When I heard this story I had to crack up/be disturbed by the "HE PLAYS ONLINE VIDEO GMAMES" s*~#. No sensationalism there.

Police waste time investigating a magic video-game lead instead of actually catching a violent criminal. Nice.
Police: "Well, actually, Mr. Evil President, we were hoping to see if the online game would give us any insight as to the motive of the killer..."
Me: "Um... why?"
Police: "Because we watch too much TV and we figure he may strike again in a serial killer fashion."
Me: "Might I suggest you search for him in Palestine?"
Police: "Interesting. You suspect a terrorist connection?"
Me: "You know I'm suppressing the urge to slash your throat right now..."

Assasin's Creed eh? Wow, they're really grasping at straws. Maybe the investigator just wants to play the game for a few days ok? :)
I can see where it *might* be the case for a long standing MMO, like WOW. People get pretty worked up and have made real life threats before (with nothing substantial behind it of course, but you never know).

Actually, it makes sense to me. He wouldn't be the first person to be harmed due to online actions and if he did his online socializing through video games, that's where you have to look. Same if they'd looked at e-mails or facebook.
The sword - assassin creed is flimsy, I'll admit, but I'd also be willing to put money that a larger percentage of assassin's creed players own a sword than is found in the general populace.
