A save and an attack are essentially the same thing, just reversing the static and dynamic components. Defense is active in the case of saves, but passive in the case of attacks. A character has the option to concede their defense. While someone generally wouldn't resist a cure wounds spell and would try to resist inflict wounds, and a vampire will generally choose to do the opposite, there's nothing stopping either from allowing or trying to resist either. Unless someone wants to consider you a threat, they can drop their AC-based guard in that way too. If the assumption were that people default to keeping their guard up for an allies' spells, the same would be true of the allies' physical threat potential. The 'friend' behind you would inadvertently grant a flanking bonus to the enemy in front of you.
Makes sense to me. Course it would, that's how I want it to work. :-)

hey all quick question yesterday i seen a lot of peeps with PC's pre made Any one know where you can get a pregenerated Characters makers
This is what I use:
http://www.pathfinderdb.com/character-sheets/form-fillable-character-sheets /1477-abellius-form-fillable-character-sheetIt's a fillable PDF form that fills in bonuses elsewhere once you enter ability scores and such. Check a skill as being in-class, put a rank in it, and the +3 bonus will fill in for you, etc.
I'm sure HeroLab is more comprehensive, but the full version isn't free, and you do have to check to make sure things it offers are still legal for PFS play. Luthril's offer sounds like a good deal, though.

For PFS, if a character dies, does the scenarios that one completed become available for credit for other characters that person plays?
If my cleric were to die, who has quest for perfection part 3 credit, would another character of mine be able to play that scenario for credit?
I noticed this line in the list of updates to the Pathfinder Guide:
Updated text so GMs are now allowed to take boons when they are offered on a Chronicle sheet.
I thought you might be interested, since this would seem to indicate that if you run Quest for Perfection 3 as a GM after the changes go into effect on August 16th, you'll be able to apply the sheet to your Gunslinger and get the Axebeak Boon. I hope that's true and it works out for you, cause, man, that was rough to watch at the end of the game when you didn't get a sheet.
For any GM's that want to verify, or anyone who's interested, here's the blog post:

Depends on how recently they've updated. In researching various things on these boards, I've run across people saying they didn't know something wasn't legal because they had just assumed HeroLab took care of that.

Good news! Chris, put on your GM hat and Run QfPIII and apply it to you Gunslinger!

Tengu, Aasimar, and Tieflings, oh my!
And now it's officially legal that my Gunslinger GM-credit bank who has an AxeBeak can actually have the AxeBeak. Oops, I mean, now I'm legal!
It doesn't look like there's anything there affecting gunslingers so much, speaking of that. I know that there were doom-and-gloom rumors out there that they were going to nix the Way of the Gun for Society play.
Interesting notes:
a) You may take 10 on a Day Job Roll.
b) Free rerolls come not only from shirts, but also from using the Paizo Character Folio. Still only one reroll per scenario. Sneaky Paizo pushing new products...
c) “A player who uses a pregenerated character must apply the Chronicle sheet to a newly created 1st-level character or hold the Chronicle sheet until his character reaches the level of the pregenerated character.”
Other cool stuff...check out the discussion link HERE
I have not updated our awesomeness from Saturday yet. But I will soon....
Happy Rainy Monday, my funky monkeys...

Hey guys, I got published by Paizo!
It's only five uncredited sentences, but compare the contents of this post by me to the contents of page 23 of the 4.2 Pathfinder Society Guide to Organized Play, under the heading "Prestige". They added one sentence to my suggested text, but otherwise didn't change my posted text by a single character.

Zebaroth, as stated in the blog post, the new rules take effect August 16th.
a) You may take 10 on a Day Job Roll.
I like this a lot. It makes those vanities that let you use skills other than Craft, Perform, or Profession for Day Jobs slightly more appealing. It makes gnomes slightly more appealing. It may lead to greater acceptance and use of the Take 10 rule in general, which could speed up play a bit.
I don't think anyone's mentioned the rebuild rules yet. See page 10 of the new Guide for the details. In a nutshell, you can change anything except the character's PFS number until the first time you play the character at 2nd level.
The new Quick Start Guide is *really* nice too. I may print out a few copies, mark through my e-mail address, and keep them in my PFS notebook to give to new players.

Quick languages questions... I don't have a copy of the Inner Sea Guide, and I haven't been able to find the list of languages online. Can Thassilonian be taken as a language? I know it's supposed to be a dead language, but being Osirion, that doesn't seem like a deterrent. I put a point in Linguistics when I advanced and forgot to add a language. Given what Osirion's Season 4 goals are, I was hoping to take Thassilonian, since I imagine I'll be digging through ancient volumes quite a bit more than usual.
Also, being Osirion, both as a faction and country of origin, should I have gotten Osirian for free at 1st level? I took it as one of my languages from my intelligence bonus, but I think I cheated myself a language (Human, 14 Int +2 languages, and I currently have Common, Osirian, and Tien).
Thanks to whoever can clear things up.
Ferious Thune |
Thanks. I'll add Thassilonian for my Linguistics point.
To be honest, as far as race/origins go, I knew very little about the Pathfinder world when I made the character (and know only slightly more now from what I've picked up in games). Osirion was explained to me as similar to ancient Egypt, and this description, taken from the Pathfinder wiki, is consistent with what I was thinking:
"Many folk of Osirion are of old Garundi blood, bronze-skinned, and gifted with the noble bearing of the ancient pharaohs."
So if that means I'm Garundi, then I'm Garundi. If that's something I needed to make clearer when creating the character, then I won't worry about the extra language.
Thanks again.

Chris, I'll put you in there. Thanks for running, man!
Well poop and more poop about the Axe Beak and no go-backsies. I guess PaizoCon doesn't need to know that I brought an illegal mount into a scenario at their con.
Zebaroth, you can start making aasimar, tengu, and tiefling PFS characters now. Official day that you can start playing them in PFS play is August 16th. Next PFS Lodge meeting is August 18th. I expect to see a lot of new races.
Keep the conversation going, people. Happy Tuesday.

Also, I know Stu said he could run a game for us at UNCA on the 25th. I need to have the information to them by Friday, so is anyone else able to run a beginner scenario for UNCA students? The evening goes from 5PM-1AM and we can do it anytime during that period.
Please drop me a line: simeon AT theWyvernsTaleAvl DOT com

This is a bit in the future, but would be worth planning out, especially if we could get some support from DCII and the SCARAB crew. What do you guys think about having a special event to commemorate the first anniversary of our lodge (1st week of December). I'm thinking Blood Under Absalom We'd need FIVE simultaneous tables, but it was really a lot of fun at SCARAB con last year, and would be something to work towards.
What do you guys think!? Hooray for the APL!

Let me check on my availability on the 25th. If I can I will let you know ASAP.

I was going to run an "This is Pathfinder Society" event there later on once I though everyone would be settled, and I have to really learn Webees first. First day I was going to post flyers.
But depending on my classes I might be able to help the 25th if I'm not to swamped.

I will be available for future UNCA playdate games as needed, but not for this one on the 25th.
Great idea about Blood Under Absalom for our 1 year anniversary, Thorynn! We should pass out tiaras to all the people who were present for the first Society event. Thanks for coming to celebrate with us, Del!
Woo-hoo!

Here is an interesting little tidbit I just found in the Core Rule Book...
"Humanoid creatures without two free hands attempting to grapple a foe take a –4 penalty on the combat maneuver roll." Does this same penalty apply if you are grappled and holding weapons and try to reverse the grapple? ....
Also... and I need to do some research here, but I'll ask... Do you threaten while grappling... I know that when you are grappled you can take no AoO, but I would think the grappler would also not be able to because he would have to let go of his target... right?
Food for thought... How does that grab ya?
