Which PFS adventures use pre-published flip-mats?

GM Discussion

Silver Crusade 4/5

When I ran "Assault on the Kingdom of the Impossible", I noticed that it used the pre-published "Woodlands" flip mat. Also, having played First Steps, Part 3 and then looked at the flip mats, I recognized the Waterfront Tavern map.

Do a lot of PFS adventures use the preprinted flip mats? Are any of the maps worth buying just because they come up a few times? Does anyone have a complete list of which preprinted maps go with which adventures?

The scenarios do make ample use of FlipMaps and MapPacks. Nearly every map has been used at least once, some like the Theater & Waterfront Tavern have been used multiple times. It is actually unusual for a scenario not to make use of at least one published map. Because there are soo many maps and scenarios, my advice would be to buy the maps as you need them. Even the ones that are out of print are available in pdf format.

Captan Kristoff (and I know I'm spelling that horribly wrong) has a really really awesome list of what scenarios require what maps.... I can link it when I get home unless someone beats me too it .. my search-fu sucks at work today

Scarab Sages

Cpt_kirstov's most excellent list is here:

Maps Used in PFS Scenarios (updated through 3-04).

Thanks again to him for his work.

The Exchange 5/5

that would be the one i was looking for ... and now have listed for my own personal use again lol..

Thanks for the link to the list. I'll check it out.

Am I the only one who doesn't see the point in buying the pdf for the maps? If I have to print it myself, that means going to Kinkos and having them print it on a big piece of paper. If I'm going to do that, I could copy and paste the picture of the map from the scenario and print that, rather than paying extra for a pdf of just the map. If I'm going to buy a map, I want it preprinted, since I don't own a printer that big.

The difference is the pdf is formated to print at a larger size, while the image in the scenario gets distorted when you blow it up. This is cool for the FlipMaps that are out of print.

The MapPacks are especially easy because you can print them out, laminate them and they are nearly exactly the same as the retail product.

Getting a little distorted when blown up is still better than my hand drawn versions, which is what we use for most maps when I GM.

To me, the whole point of the preprinted maps is to just buy something and use it, without having to put in any extra effort. If I have to go to Kinkos and pay for printing on a large printer, then I may as well just spend that time/effort drawing the map on a blank grid.

The only way I'll buy a map is if I can just get it in the mail, or from a gaming shop that I'd be visiting anyway, and just use it "as is" with no additional work. For that reason, it's too bad so many of them seem to be out of print.

These days, virtually every single adventure does.

Also it sucks when you have 2 tables going, both DMs have helped pay for the lodge's flip mat/map pack library (one of each), and both scenarios need the same flip mat. Happened to us in CT a few months ago. I'm going to download the last few months ad get the list up to date by the end of the weekend.

Edit: thanks for the props guys

edit2: this is now updated as up to date as of today
