Working Knowledge (EX): The artisan must pick a certain type of item

Swift Craft (Ex): At 3rd level, an artisan can craft items with astounding speed. It takes an artisan half the normal amount of time to craft items.

Masterpiece (EX): You can craft a masterwork item from exotic materials. Treat the Item as a masterwork version of the same item except that it has one unique quality that identifys it as a one an only(such as a fenessable light shield). Once distroyed it can't be repared. At 8th level you craft a magic item of at least 8,000 gp ignoring the normal prerequesets. This increases every four levels there after.

fortuitousness (SP): You gain the following spell-like abilities: 2/day—light, prestidigitation, open/close, read magic, mending, spark. The caster level for these effects is equal to the artisans level. The DC for these spells is equal to 10 + the spell's level + the artisans intelligence modifier. These abilities can manifest themselves and mere serendipity.

Trademark (EX): You've develped a unique style and people who know your work get a +5 on any approprate check to identify. Your trademark can mannafest itself however you wish esteticly including a magical glow but contains no additional bonus. A masterwork item may contain a small bonus at GM discression.

perfectionists (EX):An artisan may voluntarily subtract 10 from the indicated DC to craft an item. This allows the artisan to create the item slower. In addition If an artisan fail by 1 or more, she ruins half the raw materials and has to pay half the original raw material cost again. This represents distroying the work in a fit of rage.

Fineart (EX): Althought you find your creations are most beautiful then uses by a one skilled in its use. Some are willing to pay to hang them on there walls. Your work can sell the twice it's normal price.

Focased Craft(EX): Chose one item(such as a longsword) when crafting that Item you add you class levels to the check.

Instant Craft (Ex): At 18th level, an artisan can craft items with almost supernatural speed. She can craft any item she is trained in as a full-round action if he succeeds at the Craft check and has the appropriate resources at hand to fund the creation.

I did a lot of cut and past and I didn't finish it but I thought maybe I could lighten my workload by posting it here.

Cool idea.

No idea what all them squigglies mean but cool idea.

I think I get the idea but I like it as a PC..

Basically Mcgiver right?

The ability to craft a bazooka out of a paperclip and a rubber band?

Thisismynextcharacter.

Do you mean the underscores I put to separate the BAB and saves and such?

I wasn't thinking Mcgiver although I could see it being used that way.

I was more thinking like The crafter of the "RED VIOLIN" or the the blacksmith who has a special prized weapon that he won't sell. Like "Hattori Hanzo" from kill bill.

Basically there has to be someone who makes those cool items at the back of the book and it's silly to assume that there all done by PC classes who aren't really designed for making items.

I also think there needs to be and NPC class for knowledge skills "An acidemic"

and an NPC class for the profession skills.
and an NPC class for the rest of the skills.

A king might be skilled in Diplomacy with a focus in talking to crowds but perhaps not for talking with his family. Like "The Lion in Winter."

An NPC should be as good at doing a particular skill as a fighter is good at using a particular weapon.

is there a point to perfectionist?

I'll admit that it might not be thought out completely... The idea was that they could make something with a high DC it would just take them a lot longer because they were taking there time.

If mathematically it's irrelevant then I suppose it should be removed or replaced. Otherwise I think it adds a bit of flavor.

Do you have any suggestions?

(...snip)

An NPC should be as good at doing a particular skill as a fighter is good at using a particular weapon.

I'd say the following three classes would cover it.

Commoner. Someone who works with their hands. Examples: Farmer, fisherman, sailor, dock worker, bar maid, streetwalker. Obviously Commoners have some knowledge but it's centered on hard, physical labor.

Craftsman. Someone who produces goods. Examples: Carpenter, tailor, tinker, smith, armorer. Again, it requires knowledge, but that knowledge produces a practical item for sale.

Artisan. Someone who makes a living from knowledge and if they produce a product, it is based on knowledge. Examples: Scholar, historian, poet, musician, artist, author, courtesan. A merchant or common con artist might fit in here (assuming they weren't Rogues).

Keep the Warrior (I would call it "Soldier"). You could argue what job fits in what category.

I've messed with this before, but never been wholly happy with it. It's just a break down of the Expert NPC class into two classes (maybe three if you seperate Merchant as well). In the end I haven't found it worth the work without making major changes to crafting. I would want PC crafting to be more difficult with the need to involve NPC Craftsman in it if you're making magic items...
