Re: Cleaning Up Our Organization
Pathfinder Society operatives are reminded that, while identification and pursuance of infiltrative and clandestine members of rival or enemy organizations reminds at the forefront of the aims of Pathfinder Corporate, it is in the best interests of the day-to-day operations of our building that Lodge members, after a thorough discussion of strategic and philosophic aims using the facilities on the grounds proper of the Absalom Grand Lodge, please make certain to respectfully return soiled eating utensils, plates, and drinking vessels to the appropriate receptacles provided for used dining implements. A plague of Aspis Consortium agents is one thing, but a plague of centipedes that might result from an unkempt lounge or meeting space in our beloved Pathfinder home would be something that could severely detract from the smooth and efficient functioning of our agency as a whole.
Thank you for you attention to this matter.

Happy Thursday, y'all! Happy Shadow Lodge gaming this Saturday! And a very happy SCARAB to those of whom I'll see in a few hours!!!

Actually, I heard that the families are running a two-for-one special on shivvings and tongue removals this month. We Varisian patriots don't mind our achievements being under-reported. The less you foreign marks know about our efforts to free coins from your pockets, the better.
This is why I hope to work with you in the fight against our enemies!
You should also note, we are not such an easy mark.Aravandor |
Oh, I'm sorry, friend- you must have confused my use of the word "mark". No insult intended! I meant the Varisian term. In Varisian it means "trusted ally and confidante who isn't Varisian and probably can't speak our language." It is derived from the old middle Thassalonian "suhker" meaning "source of income". Many people have trouble recognizing the difference...

None taken friend! We all come from different cultures, so we should not take offense to such trifles. a Mark from where I'm from is someone who is easily fooled, we should not worry about words we share but with different meanings, we should be worried at dealing with our enemies and gathering intelligence about them. No harm done.

In the spirit of Groundhog's Day (the movie), I'll be running all three intro steps in a row, in one glorious marathon run on Saturday, Feb. 2nd! Haven't we played these before? Yes! But surely you've got a new character concept that has been burning a hole in that twisted gamer-brain of yours. Now is the time to launch that character to 2nd level post-haste!
I will be contributing the GM credit to my new Osirion Barbarian/Ninja, Sandshadow. I can't wait to play him, but his build doesn't even make sense 'till 2nd level, so there you go.
See you guys then, with or without shadows of your own!

Scarab was a lot of fun guys. Was nice to establish some comraderie among fellow ashevillains for a few days. Those who couldn't make it were not forgotten though. Like any con, it was amazing the first few days but as exhaustion (and hangovers) took their toll,I was more than happy to say hello to my own bed last night. Plenty of stories about being turned to stone, being savaged by harpies and the strange new Cult of the Falcon of Death will be repeated and retold ad nauseum. I for one am glad to be back and will be glad to game again w with the APL at the best little flgs this side of the Mississippi.

Da... many stories for our comrades. The only thing that could have made the 4 day gaming binge better would be if it was in the Tale with all the rest of our Lodge... May your dreams soon be haunted by the Falcon... get some restful sleep before you let us tell you of he who shall not be named in Lopul.... ;)

Agreed on SCARAB. There were some truly classic moments:
Bulywyf bull rushing through a wall of stone.
"I'm wearing full plate and you are wearing pants ... this will not go well for you".
the power of Irori and the Light of Knowledge striking down enemies ... and the thankful silence that accompanied the following attack to help hide the high pitched scream that surely came out of the cleric's mouth.
PCs becoming lawn ornaments (and realizing on the drive home that we all screwed up by not having either Sarina or Bekra take the shirt reroll that was offered in the first part of the scenario for their failed saves).
having my knowledge of the chase mechanics validated by multiple parties when I had one player tell me after a game I ran that I "may want to review the chase rules in the GMG".
coming 1 round from a TPK in a pre-convention scenario, becoming even more thankful for having Evasion when becoming the main target for an entire combat.
Relearning the pain in the butt that swarms are ... especially when AoE spells are not prepped and Alchemist Fire is in short supply.
Having a PC become more difficult to permanently kill ... those who were there probably know what I am referring to.
Having items purchased for a previous scenario that were not needed then be very fortuitous to have on hand in a later scenario.
All hail Razmir and pineapples ...

Speaking of "good-looking"....I was looking through the Top 32 of the RPG Superstar contest today, and spied something that we can all get behind:
CONGRATULATIONS, Joseph Kellogg (aka RainyDayNinja aka Our Man in Kingsport, TN)!!!!! His wondrous item (Shattered Mirror of the Insect Queen) is definitely worth a read.
I bow to your creative ingenuity, RainyDayNinja! KUDOS.

Congrats Joseph! Even though I hit Dedicated and kept voting, I don't think I ever saw your item Joseph, very cool item. There were several others on the list that I did not see during the voting process.
And Charlie Bell made it in (not an APL person, but one of the con goers at PaizoCon 2012 and years previous that Paul and I know), so I believe that keeps NC in the top 32 again this year.

Thanks! I think I was about 2000 votes in when I finally saw my item, so it was quite a slog-fest to get there. Out of curiosity, what was your item? As far as I know, you were the only other APL person to submit.

It was called Mark of the Leech ... summary of it's function is an AoE 1/day to inflict light wounds (1d8+9), giving the wearer temporary hit points, which he could then bestow upon others (4d6) with a touch. If used on undead the effect is reversed (healing the undead and granting them temporary HP and inflicting the total damage on the wearer).
May have been tagged as a SiaC, thought the MILW affects all living creatures (except the wearer) and the vampiric touch granted temporary HP to the one touched.
I'll be posting it in the Critique My Item thread that should be popping up soon.

Both items sound like fun would be interested to see them in action

Just finished properly leveling Bekra. And I just realized something I should have known all along as a player of a rogue: a successful feint denies the victim his dex bonus to AC. Thus allowing a sneak attack on the following attack without the need to flank. Someone just got a whole lot of skill points dumped into bluff. Question: if I take agile maneuvers as a feat, it would make my CMB equal to +15. Is that realistically high to be worth it at lvl 11? (Dreaming of tripping foes off of cliffs into waterfalls...)
zylphryx |
Yeah, that's entirely possible for a CMB if you build it out properly. And while you still would be looking at a decent roll to succeed on a Combat Maneuver (figure a CMD of 25 would be 50/50 ... but you would have an actual chance for opponents with a CMD of 30+).
And we all screwed up on that last table. We forgot the shirt reroll we decided to bank for later use. If Bekra had taken the reroll on that failed save, the rest of the scenario would have gone a bit differently (though I could very well have still been a lawn ornament for a while). ;)

Not to mention me forgetting my goggles... Though petrification kinda saved my life, that poison was sapping my strength and I was almost comatose. but Having that Archon around was cool, I may have been out of the battle but I could still roll some dice.

Keep in mind that for trips, disarms, and sunders, you use your weapon in the maneuver, and can use weapon bonuses, including Weapon Finesse. I'm pretty sure Bekra has that, so you won't need Agile Maneuvers if you just want to trip.
Also, for reference, my monk at level 8 has +16 to grapples and +17 to trips (+15 if they're part of a flurry).

Off the top of my head, Osirion got at least 2 from that one game.

That's a great point, Rainy Day. Thanks for the info! Suddenly a spiked chain is looking pretty interesting. Still, sounds like agile maneuvers will only make him a decent grappler so I'm considering another feat... If I take lunge then I have another question: when I activate it and take the -2 to AC, do I still threaten and am I able to attack near me at normal melee range in addition to attacking and threatening at reach, or does my kukri become for that round a bona fide reach weapon meaning I only threaten and attack at reach 1? I could see a valid argument for either ruling. Do you guys know?

Well, Scarab was a lot of fun, but the week leading up I was so busy clearing my schedule and prepping, I earned a cold which made the weekend a rough one. It was good to play side by side Lodge members, instead of across the table from one another, and some great sessions were had.
I ran into a lot of weird rules issues, some of which I learned something on, but several of which I verified my interpretation was correct and PC's were dying or almost dying as a result of the misinterpretation... That's frustrating.
We should try to compile a wiki that details known errata and adjudications on tough questions. I know there are official FAQ's but I think the lodge could stand to put something together for ease of use.

I like the way this is going. We as a lodge ARE full of rules lawyers, both figuratively and literally.
