe (melee)

I have melee attack of 5, Ranged attack of 3.. My STR is 5 and my DEX is 3

Throwing Axe (melee)
Attack Bonus:5
Damage: 1d6+5

Throwing Axe (Ranged)
Attack Bonus:3
Damage: 1d6 +5?

Is that correct?
What BAB means?

BAB is short for Base Attack Bonus. It's a number, based on your class and level, that you add to your attack rolls. I'm not sure where it's listed in the Beginner's Box rules, but in the full version of the rules, it's listed in each class's entry.

... and your TOTAL attack bonus is the sum of your [BAB] (which is class and level dependent) + [whatever modifier is used] (Str or Dex) + [any enhancements the weapon may have] (magic enhancement or masterwork).

Actually, it is just called Attack Bonus in the Beginner Box. So if you were a fighter, your Attack Bonus would be +1 (see page 22 in Section F). Therefore, assuming you have a Level 1 Fighter....

Throwing Axe (melee)
Attack: +6 (+5 Str + 1 Attack Bonus)
Damage: 1d6+5

Throwing Axe (Ranged)
Attack: +4 (+3 Dex + 1 Attack Bonus)
Damage: 1d6+5

You can see this attack formula on pages 56-57 of the Hero's Handbook:

"Melee: 1d20 + attack bonus + STR Mod + other modifiers
Ranged: 1d20 + attack bonus + DEX Mod + other modifiers"

What great community, thank you for all your answers.

now is more clear. thank you

So the "Attack Bonus" is given for each class in the Hero's Handbook?

I started my son playing PFR a couple of days ago and it's driving us nuts trying to find this.

Thanks,

Correct, there is no "base" attack bonus in the Beginner Box, it's just "attack bonus."
