Hoody hoo! I think we might be back on people! I just spoke to the guys at World Coffee Cafe (right across the street from BKGs) and they are willing to let us use the space on Saturday evening.

I'm going tomorrow to take a look at the space, and we'll see if it's a go!

Stay tuned, faithful Golarion Heads!

Unfortunately, the public library closes at 5 or 6 on saturdays. So no luck there... Surely there's a space somewhere in Asheville we could use... I know you folks have been looking around.

How about UNCA? Hell, I'd be up for meeting around noon and getting a library room if we could get a full table and a gm together.

Grand Lodge 5/5 * Venture-Captain, New Zealand—Dunedin

Alright people, we're on for Saturday at 5pm at World Coffee Cafe. It's on Battery Park, right across the street from Blitzkrieg.

We'll be in the back room. I don't know who else might be running a table, but anyone's welcome. I'll be running one, at least.

Come along. Bring a friend. Let's roll some dice.

-Dink

Bravo Dink! I was worried for a few minutes there. I'll see you all Saturday.

The Exchange 2/5

Fantastic! See everyone this Saturday.

Scarab Sages 1/5

I've heard that some guys are meeting at World Coffee tomorrow as a temp. location. Any truth to that? Is it an actual AVL lodge event?

Scarab Sages 1/5

Right. Disregard previous post. I just noticed this discussion went to two pages.... ::redface::

Silver Crusade 4/5

hope the games went well and I'm sorry I missed it (not that sorry though, I had a date). I can't wait for SCARAB and hope to see lots of you there.

Liberty's Edge 2/5

Had a great time running my first PFS game for you all. Hopefully you all enjoyed it as well. I'm looking forward to seeing as many of you as we can get at SCARAB

I had no idea you were running a game that must have been awesome. I'm sorry I missed it.

It was a good game, Strange. Any game in which you come within one raven and a sling stone of TPK has to be a good one. Plenty of "edge of your seat are we all gonna die" suspense. Note to self:

(mage + alchemist + oracle + rogue + ranger) < (any four classes + fighter)

But seriously, the GMing seemed fair (if unforgiving) and the GM's NPC's were well characterized. It was fun and proof that it is possible to limp through a session with no main line fighter. Although I must admit that without the ranger Nansen we'd never have survived.

Also, thanks to Dink for finding us a nice space to game in. Hopefully Blitzkreig will come back for us, but the World Coffee shop is a pretty nice alternative. (Especially so if you like Persian folk music.)

See you folks at SCARAB!

Grand Lodge 5/5 * Venture-Captain, New Zealand—Dunedin

Persian folk music is all I will game to now.

I'm glad to hear that you've discovered the joys of Persian folk music, Dink! I'll be sure to bring all my boxes of Persian folk LP's from my belly dancing days in Tehran. While I'm at it I'll see if I can find some of my Aramaic R&B eight track cassets.

Ok so if I'm a spellcaster (cleric/wizard/sorceror) how many spells do I start with access to? I know how to figure how many spells of which level I can memorize /prepare in a day, but if I have 3 castings per day of spells of level X then does it also mean that I only know 3 different spells at that level to choose from or do I know all spells for my class at level X and I can only have 3 prepped at any one time? I'm making a cleric alternate character...

Grand Lodge 5/5 * Venture-Captain, New Zealand—Dunedin

Divine spellcasters (priest, druid, etc) have access to all of the pantheon of spells that their god allows them access to (thru spheres of influence).

Arcane spellcasters (wizard, sorcerer, etc) only have access to the spells that they know (though they gain the ability to research and learn more as they level up).

An additional bit of note: sorcerer subtypes cannot learn new spells by researching another spellcaster's papers (scrolls, spellbooks, etc). They can (usually) only gain more spells via leveling.

I think that's the gist of it, but I'm hopeful for more interpretation if I've got it incorrect.

Silver Crusade 5/5

Hi All,

really excited to find this thread, can't wait for some PFS on 21st.

Aravandor.... little note about cantrip/orisons... you can caste them as much as you like without it getting absurd... some have spell components and as such it isn't reasonable to think you'd have infinite amounts of said spell components per day... best example is Light. the spell component is a firefly... in a dungeon that you are trapped in for days you'll run out of fireflies if you caste it enough. I'm sure this is done for game balance, ie why worry about Darkvision if every arcane caster can always and infinitely have light caste for the party.

Hope that helps with strategy. Hope to see ya at the next PFS game

Peace,
Luthril

Scarab Sages 1/5

I'm headed to SCARAB on Saturday with some of the guys from Skyland Games (skylandgames.com). Maybe we can get an AVL lodge table for the Special in the 6-10pm slot on Sat? That would rule.

Is there definitely a game on the 21st? Coffee house or where?

I'm pretty sure that we'll be meeting at the World Cafe (across the street from Blitzkrieg) in the back rooms around 5pmish on Saturdays until further notice. We used that space last weekend and it really worked well. The sitar music stretched Dink's mind beyond its limits a bit, but we still ran two tables that night.

I'm pretty sure that there's nothing planned for Sat 14th due to SCARAB in Columbia, but I think we're on for the 21st. Don't take my word for it though. I know I'll be there for anyone interested in gaming. I'm addicted to this stuff, but the beating organizational heart of this group seems to be Dink and Strange Package. I'd wait to confirm any sessions with one of them.

Oh, if you haven't seen the back rooms in the world cafe, ask one of the baristas for directions. That little shop is labyrinthine.

Grand Lodge 5/5 * Venture-Captain, New Zealand—Dunedin

Hey Asheville Pathfinders...

The good news: You're all in for a treat at SCARAB. Del puts on a great show at a convention, and the man is a walking treasure chest. (side note: Is he a mimic?) Additionally, I think you've got at least 10 people from the Asheville PFS attending the event, so you're good to go.

The bad news: I won't be around for the SCARAB convention. I'm claiming the weekend for myself - and we'll start planning the next Asheville Pathfinder Lodge meeting soon after SCARAB ends. It will be at World Coffee Cafe, and it most likely will be 1/21. Stay tuned.

Scarab Sages 4/5

I'll make sure to send you some of the limited edition dice back with someone. I cannot make them give them to you of course, but I will send them :-)

Grand Lodge 5/5 * Venture-Captain, New Zealand—Dunedin

Thanks!!

Liberty's Edge 2/5

Big Props to all the Asheville folk who made it out to SCARAB- we were really well represented in Columbia on Saturday. Special props to the Skyland Games folks- I was with them for Blood Under Absolom and we blew through that scenario.

Hope to see you all at World Coffee on the 21st. I think I might have to go buy a few adventure paths in the meantime, just in case.

Scarab Sages 1/5

That "Blood Under" game was awesome! It was great to see so many familiar faces from gaming at Blitzkrieg. Aravandor's "Bekra" for the other session we played in and had a pretty awesome time overall.

This is just an idea, but the Battery Park Book Exchange has some pretty awesome rooms and corners that we could potentially game in, if we outgrow the coffee shop:

http://www.batteryparkbookexchange.com/

Might be worth checking out.

Grand Lodge 5/5 * Venture-Captain, New Zealand—Dunedin

I'm glad that the SCARAB convention was a success. I will not be in attendance at the Grand Lodge this coming Saturday, but it sounds like you're in excellent hands with StrangePackages and possible (maybe) zylphryx, and possibly other GMs.

I looked into Battery Park Book Exchange. I love the space; they just don't have as much food (or Wi Fi) as World Coffee.

Still, worth a shot.

-Dink

Sovereign Court

I should be able to run on the 21st. I just need to pick up a scenario or two for it.

Sovereign Court

For the players who will be attending on the 21st. I will be running the Penumbral Accords most likely (unless most folks have run through it already). If that is the case I do have Tide of Twilight (which I ran the first go round) and Echos of the Overwatched.

If there are 4 folks who will be there who have not gone through the Penumbral Accords, let me know by posting here. Thanks folks and I'm looking forward to Saturday!

The Exchange 2/5

Count me in for the Penumbral Accords.

Liberty's Edge 2/5

That's two GMs we have on board, potentially a third- We should have no shortage of GMs this time around. Here's hoping for a really good turnout so far as players. Those who can, beat the bushes and try to get up as much interest as possible. Bring a friend or someone who has expressed interest! I'll be seeing who shows up at Hillside Games on Wednesday Night and try to generate some interest and pick up new players via that route.

I may even try to talk my wife into playing. Doubt that's going to happen, but it might be worth a shot. ;)

Looking forward to Saturday. Check the event calendar for a full list of scenarios that might crop up!

Scarab Sages 4/5

I want to work with you guys on finding a location that SCARAB con go to up there with about 4-6 of our game masters and run about 20 sessions of PFS. Put together some dates and venues and let me know. Contact me privately. You have my email. I would like to do this twice this year.

Grand Lodge 5/5 * Venture-Captain, New Zealand—Dunedin

Wow. I'm floored. That would be amazing, and I'm sure the response would be rockin' like Dokken.

(pardon the closet 80s metal headedness)

On the table for discussion on Saturday then, men! (and women!)

Indeed. Del, could you e-mail me with estimated attendance levels from SCARAB? It would help with venue determination and possible hotel/venue combinations. Email is in my profile.

Silver Crusade 5/5

My attendance on Saturday is a little up in the air... got promoted this week at work and that may lead to a schedule change, but if I'm not working I am there for sure!!!! This promotion will mean way more weekends free so that will help with gaming in general.

I have yet to play at a PFS meeting so I'm up for anything thing and I have fleshed out about 8 toons using Herolab... it has a PFS setting that makes characters that are built strictly by PFS rules... pretty awesome.

Can't wait,
Luth

Silver Crusade 4/5

SCARAB rocked! Stu and I got about 12hrs of sleep the whole weekend.

A regular Asheville PFS SCARAB. Mini-Con would be awesome.

I will be there Sat.

Silver Crusade

Hi All,
I'd like to join you all in Asheville this Saturday. I've scanned through previous posts but am left a little unsure of the time and place. Could someone please post the info so I don't show up an hour late halfway across town? Also, should I come prepared with a character or are they pre-rolled and provided by the GM? I'm OK with playing just about anything so I'd be happy to play whatever is needed to round out a party. Fair warning, I probably should be considered a novice player...played AD&D years back in high school and bought the Pathfinder Core Rules book a couple months ago to start refreshing my memories...but there are definitely some cobwebs...

Thanks
Jim

SCARAB rocked indeed. I had a lot of fun and got to witness some great GMing and great play. Del set up a really impressive event. I only regret that I didn't get to attend Friday and Monday as well. Saw lots of guys from Ashevegas too.

Unfortunately about six hours after arriving back in Western NC from Columbia I found out about a death in the family down in Florida. Six hours of sleep and I was back in the car driving south. I'm at a funeral this Saturday in Orlando so I'll definitely not be in attendance in Asheville on the 21st but I will be back gaming ASAP. I may even try to see if I can jump into a PFS game here in town sometime over the weekend...

Anyhow, I'm sorry to miss meeting up with you guys after the con. Keep it going strong and I'll join you all next week hopefully.

PS: Best game I played down there hands down was Pathfinder Society Scenario #2-24: Shadow's Last Stand—Part II: Web of Corruption with Wintalas the Bard and some of his friends. I am absolutely miserable at remembering names, but we had a guy playing a dog-riding halfling paladin who was hilarious. I swear this player was channeling Bruce Campbell when he kicked the door open to a tavern and bellowed "Listen here you degenerates! There's some evil in here and I'm gonna find it!" Between him and Wintalas ransacking offices and forgetting to bring the rogue on a burglary. That game alone was worth the price of admission.

Hi Jim,

My understanding is World Coffee at 530pm. StrangePackage/dinketry, please correct me if I am wrong (as if I am wrong I will be the one showing up at the wrong time and place) ;).

I would recommend coming with a character, though there should be pregens available if you want to run a pregen. If you have not already, you should download the Guide to PFS Organized Play ... it's a free download and goes over the character creation process for PFS (including the way HP are determined, feats that are not allowed, variants for specific classes, etc).

See you Saturday!

Hey Aravandor! I was the GM for that game, and it was damn fun from my side of the table too :) I was just waiting for the Paladin to sneak out later and ask the halfling merchant out on a date... well, at least before someone else in the party drags him out of the building.

If any of you want to have some more PFS Con fun, we're running a large amount of PFS at Con Nooga from Feb 17-19 in Chattanooga. I looked it up, and it's about a 4 hour drive for you folks. Damn the mountain and making it slow to drive over there :)

Anyways, so far we've got 40 tables or so signed up with a bunch more scheduled. If you want in on the action I'd suggest per-registering for games on our Warhorn!

This is the kind of gamer-love stuff that warms the cockles of my heart.

Aravandor, sorry to hear of your loss. We'll look for you at the first February PFS event.

Jasii100....if you don't have a character made up for PFS, try to come to World Coffee in downtown Asheville (on Battery Park Ave) at 5PM on Saturday, and we can help you build one. Make sure you ask the baristas for the back room - it's a bear to find on your own.

Luthril, I'm pleased as punch for your promotion (alliteration is my friend!), and even more pleased to hear that you might be traipsing thru the Asheville Pathfinder Lodge door sometime soon.

I'll be driving this Saturday from Greenville (NC), and hoping to make it to Asheville in time to start gaming around 6PM. I plan on running the first part of Quest for Perfection.

As a complete aside, do you think we should try and piggyback on Fanaticon for the first mini-SCARAB? That's on 5/12/12. They're on Facebook. Check 'em out!!

Liberty's Edge 2/5

I will echo Dink's sentiments regarding your lost loved one, Arvandor. I hope that you travel safe and enjoy warm memories of the departed with your family and friends. We'll keep you in our thoughts this weekend, and keep you posted about when we'll be up and running our next sessions.

Luthril, I hope to see you there! Congratulations on your promotion.

And Dink, I like the idea of seeing if we can reserve some table space for Pathfinder Society Games at Fanaticon. I'll see if I can't get in touch with them and find out what, if anything, we'd have to do to try to coordinate some space there.

Even if Del and company couldn't make it that weekend, it'd be an awesome opportunity for us to raise the prominence of the Pathfinder Society in the Asheville area and maybe drum up some new players or GMs.

The Exchange 5/5

Aravandor, I'm also sorry to hear your loss.

Also for the Asheville folks, I know that it's a far drive, but we regularly run events in NE Atlanta / areas near Gainesville that is within driving distance (Heck, we've had some people drive over two hours from Macon for those game days!). So if you wanted to check out those events go ahead and see what's on the schedule on the Georgia PFS forums. We generally do 2 slots of gaming, but if we get an awesome response we might even try to squeeze a third slot in there!

I don't know if you're doing all your scheduling from the Paizo site, but if you need any help setting up a recurring Warhorn or even a spot on the Georgia PFS forums to schedule events (this allows us to do sign-ups to get the right number of GMs etc.) we'd be happy to help out.

Scarab Sages 4/5

I only want to do a one (1) day event. If I bring 5-6 GMs that will run all day long we will need that many tables and at least enough room to store all of our junk we travel with. You saw how much stuff we bring with us to an event. Its enough to cover two tables and fill the space beneath as well.

If you have a multi-day convention up there then let me know and we can work with them to bring the SCARAB Swarm which would be more than just PFS.

By the way we just landed a contract to offer these cool campaign coins to folks who play in all the parts of a multiplart adventure. They will attach to the SCARAB lanyard and will have the PFS logo and the name of the campaign on them. For example if you complete all four parts of The Devil We Know series (at a SCARAB event or events over time - sorry not available to the general public) you will get one of these coins to hang on your lanyard or just carry around with you. They are really cool. We'll get pictures of them on facebook when they come in - probably a couple of months to get them in.

You can get a lanyard at our website. www.s-c-a-r-a-b.com and we always carry a few with us.

I would be super-excited to participate in PFS during Fanaticon! Maybe by then I'll be GMing...

Sadly, I'm going to miss this Saturday's event. Wintalas leveled up during SCARAB! I'm eager to get back to it, but this weekend isn't going to work.

Any thought to having an alternate day? Like maybe a thurs. night or something?

Silver Crusade

Thanks Zylphryx! That is exactly what I was looking for. I've downloaded the PFS guide and will be registering and creating a series of characters for myself this week so I'll be ready to roll with the punches come Saturday. Hope to see you there.

Thanks for the condolences all. My grandfather had been in failing health for some time. He had his affairs in order so this all feels more like a toned down Irish wake than a dirge.

Kyle: Thanks for that game. It was so much fun. I'll start looking into getting out to Chatanooga in Feb. I have no idea how that will sync with my schedule, but I'd like to be there if I can. If I do get to go to another con soon I'll try to sprout a brain first and be registered for some games before arriving. I'm glad you were there to ask the lost-looking guy if he actually signed up for a game or not.

I'd also consider getting out Atlanta way when you guys are there.

Del, Dink and Strange: I'd love to do a SCARAB mini-con in Asheville. I will do everything within my power to attend. Count me in!

Love the action on this board, people. Looking forward to Saturday. I confirmed with the good folks at World Coffee Cafe for Saturday evening starting around 5PM. MAKE SURE TO ASK FOR THE BACK ROOM.

Also, at the behest of Thorynn, I went ahead and checked out Battery Park Book Exchange. The manager there was sweet and offered us her space, though we would have to reserve it in advance. They've got a bunch of small rooms upstairs that would do well for gaming (one scenario per room). They've usually got music on the first floor on Saturday evenings. Hours are until 11PM on Saturday nights. Wi-fi access is available (not open, but free to anyone purchasing beverages). Outside food is NOT allowed.

Lots of interest in getting the SCARAB folks hooked up with the Fanaticon folks in advance of the 3rd Fanaticon this May. More news as we get it!

I am definitely there tomorrow night!!! Limping through side-effects Friday but I'll fine by tomorrow afternoon. so for World Coffee... bring a snack or buy it there? Book Exchange sounds fun too if we want a change of venue.
