Brawler archetype.

Advice

I was thinking of going the brawler archetype for my

Sword and board fighter, for the extra damage with the shild, and the free stand still feat.

Does anyone have any experience with this archtype.

I'm thinking of tacking on 3 levels of brawler when my PFS ranger gets to level 6 (The ranger mostly just two-hand shield bashes). But that won't be for a long time yet (still only level 2).

If a sword is your main weapon, I'm not sure how useful the extra damage to the shield (or other close weapon) will be for you as it's pretty situational unless you're dedicated on upping your DPR with Two-Weapon Fighting but that's quite a bit of feats and expensive Dex requirement. If you aren't going TWF, maybe pick default fighter or another archetype with your weapon training 1 being heavy blades, and weapon training 2 being close weapons.

If/when I go brawler (with or without ranger levels to get Shield Master sooner), I'd rather just two-hand a heavy shield with power attack.

I am a dedicated TWF, with a shield bash,

str 18
dex 16
con 14
int 7
wis 13
cha 8

Level 1: Two-Weapon Fighting, Improved Shield Bash
Level 2: step up
Level 3: Power attack
Level 4: combat reflexes. (+1 dex)
Level 5: Double Slice
Level 6: Improved Two-Weapon Fighting
Level 7: Shield Slam
Level 8: Improved Bull Rush (+1 STR)
Level 9: Greater Bull Rush
Level 10: following step
Level 11: Shield Master
Level 12: weapon focus ( ax) (+1 STR)
Level 13: Two-Weapon Rend
Level 14: step up and strike

Only at lvl 3 ATM I have it built out to 14, It seemed like a signifigant damge boost.

I am planning a brawler fighter with a shield for an upcoming game. I plan on going captain america style and using a heavy spiked shield as his main hand weapon and a cestus for his offhand weapon (using that hand free for holding torches or whatever as well).

Here are the feats I have mapped out through 13th level:

1 Improved Shield Bash
1 Two Weapon Fighting
1 Improved Unarmed Combat
2 Double Slice
3 Power Attack
4 Improved Bull Rush
5 Spiked Destroyer
6 Shield Slam
7 Greater Bull Rush
8 Improved Two-Weapon Fighting
9 Combat Reflexes
10 Stand Still
11 Shield Master
12 Two-Weapon Rend
13 Bashing Finish

Everything gels at 6th level with shield slam. You get two shield attacks, each giving you a bull rush attempt and an off hand cestus swing. If you successfully bull rush a target you also trigger a free attack with your armor spikes as a swift action for another attack in the round.

Your cestus, heavy shield, and armor spikes all also fall into the close weapon category so this guy ends up being a beast with a lot of battlefield control and good ability to keep shoving people away from squishy allies.

Silver Crusade

Sorry to seem a Noob, where does one find the spiked gear, I have searched though my books, I like the shield idea like Capt America, but can't find the spiked equipment.
Also, anyone responding, farmilier with herolabs PF hero build? how does one make a shield spike in that?

Shadow Lodge

In the Core RuleBook's weapons table, Armor Spikes and Shield Spikes are both listed in the "Martial Weapons" table.

If you're wanting to build Cap America, then you want the Brawler with the Shield Champion archetype.
