I have someone on the hook who wants to GM, but would rather GM one of the Pathfinder Society-sanctioned Modules. Anybody got one of them laying around that they could bring by for Saturday, thereby upping our tables o' gaming goodness to 3?

-Dink

PS. Start molding their brains young, that's what I always say.

PPS. mmmm....moldy brains.....

We are a good Pathfinder Society Law-Abiding Lodge; if you've already played in all the scenarios offered at a specific PFS Lodge meeting, maybe you'd think about RUNNING a scenario?

Hmmm?

You CAN get GM credit for running the scenario that you've already played.

Just an idea.

Always looking for more GMs,
Dink

Well played, Dink! I see it worked too.

Jake, I hope it didn't look like I was calling you out. In person it often ain't easy to point out rules without looking like I'm challenging someone. Online, it's even more difficult.

I don't think we've met yet, but from reading your posts, you look like someone who knows his stuff. When I posted, I expected you knew that a replay wouldn't be for credit. It's just I felt the need to speak up for the benefit of others who might not have picked up on that.

I don't have any modules lying about, but We Be Goblins and Master of the Fallen Fortress are both Pathfinder Society sanctioned modules, and free to download.

At sixteen pages they are also, I believe, short enough to be run in a single session, which most, maybe all, of the other sanctioned modules are not.

No offense taken, the PFS group in Asheville is growing and the players that have played through many of the modules need to step aside and give others a chance to experience some great scenarios. I believe I am the player with the most Chronicle sheets (19+) under my belt in the Lodge so it is time I start sitting on the other side of the table and run some.

I have been saying that I need to GM and I just got my copy of the Bestiary in the mail this week and I have been collecting DM stuff over the years...

I can be ready by Sat to run ether "We Be Goblins" or "Intro I: In Service To Lore" one obstacle I have to overcome is that my printer has no ink and I have no time to run out and get more... but I think I can get a copy of the handouts printed out by a friend...

Ok, I have no idea what table I'll be sitting at this Saturday, but I'll be there.

Now about GMing... I've been dodging GMing for three reasons:

1) I don't have a mat for maps. This is a lame excuse, but I would like to have at least one map drawn out in advance. I'm working on overcoming this. At the moment, I'm unusually poor, but I'll get some mats from Chessex as soon as I can.

2) Also, I have zero miniatures. None. That's another issue I need to tackle.

3) How do you go about choosing a module to run? I currently have none and I really have no idea where to start. I know how to get them, but I am not sure how to choose. How do you approach this? What criteria do you guys use to choose the module you're going to GM?

Help me out here guys and I'll get off my ass and start GMing.

For example, I am tempted to start with Season 0 first scenario and go step by step from there. But I've heard that seasons before season 3 are hard to run and you have to change a lot of details. Maybe I should just ask for requests from you guys as far as what tier we should be playing and choose something from there...

Liberty's Edge

Jake, I only have a black and white printer, and I don't know yet if I'm gonna be able to make this Saturday or not.

If Saturday mid-morning rolls around and you still haven't worked out a way to get the printouts you need, let me know either here in the thread or via PM. Even if I can't stay to game, I might be able to drop you the printouts at the start of the session.

Generally you want to GM a Module you have played. But there are a few free ones to choose from. All of the "Intro" mods are free as well as "We Be Goblins" and a few others, also you can borrow a mod from a fellow GM, there is no point in us having more then one copy of a mod in the same Lodge but if you love running the mod go ahead and buy it.

I have a hard copy of "We Be Goblins" and I now there is at least one other owned by a member of the lodge. Dink and Zylph both have a few mods and I plan on also buying and printing a few. It won't be long before we have a library built up that we can all use to run games. and don't worry about minis Zylph has a huge collection and I have a few that you can borrow.

Edric: Thanks for the offer, I have someone in mind that I think should be able to, but if it falls through I'll be sure to take ya up on it. :)

As to scenarios to look out for, season 0 is the only one that needs major conversion effort as it was still on the 3.5 ruleset.

I've been looking for low level scenarios currently, since most folks have low level characters. These scenarios will be good for a good bit as they all have a decent tier range.

------------------

For minis, I have a small collection ... OK, not quite small, but not overly huge (I can carry it all at once after all ... with a little effort). Two weeks ago I had Dink and StrangePackages send me a list of what they needed and I pulled those minis (or semi-decent substitutes for those things I did not have).

I have no problem do so for a two or three table night, so folks who are running stuff, shoot me an email (address in profile) and I can pull what is needed. Keep in mind this would be for every two weeks (when I am able to be there ... the other Saturdays I am gaming with the group I have been playing with for the last 2-3 years).

Liberty's Edge

Jake,

Sounds good. I'll keep an eye out then. If I don't see anything from you by about 2pm on Saturday, I'll figure you've got it covered. Don't panic if you post early on Saturday and don't hear from me til mid-day. I'm not a morning person. :-)

Silver Crusade 5/5

Aravandor

I have a slew of metal mini's and about a dozen plastic coming in the mail (for our homebrew game), about 100 dice, and 2 game mats. Email me and I am always ready to back you as a GM.

I myself will be staying on the player side of the table for a good while more. Until I've run a dozen times or so. This style of gaming is sooo different from homebrew gaming. I want to be an expert player at this style before I try tackling a scenario from the other side of the table.

Pacing seems to be the real challenge... in homebrew when you run out of time you just pause and say "we'll pick up here next time" in this we HAVE to finish and keep people focused and moving has to be a challenge.

Peace,
Luth

The Pathfinder Beginner Box can actually solve these issues pretty effectively. While not free, it does kill two birds with one stone - comes with a flipmat, one side blank, one side with the cave for the included adventure (which is *really* fun, but not PFS sanctioned) and sheets of cardboard standup minis of heroes and common monsters. Might be worth a look.

ALSO: There is a kickstarter going on now for those who are miniature-challenged (myself included). This guy has run successful kickstarters before, and he's launching this one of plastic monster standins, that are cost effective, portable, and can be written on for conditions or effects. I may be able to play. I got a shiny new Aasimar that I want to try out- she's gonna be ****ing cool, so try not to let her die, guys.

Of course I also have Buliwyf and Thildae in case either are needed.

Hrmmm... I have now a Fighter, A Cleric, a Mage... I guess I need a Rogue and I'll have the basics all covered!

I call dibs on killing that character!

At SCARAB we have talked about that for weeks - that the first person that drew that boon didn't want it! There are people on these boards that would pay lots of money to get that boon! I hope you really enjoy that character ... until I get to kill it that is.

Silver Crusade 5/5

Wow 3 groups maybe more is awesome.... will we have enough room?

Liberty's Edge 2/5

Didn't want it? Whoa. That's all kinds of crazy and dumb.

Laurel is gonna be famous by the time I get done with her. Mostly cleric, a few dips into Bard, and she's gonna be one HECK (or Heaven) of a support character.

She's just going to be comically easy to hit- so thank god for reach weapons.

She was born to be awesome. I nearly made her a paladin, but she lends herself so nicely to Cleric that I had to do something else.

Scarab Sages 1/5

Yeah man! That sounds like a good build! I'm currently monkeying with a half-elf cleric/monk of Nethys, magic and protection domains. Should be cool.

Grand Lodge 5/5 * Venture-Captain, New Zealand—Dunedin

I'm waiting on the Race Guide to be released so I can work on a monkey cleric/monk of Nethys.

(ba dum ching)

And Luthril, if we have too many tables for World Cafe, gosh! I guess we're gonna have to find a new place to game...

Hey Thorynn, could you get behind the Brotherhood Of Nocturnal Esteemed Roleplayers (BONER)?

If we are looking at 3 tables tomorrow, we do need a different venue.

That said, I stopped off at Hillside Games on my way home and if we want to game there tomorrow, they said space should not be an issue.

I know it's last minute, but what do y'all think?

Scarab Sages

How's everyone!

I vote for Hillside!

1) Plenty of free parking,
2) Plenty of room to spread out, large tables and plenty of chairs,
3) Lots of Gaming supplies, if you need something he has it!
4) Chinese restaurant next door,
5) And the most important, we will be supporting a gaming store. Nate is a really cool guy. He has supported me when I ran my game.

John

Silver Crusade 5/5

Only open til 9pm at Hillside? and they have a Magic event starting at 7pm too.... I'll go where ever majority votes for, but my vote is for World Coffee as crazy as that sounds.

They did say they were open "late" on Fridays and Saturdays when I speak with them this evening. I told them we start at the 530-6pm range and they said it was not a problem (though there may be a bit noisier than the coffee shop ... which means we would not get called out for "being disruptive" ;) ).

EDIT: The 7pm Magic event is tonight, tomorrow is a sealed deck at 1pm.

Liberty's Edge

So, we still go room for me tomorrow, even with all the insane amounts of people showing up?

Oh, and I would be willing to GM some time if one of the regular GMs feels like giving me all their GMing stuff while they play a character, heh. I'm spending more than I should just making it out there every couple weeks <_<

Liberty's Edge

Question: if we move to Hillside for tomorrow, can we get the word out in time?

If the answer is "yes" then I say "heck yeah" for Hillside.

If not, but we still wanna move to Hillside, I have an idea, but it involves me volunteering to do something I'm yet sure I'm willing to volunteer to do.

Namely, sitting in the back room of World Coffee until about 6:30, drinking ginger ale and redirecting anyone who shows up at World Coffee over to Hillside.

Liberty's Edge 2/5

If we can do Hillside, I am all for it.

Maybe we can even convince a couple Cardies to give us a whirl!

HILLSIDE is my vote. And we can get the word out.

We need an emailing list!

I'll let the Asheville area yahoo gamers thing know.

Still kicking off around 6?

I thought that this site was the gospel of the "Ashevillians". I mean seriously aren't 90% of us on this forum?

I'm cool with hillside as long as none of those "cardies" sit too close or touch my dice. Those people are strange...

Ah well, it was worth a shot.

Got hold of dinketry, Jake and Stu. They are all up for Hillside. Also sent an e-mail to Thorynn at the email addy on the Contact me page. This just leaves Eaghen (and Thorynn until we hear back) on the not contacted yet list.

Edric, if you could hang out at WC until 6pm, we will hold starting whichever scenario you want to play in until you get to Hillside.

Liberty's Edge

Actually, chances are I'm not playing tomorrow night anyway. I won't know for sure until tomorrow. Definitely don't hold up starting on my account.

Not playing probably wouldn't impact my ability to hang out at World Coffee and redirect folks to Hillside though.

Sorry for the uncertainty. I should know by late afternoon tomorrow.

Zylphryx, e-mail has been sent.

Hey Goon, based on Zylphryx's count above, it looks like there should be plenty of room for you. Though I have a nagging feeling there are people who have turned up before who haven't posted here.

Scarab Sages

My suggestion for our group name.

What we call ourselves as a group is important. Our name should reflect who we are and also reflect that we are sincere and worth of membership.

The most famous or infamous organizations have a three letters abbreviation,

For example:

F.B.I C.I.A. K.G.B. P.L.O I.R.A.

With this if mind, I propose the following as our group name,

A.P.G.

which stands for the Asheville Pathfinders Group.

I’m a member of the A.P.G.

The name does sounds cool and important.

John

ps are we going to get t-shirts?
