Ok question like A D.A., i should have leveled up my PC but played an Awesome We be Goblin. So that means i cant play any of the scenario Cause there all level 2 or higher whats up with that lol. So what do I do when that happens lol.

I'm not entirely sure what you're asking, but I don't think the games on 15 Sept. are tiered for level two only. You could also try to make it over to the Deck Box at the Flea Market on 4 Sept., or keep an eye out for someone running a midweek game at the Wyvern's Tale.

Grand Lodge 5/5 * Venture-Captain, New Zealand—Dunedin

Baileyone, if you need help leveling up your character, you can come by the DeckBox for some fun this coming Tuesday at 530PM, or you can come by the Wyvern's Tale this coming weekend. Any lower tier adventure should be able to be played by a level 1-5 player, with the exception of the Intro Steps series. If you need, you can make a new character for the Intro Steps if you'd like.

This is our WarHorn page, and it lists 3 GMs:

(You'll probably have to make an account and log in to see the names.)

Unfortunately I can't go, as that's too far out of bus range, but I hope you all have a great time! :)

Silver Crusade 5/5

Hey kiddos,

On the road coming back from DragonCon. Had a great time, got a level for my paladin, and gain a lot of perspective on the extraordinary quality of our lodge. Having gamed with folks from around the country, with out taking anything from them, I can honestly say we have the best group of GMs around. All of you players should count your lucky stars, and pat yourselves on the back while you are at it cause you are a top shelf bunch yourselves.

See ya on the fifteenth if not before,
Luth out....

Grand Lodge 5/5 * Venture-Captain, New Zealand—Dunedin

Aw shucks, Luth. You're part of this illustrious GM group, too.

Eric the Grey, see you tomorrow at The Deck Box around 530pm!

Happy Day of Labor Shirking!

Anyone interested in playing any part of Quest For
Perfection on Wednesday?

Dark Archive 3/5

If not, I could run something else at WT then.

Have we NO brave souls for the Carrion Hill module?

For shame. FOR shame.

Oh you may, you may ... it is still early yet.

But as Zylph said it is still early...

Silver Crusade 5/5

Strange,

I'd love to play it, but I'm only available for the afternoon slot and I am already signed up to GM...

Hopefully in the future!

I'm still hoping to finish the Shades of Ice series with part 3. I don't know what level range QfP is, but my next character is a 2nd level wizard. Probably not a good idea to take him into a meatgrinder scenario without a reasonably strong and balanced group. At least he has Featherfall, though... part of the reason I made him an air elementalist was because of what I heard happened to Goon.

StrangePackage wrote:

The name sounds fun, like something my undead-hunting ranger might investigate, but he's in Dain's module series and I'm interested to see where that goes. :)

"without a reasonably strong and balanced group"

Along these lines... are there any missing gaps that need to be filled in for the PC roles with the current group of society players? My current play style on my bard is support with damage on the side, no specific healing. I have been building some other characters, specifically trying to find a healer class that I like the style of, although trying to come up with a non-divine class is not so easy as I thought. Currently working on a Hedge Witch.

Any thoughts? I'd be happy to adventure on a specific type of character if it would help balance out the available pool.

Cheers,

Chris

Dear Alcons (Chris),

Pathfinder Society Organized play allows people to create multiple different characters that they can game with at any given time in a number of different scenarios of differing levels and tiers. Provided that a character meets level requirements, you can bring any of a number of different characters into a number of different scenarios.

That being said, there are no characters that our Society pool needs at this time, but I encourage you to make your Hedge Witch, provided that it's made with respect to Pathfinder Organized Play rules (the link will take you to that free download). Or you can read it in a different form here. And then come on out and roll some dice with us - new players (we call them Greenies) are always welcome! We try to "roll out" the red carpet for Greenies! (*ba dum ching*)

Come on out to any of our Asheville Pathfinder Lodge (APL) sessions to meet the good folks of the Lodge! We're having one such meeting tonite at the Deck Box in Fletcher! And that's a good reminder for all the rest of y'all if you'd like to come on out.....6PM start.

Catch you around, Alcons!

What Paul said, but also I have never heard anybody complain when there is a healer at the table, of any stripe.

Things you will never hear at a PFS table: "What? This table has WAY too many healers."

There's a lot to be said for 'preventative healing' though - battlefield control that results in less damage taken. Even a fighter can do that, with feats like Dirty Trick.

If you're going the 'reactive' healing route, try to get your defences strong enough to get close and provide flanking and Aid Another checks in combat.
I'm not sure what a Hedge Witch trades in, but Misfortune and Evil Eye are nice Hexes from a 'preventative healing' perspective, along with the feat to get an extra hex and choosing Cackle with the extra slot it gives you.

Thorynn...congrats on the GM star. Well-earned!

Shadow Lodge 3/5

I was trying to get my alias' aligned but it didn't work. I was previously posting as enaudible but thought I'd switch it to my character name... so its enaudible/Alcons/Chris...

Righto with regards to character choices. I've sat down at tables where I should have known better going in and barely made it out alive on the other end, due to group composition. Regardless, the wise choice is to have a healer in my pocket... I like the melee healer idea, but options as they are I just may have to grit my teeth and play a divine healer to do so.

The hedge witch trades a 4th level hex for spontaneous healing, and also the 8th level hex in order to treat poisons and diseases.

Could someone explain how heal checks work? Is there a useful way this is implemented in combat or only out of combat? I was noticing you could boost your heal skill to +12 at 1st level but didn't really see the benefit of that for reactive healing.

I made it out to the Goblin Moon session which was fun. It was good to meet some peoples and I look forward to more adventures.

Cheers

Dear Enaudible,

This post will likely answer most of your questions regarding the Heal skill. I believe it definitely has some use, both in and out of combat. Take a look at let me know if you have any follow-up questions.

-Dink

Sovereign Court

Heal check summary in regards to what you would most likely use it for in PFS, going most likely to least likely:
(1) DC 15 to stabilize a dying PC or NPC
(2) DC 20 (requiring 2 uses from a Healer's Kit or DC increases by 2 per/use you do not have) to restore 1 HP/level of target (+ your Wis modifier if you get 25 or more on your roll, assuming you have the two uses of a Healer's Kit, otherwise 27 or 29 would be required)
(3) DC varies to grant a +4 circumstance bonus vs poison (you need to exceed the poison's DC to succeed)
(4) DC varies to grant a +4 circumstance bonus vs disease (same as per poison)
(5) DC 15 to remove the movement penalty from damage caused by caltrops/spike growth and the like
(6) DC 15 to double the heal rate from 8 hours of rest (not going to happen in most scenarios, but can happen in some).

Shadow Lodge 3/5

I guess the follow up question is:

Do you think it would be worth going to +12 Heal at level 1 at the expense of other potential feats, traits, etc.?

Other request - suggestions for a non-divine healer class?

Also, I think my favorite part of Goblin Moon was stuffing Jake's goblin body into a doorway as spider bait...

Sovereign Court

well, I would have to answer that with "it depends on what kind of build you are wanting to make". Basically, would you lock yourself into the role of one trick pony running that route, at least for the short term?

If you are wanting to not be the divine healer, then yeah, I would say run with bard, boost your Heal skill, don't pick heal spells, but carry and Healer's Kit and be willing to use CLW wands that people hand you.

If you really want to get crazy with the non-divine (even potentially non spellcasting) healer, you could go martial class or rogue, keep the Heal skill maxed, pick a trait that makes it a class skill and keep yourself stocked with healer's kits and the various alchemical compounds that tie in with healing (antiplague, antitoxin, bloodblock, meditation tea, padzahr, smelling salts, soul stimulant, twitch tonic, vermin repellent and wismuth salix). It would not be cheap, but could be an entertaining build.

And yes, that was one innovative use for a smashed goblin. ;)

If you did max out the Heal skill like that, it could help to do a bit of that minor patch up work between combats that's too small to burn a spell on, but still presents more risk than topping people off. It will be a reoccurring gold cost, but you can defray that to some degree by taking the Prestige Point award that lets you use Heal for Day Job checks.

Pathfinder Society Field Guide:
"Temple (4 PP): Regardless of your class...
You can use Heal to make Day Job rolls. Once per game
session... you can have a cleric cast either cure moderate
wounds or lesser restoration on yourself or one of your
allies, free of charge. You must visit the temple to receive
this attention."

That's the PP from your first two sessions, but after that your Heal skill may pay for much of its own supplies. Before that point, you could just make your DJ check on some Craft or Performance skill, since those can be used untrained. If the skill isn't paying for itself often enough, you could also ask people to buy healer's kits of their own which you then use on them, just like they may carry a CLW wand they can't use effectively.

Shadow Lodge 3/5

Thanks for the tips. I was playing with a Monk of the Healing Hand build which would work well with what you described. Trying to work out which build would offer the most fun for my personal taste. I don't mind a short-term limitation for a longer term gain. Back to the books!

I can go ahead with one part of QFP tomorrow at WT at 12:30.
QFP is a tier 1 - 5.

What is it about clerics that bothers you? Myself, I don't mind a support role at all, but I tend to dislike the 'flavour text' of the class. Rangers, Druids, and even Oracles tone that down to varying degrees, but depending on archetypes, domains (and other build options) and roleplay, you could make a character that's mechanically a cleric without the annoying bits. I'm currently working on a Varisian 'cleric' that's more about the discovery and chance of the open road rather than all the righteous-hypocrite, judgementally-nagging, proselytizing baggage.

Dark Archive 3/5

Ok, I've got the game listed on the paizo website for tomorrow. It is listed as QFP part 3, but I can do parts 1 or 2 if needed.

I will be setting up the scenarios later, but have this Saturday off, so will be at WT running something, I am looking to hear from people who want to play Saturday to see what I should prepare, I have the first two scenarios of season 4, and am willing to pick up another scenario to run if I hear of a preference that people want to play.

Well, as I've mentioned, part 3 of Shades of Ice would be cool. (NPI)

Question, Gunslinger ammunition... I am a little out of the know for purchasing it. What is the adjustment as a gunslinger? Any information and/or help (Which I know I will get a plethora of ;-) ) would be much appreciated. I believe I have done it wrong. Thanks!

The Gunsmithing feat lets you buy bullets, pellets, and powder at 10% of their price in Ultimate Combat. If you also have 1 rank in Craft [Alchemy], you can buy the alchemical cartridges at 50% of their listed price.

(Metal cartridges and the advanced firearms that fire them are not PFS legal.)

With the Gunsmithing & Alchemy discounts, a standard bullet (or handful of pellets) and the powder to fire it will cost you 1.1 gold, and the paper cartridge (which speeds your loading by one step) will cost you 6 gold.

(Something weird I noticed with the gunslinger pregen is that she has 30 bullets but only 10 doses of black powder. I've been told that is because bullets are only sold in batches of 30, but this is not the case; they're also on the list individually. It's apparently just another case of the pregens having build mistakes.)

Shadow Lodge 2/5

I'm looking for players to Alpha test a campaign setting, I have one person already. The Campaign is set in my world of Aerth, in the country of Victhoria. This adventure mixes sword and sorcery with Sherlock Holmes. The PC’s are sent on an adventure with plot turns and twists, murder, mystery, inconceivable horror; and a crafty, insane, and shady antagonist named Mycros.
Victhoria is the leader of all scientific and technological advancements in Aerth. The country is heavily based on late 1800's Britain and steampunk. I designed it to be for 4-6 players. Instead of module based like the PFS adventures its more of a homebrew-style game and is divided into Chapters of two quests. It's ready to run the prologue and Chapter 1. I already have one player, so 3-5 more. I would be happy to run it this Saturday at The Wyvren's Tale. Bring a Lvl One Character made with PFS Character Creation rules, and I will be using a normal XP track, not the 3 XP/per level like in Society Play.

Shadow Lodge 3/5

The fact they are "clerics" bothers me... I'm not an atheist, but am also not into role playing a character with deity worshiping as a primary element of the back story or character build. It would perpetually annoy me. Regardless of how you twist it, even with the Separatist archetype, they still are into the deity thing. This is my own quirk I am working around...

I like the witch idea for the same reason I don't like the cleric, along with being a big fan of Terry Pratchett's Wee Free Men Series, so I think I may commit on the witch front and try to shape something that does more than stand around waiting to heal.

I messed with an oracle healer build but it didn't feel right, and the same with a druid but was surprised at the lack of specific healing options.

Dark Archive 3/5

If you go with wizard, then take levels in the Magaambyan arcanist, you can get cure spells as arcane spells. This is in the Paths Of Prestige book.

I used to have a roommate that didn't want to play clerics or characters that worshipped other gods because of a sense of religious impropriety. I posed to him, "Is God stupid or all knowing? Do actors who play villains go to hell? Or is it more likely that God takes this as exactly what it is. Face value: having fun"

While your motivations are different, I'd say that you still need to take it at face value and have fun with it or don't. I play Karak the Tall, an unwise Shattneresque halfling paladin who can barely recall the name or gender of his deity, so focused is he on killing bad guys. You can minimize the fundamentals and still make it work.

That said, after 27 years of gaming, I've never played a bard. So some classes are just not for some people.

Sovereign Court

In the Jade Regent campaign I am part of I have a cleric of Cayden Cailen called Davin. Most deities would frown upon his means of worship and conversion of those to <brogue>"th' right an' true path, ya buncha heathen sobrietists!"</brogue>

I've probably run a few of those. I like it when I can get the occasional mid day game in, but for such a weird time you need about 4-5 days notice to drum up the crowd. I'll keep my eyes open for future opportunities.
