Cleric + Improved eldritch heritage

Rules Questions

Taking this feat grants one the powers of either the 3rd of 9th level bloodline power that was selected with previous feats (skill focus in the bloodline skill and the first level power via eldritch heritage). Say I selected arcane as my bloodline and I wished to take the ninth level power called new arcana:

New Arcana (Ex): At 9th level, you can add any one spell from the sorcerer/wizard spell list to your list of spells known. This spell must be of a level that you are capable of casting. You can also add one additional spell at 13th level and 17th level.

Does this just add the spell to my list of spells that I can prepare? Does this even work for a prepared caster?

That is how I would rule it. It would gain you an arcane spell for a divine caster.

Scarab Sages

I was gonna ask the same question just now.

The spell would not have a spell chance failure due to armor, right?

Cleric's do not have a 'spells known', so it wouldn't work. Druids, Rangers, and Paladins are also out. :/

Scarab Sages

Wait, so if you were an Oracle, all would be fine?

That depends on how you think of it. If all these people have no spells known, how can they prepare spells as they by definition know NO spells. Unlike say, a wizard, who can be said to know every spell in their spellbook. Which can include every spell on their list. While you can be considered technically correct, I'd say it's within the spirit of the rules to add a spell to the cleric spell list as the bloodline power permits. Adding a couple spells means IMO that the cleric has developed a few new prayers and meditations that their god and/or faith allow them to use. Unless the cleric in question is just gunning for the most ridiculous of things, e.g. simulacrum, it won't hurt I think.

Yes and yes.

Sczarni

The power was designed for a spontaneous caster class with "spells known", and so as written would only benefit another class with a list of spells known, such as an Oracle, Summoner, Bard, Sorcerer, or Inquisitor.
