Pathfinder Online

1 to 50 of 62 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | next > last >>

besides for the core races i hope you will allow some of the other playable races that has been something i like especially the tengu and some of the other races as well. (i do understand that those extra races would probably be pay to play races) and maybe put out a thing to build your own race with some kind of race building thingy within the game to give the pathfinder community some more races/creatures for also the tabletop game and the online game as well but the race has to be accepted by goblinworks and pathfinder ect.

Other types of humanoids would be cool but I wouldn't want anything too freaky (monstrous humanoids). Especially no animal-people. Like no cat-people or wolf-people or cow-people or panda-people please. I'd be down with Orcs or Goblins though. :)

yes for the love of iomedae, make goblins a playable race. i would love to play my goblin sorcerer / dragon disciple and make the world burn :P

Catfolk are an official race in Pathfinder, but I don't know if/when it would ever be added.

The tengu are crow-people. :)just google them. I think it comes down to crowdforging in which order they are going to implement races.

Goblin Squad Member

Love the idea of playing a Tengu or catfolfk. Hobgoblins and Kobolds would be nice too. But I believe they will add this kind of race latter in the game.

Grand Lodge Goblin Squad Member

I'l love to play an android, and the River Kingoms are pretty close to Numeria. :) But I just want to have all the core races before we worry about adding any others. Hell, we will only have three or four of the core races when EE begins.

Only 3 or 4? I don't like this. I hope they can have all core races availiable just from the beggining.

Grand Lodge Goblin Squad Member

EE will begin with Humans, Dwarves, and Elves. The rest of the core races will be in the game before launch, with crowdforging polls determining the order. Due to the poll results, Gnomes will be the next race put into game. Possibly at the opening of EE, but if not then shortly after.

Goblin Squad Member

I hope they allow people to change race at least once or we will have a lot of crying players complaining of not being able to play the race they make availabe latelly. Not my case though, as I intend to play a Dwarf and a human as destiny twin.

And Gnomes. Don't forget teh gnomes. Was almost halflings but the gnomes pushed in the last few yards and broke the tape first.

I think it's reasonable to expect that as new races get added during Early Enrollment, we'll probably have a way to make racial changes within some limits (like once per character).

If they add orcs maybe the Shadow Clan will show up! Hoowah!

Grand Lodge Goblin Squad Member

There will be Half-Orcs. Don't know about full Orcs.

Ugh, definitely no panda-people. Feline, canine tho...yeah. Gobbos, orcs -surely. Definitely some monstrous types tho. I'd love to see several other races come on board. EQ, WoW and Vanguard have several and it's refreshing to see. After 35+ yrs of PnP and RPG-MMo's, I am a bit bored with the generic fantasy staples of human, dwarf, and elf. Always loved it when I got to have lycanthropy or change into a skelly or ent.

I'd like to put a shout out for shen(EotPT,(oop)think lizardman), phraints (Arduin, think mantis-man), yuan-ti (DnD think serpent folk?), "squid-heads" (aka mindflayer, illithid (but no psionics), undead (wraith, skeleton, liche - take your pick) and driders and centaurs and minotaurs and...and...Kinda a Piers Anthony smorgasboard.
Don't know how these fit with Golarion's history and I won't see any of them. (well, maybe one or 2) Maybe I need to find a spot in Golarion and write a couple books, stir up interest (ala Drizzt) and who knows...

Am curious if/how shapechange etc. will be implemented.

Hopin' the devs do allow some of us (me,me, me!) to be monsters in some world event is probably the best I can hope for.

This was a bonus for the Alpha and higher level backers in the Kickstarter.

Quote:
All Crowdforger Alpha backers will be given the opportunity to take part in monster casting for Pathfinder Online. Monster casting is a pool of players from which we will draw participants in various monster-based events in the campaign. Participants will be able to play the roles of the monsters needed for the campaign event and will be given direction by the Goblinworks staff on playing these monsters. Being in the monster casting pool is currently the only way that players will be able to play monsters while playing Pathfinder Online. This is a special privilege and not a right—if it is abused by a member of the monster casting pool, this privilege will be taken away.

Now it says it's *currently* the only way to get in on it, so it may change. As an alpha, I kind of hope not, since it was one of the big reasons why I bumped my pledge up to that level, but if it happens, it happens.

Goblin Squad Member

PFO will go live with Humans, Elves and Dwarves but because a stretch goal was met it will also go live with Gnomes.

Acoording to popularity based on the recent poll the races will go into the game in this order: first Halfling and then Half-Orc and last but not least... Half-Elf.

Other races besides that are probably at least a year or two after the game goes live for everyone.

I hope they let me swap races, I realy want to play as a half orc.

I have decided on Drow ... with a Dire llama mount

You probably will need to wait a long time, as Drow (if allowed) will be not in the priority list for races. You would need to start as another race and change later.

The "whole" map man never be available as it will be always subject to expansion and the limit of it will be likely be related to player/settlement numbers. Full craft system may not be present in the beggining too as they may decide to halt the development of it as most players will need time to reach the higher levels of crafting/profession skills. So maybe it will just be expanded gradually.

In the start we will have only the three NPC settlements and having more will deppend on players be able to build it.

I would really like the ability to simulate the different sub-races of Elf and Dwarf via appearance sliders. (dark skin, white hair, etc) If people want racial unlocks, those should be available too.

Most of all, I want PFO to feel like it's own game. Animal-human hybrid races are so common in other games, I would like them to be the lowest priority. For me, as a very old school D&D player, I like to see the races from the core rule book and nothing else for launch. That way, we have mostly core races, and weirdos are added later.

Should half-elf really exist at all?

I mean they look just like an elf anyway.

My suggestion is this: the offspring of a human and an elf either looks like a human or as an elf and not like something inbetween.

And then we come to... half-orc, really what a good name, that must have taken hours to come up with... but no.

Lets rename the half-orc to something more imaginative.

Uruk-hai sounds good to me but it's probably copyrighted by the Tolkien's but you get my drift.

GW will certainly keep things in PFO in concordance with PFRPG rules and Golarion lore. So I don't see any chance of such kind o change.

Actually, Half Elf do not look exactly like elves, their ears are smaller, and they are shorter than elves. And they don't share many of Elfic habilities. They also have a personality more close to human behavior, most of them at least.

Half-orcs have no racial specific name because they are outcasts, so nobody probably cared to give their race a name.

half - halflings ... they would be quarterlings ?

Something that always bothered me about d&d was the fact that elves were shorter than men. I'm really glad they fixed that with Pathfinder.

Goblin Squad Member

The Shameless One wrote:

Tolkien agrees with you. I think they look like humans anyway, except the ears.

Do half-elves need separate graphics (body build, animations) from humans? maybe not
Should half-elves have different mechanics from humans: thats a different questions.
Do half-elves need a separate culture? most likely not

If half-elves can be graphically implemented as a "human with a few racial feats and pointed ears", it should be very easy to add them. Implementing the mechanics seems trivial since all the half-elf abilities are similar to human or elven ones.

And what about the other possible offsprings between different races?

Human + Dwarf = Half-Dwarf?

Dwarf + Halfling = ???

Halfling + Gnome = ???

Gnome + Elf = ???

I actually liked the change. It makes them more feyish and closer resembles the classical view of what an elf is. I alos thought you could put it within the context of Tolkien if you saw them as "fourth or fifth" age elves, since Tolkien did say that Elves devolved during the age of man. The D&D elf could stand as a missing link between the Noldor and Santa's workshop.

IMO, the Pathfinder/WoW is confusing, taller than men but frailer.

Human + Dwarf = Half-Dwarf?

uncopatible match never heard of one. Actually Halfling apparently do not generate Half-bloods at all.

Gnomes are fey people, too different of other races to generate half-blooded.

I always assumed that

Hairfoots = pure halflings
Stouts = dwarven blood
Tallfellow = elven blood

Goblin Squad Member

@ randonwalker

Never heard (or read) of that, for me they are just different lineages, could be wrong though.

Goblin Squad Member

I've never been a fan of the rampant cross fertility in most fantasy worlds. I thought Shadowbane's take on half elves was interesting. Basically they were sterile like mules and mostly crazy because of the incompatibility of the elven and human psyches.

Grand Lodge Goblin Squad Member

If you want to go the Dark Sun route, Human+Dwarf = Mul, Human+Giant = Half-Giant and Elf+Halfling = Elfling

Goblin Squad Member

avari3 wrote:

ooh ... Santa Elves ... like Gnomes but singing ... can I play one?

I don't really want to see any of the monstrous races. If we have to, I want to avoid the non-Bestiary 1 races. Catfolk and sylphs are all cool and all, but we don't need race bloat in our game.

Now, maybe one or two monstrous races could work. Goblins as the sole pay-to-play race could be neat. But I really don't want to bump into catfolk in my PFO. Wrong genre, people. :P

When did elves get creepy black eyes?

It´s PFRPG stuff I guess, they were not that way in D&D 3.5 as well.
