Monk of four winds question

Rules Questions

The monk of the four winds replaces stunning fist for elemental fist could i still take stunning fist as a feat later and would it still function as the monk stunning fist?

Well, the feat special info says, "A monk receives Stunning Fist as a bonus feat at 1st level, even if he does not meet the prerequisites. A monk may attempt a stunning attack a number of times per day equal to his monk level, plus one more time per day for every four levels he has in classes other than monk." It doesn't say a monk may attempt yadda yadda if and only if he takes it as the bonus feat at first level. So, apparently yes.

Yes and no.

As Paladin of Baha-who said above, a Monk of Four Winds who takes Stunning Fist by a means besides the monk bonus feat does get the fast progression on number of stunning attacks per day, because that fast progression merely counts monk levels.

However, the ability that gives an ordinary monk Stunning Fist also gives extra properties of the Stunning Fist:

Quote:
Stunning Fist (Ex): At 1st level, the monk gains Stunning Fist as a bonus feat, even if he does not meet the prerequisites. At 4th level, and every 4 levels thereafter, the monk gains the ability to apply a new condition to the target of his Stunning Fist. This condition replaces stunning the target for 1 round, and a successful saving throw still negates the effect. At 4th level, he can choose to make the target fatigued. At 8th level, he can make the target sickened for 1 minute. At 12th level, he can make the target staggered for 1d6+1 rounds. At 16th level, he can permanently blind or deafen the target. At 20th level, he can paralyze the target for 1d6+1 rounds. The monk must choose which condition will apply before the attack roll is made. These effects do not stack with themselves (a creature sickened by Stunning Fist cannot become nauseated if hit by Stunning Fist again), but additional hits do increase the duration.

The Monk of the Four Winds with Stunning Fist does not get the ability to make the target fatigued or sickened or staggered or blind or deafened or paralyzed.

hmm i think your right just trying to understand how the wording precludes gaining those

If I may piggyback a bit here, does this work for all of the moves that replace stunning fist? Like if I was a normal monk and grabbed elemental fist would I be able to use it more, just not get the increased damage? Or if I take Perfect strike, can I use it once per monk level per day?

You need to follow the feat description. Elemental fist says a monk has uses per day equal to monk level plus 1 per 4 levels other than monk but only 1d6 extra damage. If you want the extra elemental fist damage as a regular monk you need the dragon ferocity feat. (dragon style rocks by the way)

Any monk gets the same number of uses when they take perfect strike.

So a regular monk with dragon ferocity can gain the full benefits of elemental fist but a monk of the four winds can't gain the full benefits of stunning fist. Which is kind of lame if you are like me and you prefer the monk of the four winds build and like the dragon style feats.

Of course you could convince your GM to houserule that a monk of the four winds with dragon ferocity can use stunning fist as a regular monk would, maybe with a little extra downtime training.

see Errata or houserule Dragon Ferocity for a Monk of the Four Winds
