I vote Option 6.

Grand Lodge 5/5 * Venture-Captain, New Zealand—Dunedin

502 posts, people!!! 502!!!!! This thread keeps going and going....

Sovereign Court

OK, as to the voting goes, I like the concept of #6 for use on a website, but I think a script font would be better suited (more fitting the concept of the explorer taking notes, etc).

#12 is also nice, though if the rose could be rotated 90 degrees clockwise so it has W and N showing, I think it would be a better representation (we are in WNC after all). I'm not sure how it would work as far as an online logo though (depends on the overall look of the site, of course, but it would be geared more to a clean, segmented layout rather than something more 'artistic' in design).

If we're looking at using it for shirts, cards and as an online logo, we really need one design (or two designs that are linked in their appearance) to maintain a continuity through the various mediums.

Sovereign Court

and, for more on topic as to the main goal of the APL, who is running what Saturday after next? I would like to get in a session as a player that week if possible (3rd level Rogue needs some play time).

If we are short on GMs, I could run something, of course. I just need to figure out what that would be. ;)

The Exchange 2/5

#12 for shirts, #6 for web related.

Silver Crusade 5/5

When we have a website(I assume it's coming cause I keep hearing references), this thread will probably die and a new one will be born there...

Waits patiently...

Dain if we are DM deficient I can always step up to the bat, as much as I would rather not. I only have one game credit on one character so far because of my 2 nights of death. But all that aside I really respect the effort you put forth and I got your back if you want to play.

It looks like the 3rd will be a low attendance session because of another convention so lack of players may mean its a mute point.

ROLL CALL for the 3rd...

Bringing my summoner to play in Dinks group for that last of three in a chain, or alternately my DM hat for Dain.(you DMs would need to point me at a module I could run for Dain et al)

WHO ELSE IS COMING?

Peace,
Luth

Dark Archive 2/5

I liked all of the designs and I will be there on the third the funds are not going to be there it looks like for a con right now.

I would also love to get in this game Dink's game mean if he is running it not that you are a bad GM or anything I really liked that story arch

The Exchange 2/5

Count my wizard in for a level 3 game. If not I've got a couple level 1s I can play.

I'm definitely in for the third wherever it will be at. I can play a rogue 4 or any 1st level class needed.

Silver Crusade 4/5

So who is going to StellarCon? I am the only one to sign up for PFS so-far.

I preregistered because Stu said he was going, now I'm stuck going and don't know who will be there. I know Del will be there so that's 1 person I know... but I feel it dosen't look like the best con for PFS.

Liberty's Edge 2/5

Meet new people! That's the joy of the Con!

Also, I may or may not be there. I can't say as yet. That's the joy of PFS- show up if you can.

I had a great time last night with that bunch of ****ing liars who told me they usually end at midnight. Getting to bed at 1:45 on a work night was AWESOME.

Jerks.

At least no one died in jail.

Well at least you were having fun and not working (which is what I was doing up until ~130am) ;p

Silver Crusade 5/5

So far it looks like less than 2 groups so we all could run the last of Dinks chain Dain included.

I thought I was, but I don't think I am anymore. I'd rather go to a con that was more RPG focused. Maybe MACE west in Hickory? Nope, I'm gonna be out of town for that one. That looks like the next good one, tho.

Apologies for the game running late last night. Hope you guys had as much fun as I did. Turns out Dink has a killer Mwangi accent! Who knew?!

Also, if you ever have the pleasure of adventuring with Danaris Redfeather, prepare to be covered in the gore of your enemies as he explodes them with his musket crits.

I am certain that both GMs will be very busy. Last year I had to turn away players and I expect to have the same problem this year. Getting Gms to this one is difficult since it really is NOT a gaming convention. I have room for 3 more GMs .... Bueller .... Bueller .... Bueller ....

Liberty's Edge

My official vote is:
Thorynn's design.

My unofficial vote is:
Kittens.
(It works great for YouTube, why not us too?)

Too soon to say whether I'll be there on March 3rd or not. Depends on how this cold progresses and whether the trees' yearly attempt to murder me starts up by then.

Silver Crusade

Awfully quiet on here the last couple days. Let me stir the pot a little mwahaha.

I have created a number of test characters since I became involved in PFS (wow...like 6 weeks now...I'm becoming a veteran!), toying around with concepts, different classes, ranged vs. melee vs. caster and various combinations thereof. It seems I keep gravitating towards builds with one or two really high stats and a bunch of really low stats, which is a nice way of saying min-maxed. I have read a fair bit across these forums about min-maxed characters, and not surprisingly, there are widely divergent viewpoints on the goodness/badness of them.

(throws the giant flask of alchemist's fire over the fence) What do ya'll think?

Sovereign Court

On minmaxed characters, I personally think if it is done to help develop a concept as opposed to trying to be all munchkin, then it's fine. For example, if you want to create a Tick-like fighter (low Int and Wis, high Str and Con) and role play it as such, more power to you. If you build a similar build but don't play up the shortcomings you built into the character then not so much.

This is, of course, IMO, and has no weight anywhere but in my own character creation endeavors.

Bottom line is, design the character you want to play. If it is a minmax character, that's fine if it is what you want to play.

I'm with Zylph on this, if it fits the character I'm totally for it. You can see it in some of the most memorable characters like Skiven he hits like a brick and stands as firm as one but he is stu-ped and has absolutely no charasmatic appeal.

But that is the character, he likes to hit stuff and break it, just be ready to tell him weather or not it's a good idea to do so. It's a blast to play but sometimes it is just as fun to play a well rounded character like Kalill or Exalebar.

Build the character how your going to play it not just to make the math work better. And play the stats, don't expect to be the face of the group with a 7 CHA it just isn't that characters role.

My opinion not my argument :),
Jake

How many characters have you adventured with who are horribly disfigured or professionally odious? If I had a dime for every strength-heavy sociopathic dwarf I've shared a game with, then I'd probably have $20. I'd be rich.

I usually frown on min/maxing because very, very few people actually play out the disadvantage of it convincingly. It's easy to take a 7 in Charisma and then just say "Well, he's ugly. His face is terribly scarred. He's rude." That's what a lot of people do. Whenever I hear "The left side of John Doe's face is burned..." I sigh internally and think "Charisma dump."

When I make characters, I prefer to start with a Clark Kent. All tens and I have 20 points to slice up. Typically, I like to slice those a few different ways.

A) 2 16's, 4 10's
B) 2 14's, 2 13's, 2 12's
C) 3 14's, 2 12's, 1 11
D) 1 18, 1 12, 1 11, 3 10's

With any of the above point distributions you get a character with one or many strengths and no negative modifiers. Depending on your race, you may be able to add 2 extra points to one of the attributes after that. I don't think you need to have a hunched back or the wisdom of a slug to make heroic characters in pathfinder. I try not to dump attributes unless I have a compelling reason to in terms of character concept. Unless I really want to play the goliath strength stable-boy who got kicked in the head by a horse when he was young, I will have at least a 10 in intelligence. Likewise, unless my character has a powerful superstition against bathing and urinates on people as a greeting custom due to his native culture, he'll have a charisma of 10 or more. (And he could be a generally likeable person with a charisma of 12 who still has a horribly annoying and disgusting habit of pissing on people.)

Like anything else I ever say, the preceeding is absolute, objective truth. I do realize that some may have difficulty identifying it as such, so I promise to be patient and understanding those unfortunate few.

Scarab Sages 1/5

I'm certainly guilty of min/maxing, but I think a character without a weak point isn't a character at all. I think any PC should have a statistical kryptonite, as well as something they are awesome at. Take Wintalas for example. Awesome in social situations (18 CHA), can occasionally land an arrow on target (DEX 14), but sometimes may get in a situation he can't talk himself out of, and probably shouldn't have opened his big mouth (WIS 8). So yeah, make the numbers represent the character, and most of all, play who you want to play!

On another note, do we have enough 3rd level PCs for a 3rd level table? I could run 3-2 Sewer Dragons of Absalom if we've got enough. I'll need some help with minis tho...

LOL...Priceless!

Liberty's Edge 2/5

I'll need a few more games (1 or 2, I think) for Buliwyf to get him to 3rd.

Scarab Sages 1/5

If we don't have enough for a 3rd level table, I could run 3-07 Echoes of the Overwatched to give our regular GMs a break. But if those regular GMs could bring minis, that would be rad.

PS - My other character *is* horribly burned (CHA 7) but it actually does play into his character as he is a monk/cleric of Nethys, who's holy symbol is a mask. MAKE IT WORK! :)

Silver Crusade

Thorynn wrote:

I have a 3rd level Wiz I could run, but right now I'm not sure I'll be able to make the 3rd...really want to but it looks like I have to go to Singapore for a couple weeks, departure date not definite. Right now it is a tossup between early morning the 4th or the 11th. If I have to go on the 4th, I'll probably not make it to PFS on the 3rd because I don't want to precede such a trip with only 3-4 hours of sleep. I should know by Wednesday one way or the other.

Dark Archive 2/5

Also to add to the discussion it is usually more fun in the long run to play a well balanced character than a minmax one, though playing a brick with a 20 strength or a well rounded know it all with a 7 strength is fun in it's own right.

I usually try to create a character idea, and then use stats to make certain they have snowball's chance in hell of not getting killed.

Speaking of sociopathic stout dwarves, Vlardheim is 3rd level, ifr needed.

-Dink

Sovereign Court

I should be able to attend the 3rd. :)

Sovereign Court

Oo, oo! I have a 3rd level character!! Abra Duchess Sarina van Hoek, Rogue extraordinaire.

Silver Crusade 5/5

So it looks like this week has turned in to "everyone playing a 3rd level character night" Should I sit the 3rd out?

Again I said I'd DM if there was no one else and Dain needed a DM, but thats a last ditch thing.

Let me know if it's level 3 night so I can make other plans

I thought Dink was running the last in that asian chain...

Scarab Sages 1/5

I can bring both scenarios, and if we don't have enough 3rd level guys, I'll run the other one. I just figured the regular GMs have probably racked up some serious XP running all these games for us!

Well aside from one session (which was applied to Sarina), the others were applied to Rimeskal the Anonymous, a human wizard who will not see actual play until I get him up to level 12 (and maybe not even then ... I may just have him level up to retirement without ever being written up) ... he is currently 2nd level, but like I said ... ;)

I do have several other scenarios I have not yet run, but eventually I do need to get in some game time (I would like to get Sarina up at least one more level before Paizocon). I'll print one up this weekend (will post which one when I figure it out) and bring it if needed.

Silver Crusade 5/5

Ok, Before I buy this scenario... who has run Sewer Dragons of Absalom from Season 3? Mostly looking at Dain and Dink :)...

I'll buy it and print it and memorize it by next Saturday if I get good response.

I'd rather play, but I offered and Dain and Dink have earned it.

Grins,
Luth

Scarab Sages 1/5

Thats the 3rd level one I've got and was talking about running, but it doesn't sound like we've got enough 3rd level dudes yet.

Silver Crusade 5/5

Ahhh.... want to grant my Summoner 3rd level :)))) I'll help!

I saw Aravandor, Dink, Dain... ooo Ok so thats just 3 peeps at 3rd level

Dain buddy you may be out of luck for 3rd level...

I'm down to play or run the 1st level scenario of the GMs choice

So no games this weekend? If anyone is up for one, let me know. I'll run sewer dragons Luth. I'm also ready to run a lvl1 cleric whenever.

Thorynn: I forgive you for your Charisma dumping self mutilation. It's certainly possible that I should climb off my soap box and let folks play the game however they like without my snooty comments. I think we should still be friends and just blame Eaghen for this. He was clearly trying to expose me as an anti-minmax zealot.

Grand Lodge 5/5 * Venture-Captain, New Zealand—Dunedin

I'm planning on running the 3rd part of the Asian thingy on 3/3, but I'd be down for playing if it's possible. If not, c'est la vie.

Aravandor, stay strong, man.

Oh sure...just blame the noob.

In case anyone was wondering why I'd need to go to Singapore, it is because I'm a CIA operative investigating reports of a terrorist cell in the asheville area trying to recruit new members under the guise of innocent-seeming flyers posted in local gaming stores, coffee shops and colleges. My investigation is nearly complete and indictments are pending

Uhhh... nah, man. We're cool. Could you tell the black helicopters to stop circling my house?!

So yeah, I guess I jumped the gun on the 3rd level thing. Wintalas just hit 3, so I just wanted to see who else was in the neighborhood. I'll prepare to run 3-07 Echoes of the Overwatched. Because nobody can get enough of the Blackros Museum, right? Right? Oh Drendle Drang, you're such a sucker for the Blackroses!

Maybe a 3rd level run this weekend, if folks are interested? I have a 3rd level wiz I ran at ConNooga...wouldn't mind playing him again. Of course, easy for me to suggest when I'm not doing the GMing...

The Exchange 2/5

I'd be up for a game this weekend, if anyone is running one.

I'm all for a game this weekend. Actually Bekra is now lvl 5 so I think he is out for a lvl 3 game. I can play up a lvl 1 anything though.

Sovereign Court

Well, I may have a couple additional folks showing up next weekend ... We might actually get up to the 3 table mark next weekend as well.

Liberty's Edge

Here's my suggestion for March 3rd.

1. Thorynn GMs a "mid-level" table, with Aravandor, Dink, QC, and Zylph playing. Aravandor would likely have to play down with his 5th level character. If he's not willing to do that, Thorynn has the option to run with 3 players and a pregen, an option many people seem to enjoy.

2. Luth GMs a low-level table, and figures on it probably being a full one unless someone else GMs too.

3. If one or more of the other GMs (besides Dink or Zylph) wants to prepare a low-level scenario, that would be wise.

Dink could then GM part 3 of his trilogy at a later date.

I hope this is workable, because March 4th is GM's Day. Seems fitting to me to show appreciation for the folks who GM the most by letting them play for a change.

Silver Crusade 5/5

I'll pick a level 1 and buy it print it and memorize it by next Saturday no problem.

Yeah! Good call! I'm up for running either a 1-2 or a 3-4, I'd just hate to prep 3-02 then not have enough 3rd level dudes. Good call on the pregen tho. Happy GMs day!!!
