Upcoming Jade Regent PbP in need of one more player ASAP!

Recruitment

My current PbP, Heroes of the Lost Coast, has come to a group decision that due to some RL concerns, we are shelving the campaign and are instead going to play through the Jade Regent campaign. I am looking for one more player to round the group out.

Our four active PCs are:

An Inquisitor
A Bard (Archeologist archetype)
And a Summoner (Synthesist archetype)
An Oracle.

While not the only options, given the party's make up I'm looking for characters who fill roles that aren't present, such as a strong martial character, or a more traditional arcane character. But I will consider all applications.

Applications will be open for submission until I find an app that I feel will fit well with the group.

INTRODUCTION

Sandpoint - an ideallic town nestled in a natural cove along the Lost Coast. A Holding in Good standing of Magnimar, Sandpoint is well supplied and thriving community, by all accounts the town is a Paradise. Or at least, it would be - if not for serial killers, strange fires, goblin raids, ghoul infestations and giant attacks - but such is the way of life on the frontier, and all of that lies in the past.

It has been four years since the defeat of the Runelord Karzoug at the hands of Sandpoint's heroes, and the town has been peaceful in those years. Sadly on the Lost, peace is a fragile thing, and a new group of heroes will need to rise up for the town of Sandpoint, and the Lost Coast, or see them fall into darkness.

STYLE

Thematically this game owes a lot of inspiration to a few different sources, primarily Kingmaker and DM Barcas' "Kingmaker" and his "Kingmaker of Korvosa" PbPs. (Both awesome reads for any looking to lurk! I highly reccomend it)

I am looking to develop my DMing into a more narrative style and will be expecting the same from my players. Expect a lot of conversation, both between PCs and NPCs. I will be giving experience based on Roleplaying and combat will most likely only be 50% of the game. (sometimes more and sometimes less, depending on the adventure)

CHARACTER CREATION

In yet another idea I'm thiefing from DM Barcas, we'll be using a 20 point buy, with a bonus of 2 points for having one non-neutral alignment axis and 3 points for having two. (Thus, N gets 20; LN, NE, CN, NG get 22, LG, LE, CE, CG get 23.)Dump stats are not appreciated and will need to be justified in character. I am allowing all books from the core ruleset (Core book, APG, Ultimate Magic, Ultimate Combat,) other Paizo sources will be allowed with DM approval. Mostly alternate races will have the hardest time getting approval, just check with me about anything else.

You may select two traits for your character. One of these traits MUST come from the campaign traits listed in the Jade Regent players guide.

If you have no prior posting experience, that's fine. Everyone started like that at some point. I may ask for a writing sample.Take your time to craft a really good application! The more you immerse your character in Golarion, the better. And I highly recommend tying your background to one of the key NPCs listed in the Player's Guide (Sandru, Ameiko, Koya and Shalelu,) I honestly will not accept a character that hasn't done so. I may be asking questions of everyone (Some more or less than others, don't take that as a sign of anything) to get a good idea of each character and give everyone the best chance I can. That said Speed is part of the game this time around, so put your best foot forward!

This is a character I applied with for another Jade Regent campaign. Everything is in his profile, and may need some tweaks to match your char gen rules (PT buy and Traits I think).

I have another profile from a game that stopped fairly early on. I will post with him next.

This is the other. He is a LG Magus, but is a "Priest of Iomedae". He basically learned through study a different way to practice his faith, based on incantations and written texts (spellbook). He will be built towards a martial melee character.

I may also need to tweak his PT buy and traits, but I'm reluctant to modify this one unless accepted.

Guess I'm gonna sleep on it but looking at building a character around the Childhood Crush trait. As children I would have been one of Ameiko's closer friends. As we grew up I would be the one who would always try to be there for her. When her papa was cooked by glass (I have played rise of the runelords if that's a problem), when her brother turned out to be a conniving dick, when boyfriend after boyfriend left her crying I was always there with a shoulder to cry on to pick up the pieces, as such I was (with great displeasure) put in the friend category. Though the two sides warred with each other he struggled to keep his moral compass pointed true north and not fall to that dark voice telling him to sabotage her relationships. When she went out adventuring he went out with her, probably being the bumbling idiot. Not able to swing a sword and whatnot but he practiced in secret and longs for a chance to show her his new skills.

As a child I can see my character as the son of one of the peasants in town. His mother probably a maid or wet-nurse and his father a wood cutter or town guard. Growing up in the off time he probably worked for gorvy garbage man as one of gorvy's boys. As he grew up most likely moving on to running errands for the scarnetties. Then, when he and Ameiko returned from adventuring a waiter/bartender/busboy at the rusty dragon.

As this will be helpful for designing your PCs:

Of the four players two have confirmed their new builds. Their selected traits are:

Best Friend (Ameiko)
Childhood Crush (Shalelu)

A third has spoken of Childhood crush (Ameiko) but it hasn't been finalized yet.

Troy - Both look good. I like Lirithen but the build is probably too close to Yosrick's Archeologist bard. The other is good, as well, though I would either need to consider if I want two PCs with the same trait, or if you would consider changing it. (And you have 1 too many traits. But don't worry about editing those till you find whether or not you're accepted)

Roshan - watch your grammar. You slip between third and first person pronouns and it would hurt your entry's chances. And like above, I'm not sure if a PC will have that trait, so I may ask if you would consider changing it. On that note, I'm having that "my" version of Ameiko has not been intimate with anyone since she took ownership of the Rusty Dragon. Aside from that it sounds cool, can't wait to see it.

I have this character who was orphaned when a prior Jade Regent PbP went under that I was really rather looking forward to playing. He's a paladin, so he should fill the martial role, and he's Hero Worship: Shalelu.

In terms of writing samples, probably my favourite character so far (who also got orphaned) would be Gathien Toran, but most of my aliases link to characters who at least got some play (although some are stronger RP-wise based on the campaign than others).

If you like the basic premise, I'll shift him around (he's got 2 traits + a campaign one but was built on 20 points) to make him fit.

I am interested in applying. I will submit a half-elf alchemist vivisectionist for consideration.

DM Rennick:

Zaharin Jozaidir
LN, half-elf alchemist(vivisectionist).
Campaign traits = Rescued by Koya.

Occupation, bounty hunter.
Making his way through the outskirts of Sandpoint, Zaharin was busy looking for signs of his latest quarry when he was taken unawares by a group of thugs under the employ of the same man he was after. Overpowered, Zaharin was left lurching into death, had not for the timely divine healing by old Madame Koya.

She had taken him in, nursed and tended him back to health. Owing her a life debt, Zaharin was morally tied to her. His current pursuit broken until he could repay her in deeds, Zaharin felt he was morally bound to ensure the safety of the old woman until she let him go or the end of her natural life, whichever comes first.

Motivation:
i. - Paying off the life-debt owed to Koya until she dismisses him or dies naturally.
ii - Bounty hunting is Zaharin's calling in life to make ends meet and if he has an alternative way to generate wealth he would take it.

Do you need a full character stat block to make your decision, if so I could provide one if you need it.

I am interested. It is quite late here, so I'll give you my basic idea and hopefully you'll be leaving this open long enough that I can come back and flesh it out better in the next 24hours or so.

I want to play Shalelu's younger sister. Though deep down she loves her sister she is also resentful of her talent and adventures. She views Shalelu as trying to hold her back, so she is very competitive with her, always wanting to prove herself or show Shalelu up. She tends to be rebellious towards Shalelu, and living in her shadow has left a dark cloud over her personality, leaving someone a little more concerned with winning than how she achieves the result. Little sis's talents lie in a different area, she has studied wizardry, though her rebelliousness has pushed her toward darker magics (strongly considering making her a necromancer). This has actually become a bone of contention between them, making the the relationship tenser than ever. The more Shalelu says she shouldn't the more rashly little sis plunges on ahead. Of course when she finds out that Shalelu has joined the caravan, little sis isn't going to let her have all the fun and adventures to herself this time, any protestations from Shalelu well, of course, only make little sis more insistent on going.

Obviously a little refinement is needed, but if you think the idea has legs I think it would be fun to flesh out.

The original Irnk was an idea I had come up with when the JR Player's Guide came out almost the same time as Goblin's of Golarion.

The reader's digest version being Irnk was one of the statistically abberant Goblins born with a sense of empathy & compassion for others. Obviously that wouldn't fly in your average Goblin tribe & he got short-listed for sacrifice. It just so happens that Shalelu was planning to raid that particular tribe for some reason or another & she wound up picking the time of the sacrifice to do it. In the chaos & confusion of her attack, Irnk freed himself & wound up aiding her slightly (enough so she was willing to let him go). He then encountered a wandering Paladin of Erastil who took him in & trained him in the Paladin's code (which against anything resembling common sense he took to.) He has since been hanging around the Sandpoint area of Varisia as he still hasn't forgiven Shalelu for saving him. The opportunity to show her up is one he CAN'T resist.
He has the Rescued: Shalelu trait & is currently in an adversarial relationship with almost everyone.

I'm submitting Qualin for this campaign. The profile isn't completely finished, but I can get the rest done quickly enough. Apparently we're celebrating my birthday today, so my plans of laying about all day has been shot to hell and back.

Background wise, I'm thinking Qualin will come from Korvosa, the son of two magic practicioners who really wanted him to join the Acadamae. He probably did the equivalent of one semester and bailed. He likes arcane magic well enough, he's just young and a little light on patience right now. I don't know if Sandru's caravan would have made it to Korvosa, and if not Qualin could have ran into them somewhere else and hired on. I see him and Sandru developing a good friendship, as they both have family issues.

Once in Sandpoint he'd probably develope a bit of a crush on Shalelu and or Ameiko, though obviously not enough for the trait. He's got a thing for armed and independent women.

As far as party roll, I'm going for a switch hitter type, so he can send some missile weapons into the enemies if range permits, and then get up close. Most of his spells are going to be self buffs.

Any questions, feel free, I'll be checking back as often as time permits.

One question I had, was how much gold are we doing?

I'd like to submit Alinza Mardzini, Fortune-teller-in-training for this AP.
(I was going to put it in earlier, but the PF-online snafu started just as I clicked 'reply.')

I took the "Friend of the Family Trait" ... poor Koya wasn't getting any attention.

Background/Description/etc. can all be found in her profile. Thanks for your consideration!

(If you'd like a writing sample, look for itsgottabeodin on Mythweavers.com, or I can furnish one upon request.)

DM Rennick,

I can change Lirrathan to a Ranger or Fighter fairly easily if it makes a difference. His personality/background wouldn't change, and would be pretty much the same character just envisioned with different mechanics.

Ranger would fit him best, but a Fighter would give him the "I'm not like my sister" feel.

Also, the trait for Thaddeus could just as easily be changed to Childhood Crush (Ameiko). He forces himself to suffer through her spicy cooking, just for the chance to be able to see her at the bar. He is still too shy to actually talk to her.

If you want RP styles, just look at any of my aliases, or for this one even some of his older posts to get an idea. If you would like I could link some.

Lirrathan - I'd personally suggest Fighter, just for party stability (And the easier chance of getting to use cool samurai armor) but it's your call. Heck you could multiclass him.

Edit his stats to whichever class you prefer. Lirrathan is accepted.

Thanks to everyone who applied. Depending on if we lose any players I may be looking for more near the end of part 1.

Thank you

I will update him shortly.

Do you have a discussion thread to point me at just yet? Also, I didn't see a starting gold in the char gen above, is it rolled, average, or max?

That's fine, if anything I can switch the trait itself over to best friends with Sandru Vhiski, the situations would probably still be the same.

TRAITS
Rough and Ready (Equipment) Your intense familiarity with the tools of your trade allows you to use them in combat as if they were actual weapons and makes them more effective for that purpose than they would normally be. When you use a tool of your trade (requiring at least 1 rank in the appropriate Craft or Profession skill) as a weapon, you do not take the improvised weapon penalty and instead receive a +1 trait bonus on your attack. This trait is commonly used with shovels, picks, blacksmith hammers, and other sturdy tools — lutes and brooms make terribly fragile weapons.
Best Friend (Sandru) You are best friends with one of the NPCs; you’ve grown up together, and while your friend has had a much more exciting life than you so far, you hope one day to follow in your friend’s footsteps and see the world—or perhaps even become an adventurer yourself. You’ve picked up a lot from Sandru, but particularly his skill in interacting with others. Sandru is your best friend, you gain a +2 trait bonus on Bluff checks and Bluff is always considered a class skill for you. In addition, in situations where Sandru is in danger, you gain a +1 trait bonus on all attack rolls against foes that threaten your friend.

The nice thing about playing on the Paizo board is the Adventure Paths turn up repeatedly. So if I put a lot of work into a character for a game that doesn't happen, it can be shelved and easily retouched for the next opportunity. Therefore let me submit Zangeti Kalderas, half-orc barbarian and ward of Koya Mvashti.

Stats:
Zangeti Kalderas
CG male half-orc Barbarian (Breaker) 1
Str 18, Dex 13, Con 14, Int 10, Wis 13, Cha 12
Alt Racials: Gatecrasher
Traits: Foster Child (Know: Local), Adopted – World Traveler (Diplo)
Feats: Power Attack
Skills: Diplomacy, Intimidate, Know (local), Knowledge (nature), Survival

Background:
Violence left Zangeti without parents when he was still a babe. If violence had also produced him in the first place, Koya Mvashti did not speak. Instead she told him that the bonds of affection were as strong as bonds of blood, and family was something you created by holding close the people you cared about. So she was his mother, and Sandru was his brother, and that was the end of the story.

It was one of many lessons that Koya taught the young half-orc as he grew under her care. She taught him that the world was an immense place filled with wonders. She taught him to value freedom and treat others with respect. She taught him that if some chose to shun him for his orcish blood, they weren't the sort of people he wanted to associate with in the first place. These were not the only things she tried to teach him, but unlike her lectures about the finer points of the healing arts or playing the Varisian pipes these were ones that stuck.

The heritage of his blood was not dismissed simply with words, of course. He grew up quickly compared to a human child, and so very strong. Things meant for delicate hands broke easily under his touch. Excitement brought fits of furious strength followed by an exhausted collapse. But time and patience taught Zangeti a measure of control, or at least the ability to direct his fury as he chose.

Now 16 and a full grown man, Zangeti has started to travel so he might meet some of the many peoples he's heard tales about. Recommendations from Koya and Sandru helped him gain posts with a few caravans in the last year, though he's only gone a little beyond the borders of Varisia so far. Already he's hungry to start roaming further afield. But on his last return home Koya spent less time talking about promising girls of marriageable age and more talking about how she wants to go on a trip of her own. Zangeti is certain that he's not going to let his frail old mother go traveling without being there to protect her.

Profile:
Zangeti, or Zan to his friends, is an impulsive young man with a fierce temper. His motto (because he thinks mottos are cool and spent a week devising one) is “I go where I want and do as I please. If chains hold me down, I'll shatter them. If a wall gets in my way, I'll break through it. That's what being a man is.” Though immature in many ways, he generally means well and is willing to lend a hand to people who need to borrow his strength. As far as he's concerned what he's best at is breaking things, so he tries to find things that need to be broken. His favored god is Cayden Cailen, patron of freedom and good cheer, though he'll also address prayers to Desna for good forture or Calistria for a clever idea.

When given a choice he dresses in bright Varisian colors, mainly orange and blue with touches of red and green. In peaceful circumstances he'll add a long scarf, but when expecting trouble he puts it aside for scale mail and a greataxe. He keeps his hair cut short and sports a scruffy beard he's trying to grow out. So far his Varisian blood has thwarted him. Always quick to smile, the mouth of sharp teeth this displays isn't quite as friendly as he imagines it is.

NPC Relationships:
Koya: As her adopted son, Zan feels a great deal of affection for Koya. He tries to live up to her expectations and make her proud. He does sometimes worry that she's too old and frail to keep traveling for too much longer. But from his perspective, most humans seem weak and fragile. For her part Koya wants Zan to live without suffering from the taint of his birth. Of that dark event, which much brought sadness to old friends, she hasn't spoken to the boy. She'd also like to see grandchildren from her adoptive boys before she dies, and since Sandru never did settle down with that nice Ameiko girl she's set her sights on finding a good match for Zangeti. (Friendly relationship)

Sandru: Sandru is like an older brother to Zan. An older brother that's smarter, more handsome, independently wealthy, and widely popular. Zan can't help but feel like the clumsy idiot child when he stands next to Sandru. It just makes it sting more than Sandru is obviously fond of Zangeti and tries to lend a hand or some good advice whenever they're together. Being in Sandru's shadow is bad enough, but depending on his help on top of that just rankles. Though Zan would never do anything to actually hurt Sandru he'd love to feel like he's better at something than just brute strength. (Competitive relationship)

Ameiko: Zan knows Ameiko as a family friend. She and Sandru would meet up whenever the two were in Sandpoint together, Ameiko joined Koya and Zan for dinner more than once. Zan knows her as someone who tells amazing stories and serves great meals. He's a little disapointed that she and Sandru never got together, he thinks she'd make a great big sister.

Shalelu: The elven warrior always makes Zan a little nervous. She watches everything around her like she's on guard for danger. He heard once about how she helped fight off orcish raiders back before he was born, and is a little afraid she might see him as one of those dangers.
