9 people marked this as a favorite.

Dear All,

As someone who has frequently searched the Paizo messageboards hunting for evidence of Pathfinder Society life out here in western North Carolina, I am pleased as punch to announce that....

Friday December 9th will be the evening for a quick Pathfinder Society meet-n-greet at Blitzkrieg Games (21 Battery Park Avenue Asheville, NC (828) 505-3921) at 530PM. Bring potential PFS characters for review, but make sure that they're made using the PFS guidelines.

We'll be social and sociable until 7PM, when my Jade Regent Pathfinder gang will be starting up at Blitzkrieg. Stay and see what Pathfinder is all about, if you don't know.

Then, on Saturday December 10th (time to be announced but in the afternoon/evening), we will be starting up Pathfinder Society scenarios! These are 4-hour-long gaming scenarios for PFS characters. You don't need to be at the Friday meeting to join in the fun on Saturday, and we're hoping to have three tables going at once.

Please email me with any questions as we prepare to throw open the doors on our new PFS Lodge!!!

Happy Happy Joy Joy!!!

Yes! YES!!! Let's get this lead (led) zeppelin off the ground first, but in short, yes!

Cool. I'll let you know what weekend for sure next week. I will probably run one day at Blitzkrieg and one day at Hill Side.

Thats great news. Wish i lived closer to Asheville so i could be there.

Good luck, and perhaps one day i can visit y'all and game.

Scarab Sages 4/5

I tried to schedule The Midnight Mauler for Blitzkrieg the 17th but Ken is saying no that they are too busy with a 40K Tourney at that time. I haven't called Hillside yet, becuase Ken said that you and Dan were going to handle scheduling PFS at Blitzkrieg and that I should try to schedule through you guys for an event at the store.

Are you locked into Blitzkrieg or are you ok to do it at Hillside, I am sure Hillside will say yes to the 17th.

I am booked until March otherwise. I will be in Asheville on the 17th and part of the 18th. I really would like to run something while I'm there at one of the stores.

Sovereign Court

Hey Delbert, Dain here. I'll probably be in Hendersonville on the 17th, so I would not be available that weekend most likely. The first month is going to be kinda wacky, I'm sure, while we try to get everything squared with schedules and whatnot.

Hey DCII, I spoke to Kent earlier today. We're good for the 17th in the early evening, say around 530PM. Kent was hoping for a quote from you about the Midnight Mauler so they could post it on the website and the store FB page.

How does all of this grab ya?

Silver Crusade 4/5

Man I just found this thread by accident.

I can't wait to play in another game run by you DCII. Dinketry and I both had so much fun at MACE.

I will be at both locations when you come as long as I am not working.

I'm in Kingsport, TN, and unfortunately driving an hour and a half one way for PFS is just a little much for me. Too bad it's the closest one... *sigh*

Scarab Sages 4/5

OK I'll bring a couple of scenarios with me and do a calendar entry on the Paizo calendar that Blitzkrieg can link to.

Grand Lodge 5/5 * Venture-Captain, New Zealand—Dunedin

That's great! We announced to the PFS people who showed up both Friday and Saturday this weekend your plans to come on up to Blitzkrieg. I'll also forward your information to them. What time do you want to start? If BKG cannot accommodate us until around 5PM, do we want to try a different venue for the earlier portion of the afternoon (Hillside maybe)?

Scarab Sages 4/5

Blitzkrieg Calendar Event

Start can be anytime, but since they are having the Warhammer Tourney early we should probably start around 6pm? Does that sound good?

For a few hours more you can come to SCARAB in Columbia in SC for 4 days of gaming where we have over 100 tables of PFS and are currently running a registration special for $40 till the 18th!

Sounds just fine. I'm telling folks to arrive around 5PM so they can get their characters settled prior to Game Time. BKGs is closed today, but if you send them a link via FB, they'll get it posted toute de suite.

Thanks!

Scarab Sages 4/5

Done. I am bringing 2 Scenarios and the We Be Goblins module. I will also bring the Intro Series in case there is anyone that really needs them, one or more.

I wanted to pop in and say thanks to Paul and Dain for organizing Pathfinder Society in Asheville, and especially thanks to Blitzkrieg Games for hosting us. Your efforts and hospitality are much appreciated.

I played last weekend as the ranger Nansen in Paul's "Frostfur Captives" game. Paul was a good GM, and my fellow players were both fun and funny.

This was my first ever Pathfinder Society gaming session, and I really enjoyed it. It was more fun, and a lot more on focus, than a lot of home games I've played.

Grand Lodge 5/5 * Venture-Captain, New Zealand—Dunedin

Cheers, Nansen! Well met and we hope to see you regularly at the Lodge! I can say I had a blast running the scenario, and I look forward to more.

Hi all, I played last Saturday as Bekra at Blitzkrieg with Dinketry and Nansen. I'd like to echo the thanks to Paul and Dain for organizing these events. It was good company all around and best of all, everyone came to play. I felt like there was a lot of good roleplaying and teamwork in that little session. I am looking forward to more this Saturday and I'm hoping to weasle my way into some campaign here or there eventually.

Hope to see you all soon out there!

Liberty's Edge 2/5

I'll see you all there. I'm hoping to get a good seat for the fireworks. I have a BSF that I'm dying to play.

Grand Lodge 5/5 * Venture-Captain, New Zealand—Dunedin

Aravandor, StrangePackage....I know we're all excited here in my head for this coming Saturday. Lodge doors open at 5PM.

Scarab Sages 4/5

Do you have any idea how many are coming - I have stuff from sponsors to give away and I am not sure I have enough for a really large crowd.

Grand Lodge 5/5 * Venture-Captain, New Zealand—Dunedin

I can guarantee at least 12, but given the positive feedback on the messageboards I would estimate as many as 25.

Please be sure to bring plenty of SCARAB convention info; I know people will be eager to plan trips.

ooh free stuff! :P and it sounds like we will have lots of players. convincing more ppl to go to SCARAB is always a good thing. We might just have a good sized representation from our Lodge.

I could tell you were having fun, especially playing the NPCs, and I think that set a tone that helped us players to have more fun.

Definitely aiming to be a regular, though this time of year the weather and the cold germs often have other ideas.

Bekra, enjoyed gaming with you. Hope we meet up again in future missions.

Looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow evening.

Liberty's Edge 2/5

Thanks, Dell, for a great game and a D20 of Bludgeoning. We really had fun!

Scarab Sages 1/5

I had a great time both weeks! It was nice to take Wintalas out for a spin. Thanks to BKG for hosting, and thanks to Del for running a big table and giving away cool stuff!

Thanks, Nansen. That's high praise for a chaotic neutral professional liar coming from a lawful good ranger. But yeah, I enjoyed the Frostfur Captives with you guys. I have no doubt Bekra will meet up with Nansen again for some questing (and to collect on the outstanding 10gp debt for slipping the bar wench that secret note. Bekra occasionally forgets a friend, but he never forgets a debt owed to him...)

But seriously, I've been enjoying the society events immensely. The players have been great and the DMing even better. BTW: Is it GMing or DMing in Pathfinder? I'm still learning the etiquette and jargon of Pathfinder.

I hope everyone has great holidays. I'll see you all again around the 7th of January.

Grand Lodge 5/5 * Venture-Captain, New Zealand—Dunedin

I also would like to thank DCII for dropping by with the Midnight Mauler this past Saturday at BKGs! The Golarions in attendance had a blast. And don't y'all forget about his SCARAB convention in Columbia, SC from January 13-16th. Four days of Awesome!

This is the time of the year where we gather together in our little tribes and think about how peace on earth would be a nice thing. Accordingly, the Asheville Pathfinder Lodge will be keeping its doors closed through the holiday season to keep the cold out and the marauding Pathfinder hordes in.

We will come back, bigger, badder, and bastard-ier (?) in the new year. Look out for the Asheville Lodge throwing open its doors again on January 7th, and in the meantime, give the gift of Golarion this season. Hook someone you know and love on your favorite addiction, and support your local gaming store in the process.

Cheers and good will towards men (and dwarves, gnomes, elves, halflings, half-elves, and half-orcs)!

Scarab Sages 4/5

Thanks gang, I had a great time and enjoyed meeting everyone. I will be back in a couple of months and will try to work it out so that I can bring several game masters with me and we can make it an all day event so you can get in about three games in a day.

I hope you can all make it down to SCARAB even if just for a day trip.

I dropped off those chronicles I was missing yesterday at the desk so if you were missing one it should be waiting on you at the cash register. If I missed anyone, sorry about that, let me know and I will mail it to you. Paul I left one for you too.

Grand Lodge 5/5 * Venture-Captain, New Zealand—Dunedin

Why, thank you! See you in a few weeks, DCII. And a Merry Xmas to everyone! I enjoyed your brood's souped-up Pathfinders greatly!

Scarab Sages 4/5

Do you want me to report that round for you as part of the event if so please send me a private email with the PFS ids and I'll get it reported. I wasn't sure if you made an event. But I can report your table under the event so Paizo knows how succesful the event was.

Grand Lodge 5/5 * Venture-Captain, New Zealand—Dunedin

I went ahead and reported it already (just my table). I hope that was what I was supposed to do. It should've posted already.

By the way, I didn't forget about getting with you about getting into SCARAB before the special rate closed out. My group and I will likely only be available for a day or two, so we decided to just get day passes. We'll still stop by and say 'howdy'.

And a belated Happy Birthday!

-dink

Scarab Sages 4/5

That's fine. I meant to ask you about it there. What you will want to do as you move forward is to have one person (The Organizer) create the event and then after each table runs collect the table information (Scenario + GM ID + Player IDs) and report all the tables.

That way Paizo can see how many tables a single event had. That is very useful for the PFS Coordinator to know.

I would put in your gm id and the player ids and you would get credit for the table or you could have reported mine, which is probably what we should have done was me give you my table info and let you report it so you could get some practice as an organizer.

Thanks, my daughter made me a birthday song that started "Happy birthday to you, you're only 42, your hair is the color of Elmers Glue ...."

You'll see me there, I'll be running a few tables along with the VC's and VL from Atlanta and some of their great game masters along with the SCARAB game masters. We have tons of stuff to award to folks across all the various gaming events so this is going to be an awesome convention.

Hi Dell. I've just now finally started looking at the accounting that goes on in Pathfinder Society play regarding equipment and I have a question for you. In the "Midnight Mauler" scenario you ran at Blitzkreig, one of the items I'm eligible to buy is a "Sword of Station, Lesser". What variety of sword is this? A short sword, long sword, two handed sword, etc... It is not specified on the sheet. Is it just a "choose your favorite flavor of sword" thing?

A minor question, I know, but business is slow at this time of year and it gives me too much time to think about these kind of details.

Grand Lodge 5/5 * Venture-Captain, New Zealand—Dunedin

Hey Aravandor. I've done some research into your question. Del more than likely is hip-deep in SCARAB planning right now, so I'll take a shot at your question.

I posted a thread in the PFS GM post and came up with the following answer:

Spoiler:
"The way it was explained to me, it's a non-functional sword of whatever fluff you desire. I imagine it more like a rapier, due to the nature of the region reminding me of Italy. Principalities and all that."

-Dan Luckett

Of course, once Del gets a chance to respond to your question, I'm sure you'll get a more definitive answer. Hope you're well and I look forward to seeing you on the 7th!

Happy New Year!

-Dink

Liberty's Edge 2/5

Is it the seventh yet?

Thanks, Dink. I never even considered that it may be a purely ornamental weapon. Good to know.

Strange: I'm glad that I'm not the only one who's suffering RPG withdrawal. All these minor cult holidays and seasonal observances this winter are really getting on my nerves. I vote that the Asheville Lodge call off the celebration of carpenters' birthdays and new calendars next year for the sake of gaming continuity and the mental health of our members.

Also, I just registered for SCARAB. I'll be there for Sat. Jan 14th and Sun. Jan. 15. Never been to a gaming convention. I just couldn't pass one up in my own back yard. Let me know who else around here is planning to attend so I can keep my eyes open for you!

Grand Lodge 5/5 * Venture-Captain, New Zealand—Dunedin

Sure thing, Aravandor!

I'm all about gamers' mental health. So to keep your little gray cells happy, I have devised some gamers trivia. Three questions, each harder than the rest. Only you will know if you answered without using references.

Our theme for this trivia round: the old old OLD "World's Oldest RPG" cartoon that was on in the 80s. Ready? Go!

1.) What was the name of the Lead Bad Guy (not the dragon) on the show? What was the key feature of his appearance?

Spoiler:
1.) His name was Venger, and he sported a helmet with only one horn.

2.) Which classes were represented on the show?

Spoiler:
2.)Acrobat, ranger, cavalier, magician (wizard), thief, barbarian.

3.) Can you name the six friends? What about their pet?

Spoiler:
3.)Hank, Eric, Diana, Presto, Sheila, Bobby. Extra super bonus point if you knew that Presto's real name was Albert. Their pet unicorn was named Uni. Yup, real creative.

Oh, and I'll be at SCARAB along with a mess of the Rusty Dragons on the Saturday of the con. Should be a blast.

Cheers,
Pablo

Here is the information from the scenario.

New magic Item:
Sword of Station
Once a common sight in Ardis’s courts and courtrooms, swords of station began falling out of favor over a century ago and most now collect dust in storerooms or mounted, forgotten, on mantles.

Sword of Station
Aura faint abjuration and enchantment; CL 1st Slot belt; Price 360 gp (lesser), 1,680 gp (normal), 4,120 gp (greater); Weight 5 lbs

Description:
This ornate sword and belt impart uncanny confidence and insight while worn, granting a +2 competence bonus on Sense Motive checks. Three times per day, the wearer may draw the sword and deliver a single-word command, as per the spell. Lesser versions of swords of station exist that allow the wearer to cast command once per day, but they lack the
confidence-boosting enhancements. Greater swords of station improve the competence bonus on Sense Motive checks to +5. A sword of station is blunted and poorly balanced, intended as a showpiece rather than a weapon. If used in combat, treat it as an improvised club.

Construction
Requirements Craft Wondrous Item, command, remove fear, creator must have 2 ranks in the Sense Motive skill; Cost 180 gp (lesser), 840 gp (normal), 2,060 gp (greater)

So, apparently Blitzkrieg is closed until further notice. Do you think Hillside would host the 7th?

http://www.facebook.com/BlitzkriegGames

Its a bummer, I really liked that space.

Grand Lodge 5/5 * Venture-Captain, New Zealand—Dunedin

Wow, that's a shock. It looks like Blitzkrieg is off the map for the foreseeable future. But never fear, fellow gamers! Upcoming PFS gaming site will be announced soon. Stay tuned!

Hmm. I am just across the stateline in Virginia. I was beginning to think I was all alone in this area. LOL

Scarab Sages 4/5

I am certain Hillside would host, I have spoken to them about it in the past. So is Blitzkrieg out of business or just closed for the winter and reopening in a few weeks as their post says?

Scarab Sages 1/5

Hopefully it will reopen soon, but we were trying to get in one more game before SCARAB. I was bringing a few guys with me too. If everyone shows for the 7th (where ever that may be) It would be me and 3 other guys. If the regulars show up, we may have enough for two tables. Let's keep the momentum going!

I know hillside generally does a lot of MTG and Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh and all sorts of stuff on saturday. Hopefully we can snag a table or two.

The Store Owner is his own landlord, and has indicated to me in the past that the store is there more as a hobby than a functional source of income (which may realisitcally be impracticable with such great space). I suspect, without knowing, that they will be back up and running when it's convenient to do so.

It is a pity, though. Was really enjoying the store

Well you can count me in wherever we choose to meet.

Scarab Sages 4/5

So it sounds like they are seriously just on a winter break. So that is good news.

Grand Lodge 5/5 * Venture-Captain, New Zealand—Dunedin

Sadly, y'all, we're going to have to cancel this Saturday's planned Pathfinder Lodge meeting. Still hunting a new spot for the game, and working on several alternatives, but none will be available for this coming Saturday.

Thanks for your encouragement in the meantime. We'll get this thing back up and running in the soon future.

Cheers,
Dink

Scarab Sages 1/5

Thats too bad. I know a lot of guys were looking forward to it. Any public spaces available? Rooms at the library, that sort of thing?
