Silver Crusade 4/5

Go ahead and poach, if it's the only way you can get players to come to your tables that is... :P

Stu and I just talked and he is taking my Intro I slot. I think I'll join that player's choice at 10am... Or We be Goblins! if that table doesn't run.

Sczarni

SP,
Do you run any games at PFS on Saturday's?

That's too bad Jake I was looking forward to seeing how you would run the three sessions.

Silver Crusade 4/5

Varrian Lunari wrote:

I'm still running 2&3 :)

Like strange said you could play his game or another in that slot if u want. We Be Goblins! is another one u can play multiple times with diferent characters.

Silver Crusade 5/5

Has everyone signed up on warhorn.... looks like we'll need to down size...

Grand Lodge 5/5 * Venture-Captain, New Zealand—Dunedin

No need to down-size, Luthril. Part of the joy of a con is seeing who arrives the day of. Lots of people don't sign up beforehand. I went to The Deck Box (Fletcher) yesterday to give some positive PR to GeekOut, and they didn't know about the WarHorn site. Casual observers of the GeekOut site wouldn't know about it, either. Never fear; it's much better to have too many options for people, methinks.

Ya this con is a little diferent then most too it being free and all. Our biggest group will be those that just drop by to see what is going on. If we end up with to few players for a table (I highly doubt it) we can always combine tables. For this event Warhorn is esentualy a place for ppl to lock down a slot.

Sczarni

The more talk that goes on the more excited I get. Looking forward to all the gaming fun.

Question on the Summoner's Eidolon. Its granted 3 natural attacks at first level. Does this mean that if it takes a full round action to attack it can use those three attacks (for instance a quadruped gets or can get with evolution points bite and two claws, can it make a bite attack and also attack with both claws on a full attack action) or that it is just granted three natural attacks.

I am just thrown a little because on that last scenario at PFS my Tiger companion was aloud to attack like such. But if this is the case what is multiattack for? Thanks for the clarification if possible.

Once again always clear as mud! ;-)

3 is the max # of natural attacks an eidolon can have at 1st lvl. You can possibly get more weapons through evolutions but u can still only attack with 3 at that lvl.

Multiattack means secondary attacks incur a -2 penalty instead of the normal -5.

Hope that helps :)

Thanks Jake that helped alot.

One week from GeekOut!!!!

Some notes for the Con for newbies...

1) Bring multiple pencils (mechanicals work best), 2-3 sets of dice, scratch paper, YOUR CHARACTER SHEET, and your Pathfinder ID# (just the number; you don't need the card). If you don't have a PFS number yet, GMs will have them available. You can register your character ahead of time, though, here (it's on the right-hand side of the page). If you need help making a character, try to be at the table you want to be at by 930AM.

2.) Bring your rulebooks, or your iPad with your rulebooks on it. Avoid bringing your laptop (GMs are absolved from this rule). There are only so many power outlets to go around (as well as table space), and your GM needs the outlets (and the table space) so they can follow the scenarios.

3.) Bring snacks, drinks, or whatever you need to power through the day. It will likely be a long one with little break for lunch, etc. Bathroom breaks are different; just get up and go when you feel like you can (note: combat is NOT the time to do this). There may be a group pizza call coordinated to coincide with the break before the evening time slot. Bring some money if you want pizza (small bills work best).

4.) GMs: Attempt to face a wall when you're running your scenario. Your players will be able to hear you better. The hall will be noisy.

5.) Everybody: Take a shower before the con and wear some deodorant. Better yet, bring some with you. BO in a closed space can get FUNKY.

6.) For all the dice-happy people in the group: AVOID tossing your dice in the air, fidgeting with them in your hands, rolling them repeatedly on the board, and losing them under the table. It slows down the game when you have to rummage on the floor to find your dropped die.

7.) If your character dies, they die. Treat it gracefully. No one meant to kill you off; you were not targeted. Of course, you'll have our Venture-Captain (DCII) at the con with us to adjudicate any rules problem or suspected foul play.

8.) Introduce yourself to your table! This is social! It's fun! You might make friends!!!

That's it for now. If anyone else thinks of anything I've missed, feel free to post addenda. Otherwise, I will see all y'all at the Renaissance Hotel at 10AM one week from now.

GMs, we will be having breakfast starting at 830AM at the hotel restaurant. Come if you can (for breakfast or simply a cup of coffee) to plan out the day. I will also be setting up poster-board sign-up sheets for PCs, as well as white board signs for the gaming room to tell people where the games are. Any help with set-up would be greatly appreciated (I'll be doing that at 8AM in and around the game room).

I will be posting any and all updates I have for GeekOut daily on this bulletin board from now until Go-Time. There will be surprises, swag, and super-prizes; I guarantee you that. Oh, and Del and his Crazy Train.

This is going to rock. Thanks to y'all for making the gaming section of GeekOut as strong and colorful as I know it's going to be. Go Golarion!

Any word on the shirts? It'd nice to have them, but I'm not sure if we got the order in on time.

SCARAB will be there with the laser printer for chronicles and character sheets, we'll bring plenty of character creation kits as well for those who want to make characters and Hero Lab for those who want to make new characters or check old ones. We'll have plenty of extras pens, pencils, dice, etc and tons of stuff to win. I even have some boons to give away for GMs and players.

Grand Lodge 5/5 * Venture-Captain, New Zealand—Dunedin

Del, should GMs print out the chronicle sheets for their scenarios beforehand?

Silver Crusade 5/5

I'll have all paperwork printed out beforehand, about 15 sets of dice and a box of pencils... I'll also have a survival reward for those who live through my games.... IF anyone lives... ;)

Sczarni

Is coming to help set up for the GM's only or could you use some others to help set up? I'm game if you need some help. Thanks.

Grand Lodge 5/5 * Venture-Captain, New Zealand—Dunedin

We could always use another helpful hand or two. Consider yourself deputized, Varrian!

Sczarni

Awesome, looking forward to it. Thanks!

Hello from the depths of "too much going on at once". Its great to see all the things happening here :)

T-shirts? Sign me up! I'll take an XL.

Geekout? hmmm...the 12th is my monthly golf tournament, though we should be starting pretty early in the day...headed to Warhorn after this to check out what's shakin and see if I can fit in both golf-out and geek-out.

Welcome Varrion!

And nice to hear from you Dink. Hope things are well.

T-minus 6 Days until GeekOut!!!

The GeekOut website (here) has been updated to include the link to the WarHorn site (here), so now you can view the full slate of games straight from the GeekOut site, along with all the other goings-on!

Personally, I don't recommend venturing out of the Gaming Hall at all on Saturday. Who's to say you're not going to win a prize or six? And you cannot win if you're not there.....

We have not decided yet how we're going to be giving out prizes, but I'm thinking about creating a quiz show entitled "Are You Smarter than a Hellknight?" in which you answer Golarion-based trivia questions in order to win your prizes. We shall see, we shall see.

In other news, welcome back to Sir Eaghen, who recently returned to us from the Dragon Empires (Singapore? Taiwan?) just in time for GeekOut. Here's hoping you get rain on Saturday morning enough to cancel your golf game and you have to spend the morning and noontime gaming with us.

I have posted links for the GeekOut con on the Pen and Paper Games site, Yahoo! groups, EN world, and the Wyvern's Tale FB page. Any further suggestions of where to advertise GeekOut would be gladly accepted.

Speaking of which, we need some local collegiates to wallpaper the UNCA, Warren Wilson, AB Tech, and BRCC campuses with GeekOut paraphernalia (that's hard to spell!). Here's the poster. Grab it, print it, and post it, please!

Lastly, this will be a kid-friendly con. We will be playing all the First Step adventures, and our GMs have promised to hold off eating children for one day (but only Saturday except for the Zombie Prom: don't bring the kids on Friday or go to the ballroom on Saturday night). Grab your nephew/daughter/kid brother/random child off the street and teach them the life-long love (and obsession) that IS role-playing!!!

Ok, enough. Some one else post something. I'm tired.

-Dink

Sczarni

Postin is fun and thanks for the welcome Eaghen!

I'll see if I can post the poster at my work. Might get some hits. I plan on gaming all day and night. It has been a long time since I have had the chance to do that. Look forward to seeing everyone again and meeting all of the new faces. Thank you again to everyone who was so welcoming last weekend.

Scarab Sages 1/5

As long as everything goes according to plan, I should have the shirts by the con. In fact, I should have them by Thursday, but I'm trying not to jinx it. Eaghen, I do have an XL with your name on it, but there will be precious few extras beyond that. If you want one, speak up quick! We'll probably need to get a second order in once people see how awesome the APL crew will look at this con! W00T!

I'm really looking forward to it guys. I hope the rest of the GeekOut is going to be half as fun as the RPG area!

Yes. The printer is available for those who don't, forget them, need a few more, etc

Sczarni

If there is a spare Large shirt I will take one.

On another note, I don't go downtown a lot. Will there be parking at the hotel or is there a parking garage close by? I will be getting there early to help set up. Just wanted to make sure I was not spending a lot of time looking for parking or parking far from the hotel. Thanks for any help.

Scarab Sages 1/5

I'll have a spare L for you Varrian. The parking for the hotel is pretty expansive, especially for downtown. The majority of the parking lot is behind the hotel, but if that is full for some reason, the street in front of the hotel usually isn't parked up, especially in the morning. Less than a week away! Woooooooo!

PS - If you guys want to try something different (What? There are other RPGs?) We've got a guy running savage worlds in the morning slot, and I'm running DCCRPG in both the morning and 6pm slots.

Silver Crusade 5/5

Gentlemen,

I'm filling out paperwork this morning while fasting for a colonoscopy tomorrow and I was wondering the following.

1) Event # for Geekout so I can fill out chronicles and whatnot

2) Faction translations for older scenarios so I can amend faction missions

Thank you kind sirs,
Luth

EDITS: answered my own questions... for those who want to prep ahead...

Shadow = Cheliax
Grand = Osirion
Lantern = Qadira
Silver Crusade = Andoran

T-minus 5 days and counting!

Alright, there's not a huge amount of new news to report on this rainy (at least at the Cleveland Municipal Airport) Monday morning.

EXCEPT....that there's a damned fine possibility that we'll have APL T-shirts at GeekOut!!! There may not be many for sale, so hit up Thorynn if you want one (and don't wait until the Con). And if you cannot remember our good buddy Aravandor's design, then here. Big ups to Aravandor and Thorynn for bringing the Geek!

A quick search on the GeekOut website appears to confirm the fact that there are no RPG vendors set up to sell Pathfinder books at the Con (frown). Oh well, it looks like we'll just have to GIVE SOME AWAY!!! Yup, I promised prizes, and these are the real deal. DC will give away a copy of each of the current Pathfinder books sometime during the live (hopefully)-long day. Will he give them all away at once? Will he give them away in one fell swoop? Will he give them away in place of Hero Points? Who knows? Just be in the RPG Hall in order to win.

That's all I've got for now. Just a brief reminder on the timeline:

0800: Load in and set-up for anyone who wants to help out in the Gaming Hall.
0830: Breakfast for GMs and strategic prep-talk at the Writer's Bistro (in the hotel).
0930: GMs and players report to gaming tables (especially players who need character work).
1000: Kick off of Scenario Bracket #1.
1400: Kick off of Scenario Bracket #2.
1730 (approx.): Group call to Asheville Pizza and Brew for pizza (bring money!).
1800: Kick off of Scenario Bracket #3.
2230: GM wrap-up.
2300: Load out.
??????: Prize Give-Away!!!

GeekUp, Up, and Away!!!! (and Out).

-Dink

Scarab Sages 4/5

I'll do chances to get prizes throughout the day as the sessions progress. I will do the dice bag grab you want the Red SCARAB = a book or other cool prize of your choice and a Boon or the Blue SCARAB = a Boon.

1:10 chance to draw a BLUE SCARAB Die

1:50 chance to draw a RED SCARAB Die

I will have the giant d20's and some SCARAB Dice to give away to all players who do NOT already have some. I only have 2013 dice available - the 2011 and 2012 dice have become collectible and are only available at SCARAB Gaming Convention. Unless you know someone who is willing to part with theirs :-)

Sczarni

Just called the hotel. They said that if you are with a convention or conference parking is free! Awesomeness. This whole thing is just getting better and better. It is actually be my first convention ever. Really looking forward to it. Thanks for all of the continued updates by the way dinketry. Makes it more exciting. :-)

Scarab Sages 1/5

It won't be the largest, but it will definitely be an awesome gathering of good gaming guys! (and maybe some ladies) I'm really looking forward to it. Also, if no one is looking to play DCCRPG, I totally want in on Paul's Sewer Dragons session. I'll let you know when the T's arrive.

Thanks for the update, Thorynn.

T-minus 4 days and counting!

The GeekOut website has some info up on their front page about RPG and table-top gaming! Yeah, I know it's a small thing, but I'm excited that we're getting at least some recognized press. I will start plastering gaming stores and college campuses with GeekOut flyers. You want in on the action? You can print out your own GeekOut flyer HERE. I will start with the BRCC campus and The Deck Box (in Fletcher) tonite. I really will need help with respect to the Warren Wilson campus, Gamer's Haunt (Weaverville), and PastTimes (Woodfin). Any takers?

We have 38 people signed up on the WarHorn website to play in 17 RPGs on Saturday. By my math (and please check it), that's at least 2 players per game, not even counting walk-ins and walk-ups. Kudos to all y'all for using the WarHorn site early and often.

No news or peeps from the Pen and Paper, EN World, or Yahoo! Groups role-playing websites, but the Wyvern's Tale people are very excited. StrangePackages and I met up with one of the soon-to-be store owners last week, and they are greatly anticipating GeekOut. Make sure to say 'hi' to them during the Con.

I have made a reservation for 15 for the Writer's Bistro (it's the name of their restaurant! stop snickering, StrangePackages!) for Saturday morning at 830AM. This breakfast meeting will be for the GMs and the young'uns that are tagging along with them (i.e. Dain, DCII). Oh, and Varrian, you too for helping us load up.

StrangePackages, thanks for printing out sheets for all of us. If you don't have access to certain scenarios, or you need some help, let me know.

That's all I've got for now. Absalom lies dead-ahead!!!

The guy running Savage Worlds - Sundered Skies got in touch with me thru the Yahoo RPG Player finder. That game looks 5 shades of awesome. Airship battles??!! Heck yeah! Its 10AM only, if you want in.

I'm in for the GM breakfast meetup early. Hopefully we can get decked out in our APL T-shirts at that point. I'll print out signs for the tables indicating which table is which game. Hopefully we'll have enough tables for all the stuff we're trying to run.

Its going to be one crazy awesome saturday!

Yeah, I don't have a lot of news at this point. I think you've heard everything there is to hear....

To celebrate GeekOut, the Hop Ice Cream Shoppe will be unveiling geek-themed ice cream flavors all this week. Today's flavor: Vanillium Falcon. Wow, that is a geeky flavor. Rumor has it that they'll have all the various flavors available at GeekOut.

Thorynn, thanks for printing out game table signs. We'll also have a white board somewhere near the entrance to the game room to allow people to identify where there game will be held. Thorynn, if you could name the tables (i.e. A1, A2, A3 for the first sessions, B1, B2 for the second sessions....you get the idea, and thanks again). I'll have a posterboard set up somewhere near the main convention entrance to allow "walk-ups" to peruse the games and "sign-up" for slots as they'd like.

I'm plastering AB Tech this evening. I've got full-color GeekOut flyers for anyone who's interested in getting them from me.

Checking out the WarHorn site, we may have to move a gamer from the later (2PM and 6PM) Intro Steps series slots. I would definitely encourage someone to try out 'We Be Goblins' or 'CypherMage Dilemma' instead of trying to run a 7-headed Intro Step. Of course, final decision is up to Jake.

OK, peoples. That's all for now. Be well out there, and warm up your dice.

I don't think it would be fare to the players to allow more then 6 PCs (6 is a bit much for an Intro already).

When it comes game time only 6 PCs will be at my table as long as there is space for players at another.
The first 6 are guaranteed a slot if they show up. Then I'll work down the list from there if I have an opening.

Scarab Sages 4/5

I can always move my kids to another table. They have already played the Intro Series so they are more than happy to move to another table. I would say that if seats are needed my kids can get bumped first.
