Yeah, that's a given. The title and the scenes of the Mane 6 in costumes from the promo trailers scream it's a Nightmare Night themed episode, so delaying it till Oct 31 makes sense.
Yeah it's going to air right after a Hearthswarming episode, but I think at this point they're going to just keep going with s5 till it's done. And it's probably going to end before Christmas comes around considering October's schedule. (Not like they can't re-air "Hearthbreakers" with "Hearthswarming Eve" at Christmas time.)

This is going to be awesome.

Teaser for "Rarity Investigates."

Rarity Investigates:
Was not expecting to see Canterlot Carousel or Sassy Saddles again so soon. So much for the people who were spouting off that we would never really see the Canterlot boutique again. Also looks like Sassy is going to be a recurring minor character, not a one-shot.
Also, now I think I know what Rainbow is going to be accused of. One of the Wonderbolts is going to get hurt, giving her the chance to perform... but someone's going to produce evidence that Dash apparently caused the injury. Who would frame Rainbow and why? (Hopefully it's not Soarin that gets hurt this time.)

Well at least it is a Rarity episode that is not focused on fashion.

Friendship Games soundtrack released today! I caved and bought it. I think I'm more hyped than ever, because it's actually pretty good. Kind of a given since it includes "My Past is Not Today" (Yeah, they added the three songs from the bonus Rainbow Rocks shorts.)

Soundtrack spoilers:
Though... "Unleash the Magic" ends with what sounds like Spike yelling "Twilight, NO!" I think puppy!Spike is going to get the ability to speak. Possibly a result of alt!Twilight's experimenting with magic? Would parallel what Princess Twilight did. Also, I think it revealed the voice of the real villain who's pressuring/manipulating Twilight.

After "What More is Out There" and "Unleash the Magic"... I'm really feeling bad for alt!Twilight. She's clearly had it rough. She may be an antagonist, but she's no villain. She may be a little drunk on dark magic for a spell, but I think she'll be redeemed in the end.

Except for the 2015 convention collection, I have all the albums on iTunes. Any word on when the Friendship Games album shows up there?

Edit: Found it. The other albums are listed under "Daniel Ingram". This one is "various artists".

More Friendship Game speculation:
Shout Factory released some clips from the movie, including part of "What More is Out There?" I really want to give Twilight a hug. The video makes it even sadder. She really does want someone to be her friend... I think the Shadowbolts and Principal Cinch going to use that and her curiosity against her. No wonder she's going to take on a monster form when she unleashes the amulet. Broken hearts and magic never mix well.

Does anyone here follow the comics? Because Holy Buy-Some-Apples, did it just get epic!!

It's the start of a multi-issue plot, so not that many spoilers. The latest issue is #34, so this will likely go on to #36 or it might be a five-issue story arc to #38 (completely unsubstantiated guesswork there, I know, but maybe my hopes will pan out). So while I'm not revealing too much, if you do follow the comics but haven't read #34, consider yourself warned.

Spoiler:
A few months ago, they did a five week special following the origin stories of several villains (Sombra, Nightmare Moon, Chrysalis, the Dazzlings, and Tirek). At the time, they were presented really as just interesting filler, expanding the history of the world of Equestria. And considering that in every case, the events happened centuries ago, you wouldn't expect any of them to pertain to modern events.

Nope.

The Flim-Flam brothers, Lightning Dust, Iron Will, and Chrysalis and her army of changelings invade the Crystal Empire! As a diversion! So that Sombra's fillyfriend from a thousand years ago could resurrect him!

Don't get me wrong. As far as the show goes, Sombra's my least favorite villain simply because I found him and his motivations to be boring. But in the comics?

Best. Villain. Ever! (Arguably. Chrysalis gets a good showing in the comics, as well.)

The arc starting with #34 is a four part arc. Haven't read it yet, I wait for two months to build up at a time since I buy my physical copies online.

Wow, this is an old thread.

I looked into the show a couple years ago when Paizocon was next door to Everfree. I was surprised that I liked it. Now it's a nice pick-me-up on a crummy day. :)

Clip for "Made in Manehatten."

Tomorrow's episode will be fun, but I'm really looking forward to Friendship Games. (More Sunset! Funny how much I love her now, considering before Rainbow Rocks I didn't care.)

For me, it was because EG only presented her as the villain of the week (movie, but you know what I mean). No prior backstory, and she only existed in that movie as an antagonist. I kind of placed her at the same level as Sombra.

Rainbow Rocks turned her around, and watching EG and RR as a whole really changes how she's presented (in both films). She became a flawed hero character, traveling on a journey with experiences to be shared, rather than a one-shot character to be observed and dismissed.

Gotta love Puerto Rican ponies.

Rest of the season 5 titles and synopses leaked via Netflix bug.

Containing all my speculation in spoiler boxes.

What About Discord?:
I'm anticipating this one to be a good comedy episode. I have no doubt Discord is plotting something, but I suspect Twilight is going to blow it out of proportion.

The Hooffields and McColts:
Everyone thought this would be an Applejack episode, but nope. It's Twilight and Fluttershy's map episode. I am so thrilled that Twilight didn't get excluded till the finale.

The Mane Attraction:
Mostly looking forward to this for that gorgeous song. Interesting to learn that the performer is a member of the Apple clan... no wonder AJ was crying in the animatic.

Friendship Games stinger/S5 finale spoiler:
Certainly explains Twilight's comment about being caught in a time loop and the "second strangest thing she's ever seen." No wonder Sunset couldn't reach her before the portal got drained. Twilight was too busy dealing with Starlight Glimmer.
I know the S5 finale currently titled "The Cutie Map" but since they used that for the premiere that is probably going to be changed.

Also? Friendship Games was pretty darn good. Rainbow Rocks is still better, but I'm still looking forward to more in the series. (I see the EqG 'verse seems to be continuing on into becoming a magical girl 'verse.)

Friendship Games:

Totally called that alt!Spike would become able to speak. Uplifting puppy!Spike to match his counterpart was key to saving Twilight. Also sets up lots of fun for the future, since they now have their cute talking animal for a mascot.
For all the movie's flaws... Midnight Sparkle was pretty freaking scary. Tearing her world apart just to cross into Equestria?
Daydream Shimmer was absolutely beautiful. I think somebody may actually be on her way to becoming an alicorn after all, she just took a long detour. I really think she'd get on well with Princess Luna at this point. Did anyone else catch that right before she picked up the amulet... her eyes sparkled like Twilight's did in the pilot?
That scene where Sunset talks Midnight down was so beautiful. (Both in animation and emotion.) I think it speaks volumes that Twilight didn't need to be blasted into a crater to stop.

Sorry for the massive post, lots I wanted to talk about.

I can't wait for What about Discord, The Hooffields and McColts, and season finale.

I really liked the designs for Sunset and Twilight's final forms in EQ3.

Brotherhooves Social clip.

There are no words that can do that clip justice.

Brotherhooves Social:
This episode is going to be pretty funny, and sweet. How many guys would do that for their sister? And props to Peter New for being able to do such a convincing female voice.

Brotherhooves Social:
Well, that episode was fun... and then the ending hits. That was incredibly sweet, and some much needed development for Big Mac. I do hope they let him speak a little more in the future. He was kind of getting stale with only being allowed two words. Also, Peter New must have had all sorts of fun recording this. Both as "Orchard Blossom" and Big Mac. Incredible props that he was able to still sing like that.

Equestria Girls 4 confirmed. That's going to make some people happy... and some are going to rage.

I read the same thing and the forth movie mentioned could be about the actual MLP movie, not EG.

best episode ever.

If you slept through this morning's episode(Crusaders of the Lost Mark) ... watch it as soon as possible. The fanbase is going to be flipping over this episode (in a good way.)

Crusaders of the Lost Mark:
I am still in tears. I am so proud of the CMC today. I was expecting an episode with giving Diamond some characterization.... was not expecting full-on redemption episode. I always knew she wasn't the lost cause some people wanted to paint her.
I adore the fact the CMC have linked cutie marks. (And confirmed on why the poster had them hidden.) I suspect their next step will be helping AJ and Apple Bloom with their cousin ("The Mane Attraction") to be the pony she wants to be... Just like Diamond Tiara.

Yeah, I also liked todays episode and yes that was unexpected character development.

Confirmed. This is a Wham Episode, one of the hinges on which this entire series will turn.

Spoiler:
After much searching and many trials, they finally have their cutie marks. And though we're five seasons in, what the CMC finally got and what those marks represent is so much a better choice than the flip-flopped talents they exhibited back in the talent show in season one (which, I admit, I thought was the direction they were eventually going to go in at the time; I underestimated how central these characters were, oops).

It's also satisfying to see a change in Diamond Tiara. I knew they were never going to get away with having her be a villain bully character forever. That's just lazy writing, and this show as a whole does not suffer from that. But would she be fazed out or redeemed? Now we know.

I find myself hoping she doesn't do a complete 180. I like Discord as a redeemed villain because he still sometimes messes up and deliberately pursues the wrong thing to do. It makes the steps he takes to become a better person more valuable. So I hope they don't just move DT from the villain pile to the friends pile and then forget where she came from.

Also, props for the CMC's lung control. It's not everypony who can sing so steadily during a chase scene.

Adventure Path Charter Subscriber; Pathfinder Starfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

What an incredible episode! This is one of the watershed moments for the series.

Crusaders of the Lost Mark....I only have two things to say. First it was a good episode and second ...well this sums it up

Yeah, this is one of those episodes that we're going to be talking about for quite some time.

Crusaders of the Lost Mark:
I've seen it pointed out elsewhere that there is a certain beauty in the events. Diamond Tiara the bully brought them together. Helping Diamond Tiara the hurting kid got them their cutie marks. I figure Diamond is going to struggle with who she was versus who she wants to be. This was the start of a new chapter for her, not the end of her story.
Seeing Diamond smile with such a genuine pure joy during her reprise made my heart really melt during the second viewing. I think I'm going to continue being a puddle of happy tears for the next couple of days.

Finally got Friendship Games on DVD and watched the deleted/alternate scenes. They revolve around Sunset mulling over whether to stay in the human world or go back to Equestria. The writers ultimately went a different path and I overall agree that it turned out better/more cohesive.

But they also had to lose the duet! Oh, that wonderful duet! I wish they'd found some way to keep it. Alas!

Maybe they are saving the "Sunset Shimmer is thinking of going home" plot for the next one.

Yeah, the duet version of "What More is Out There" is better... but I ultimately understand why it was cut. There was just no room for a subplot related to homesick!Sunset. I also infinitely prefer the ending we got with alt!Twilight transferring to CHS. If they'd shipped her back to Crystal Prep, that likely would have been the last we saw of her. (What? I think they can do some fun things with this Twilight that the main universe Twilight has grown beyond.)

On "Dance Magic" I'm torn between thinking it was for a short that didn't get made or if it was supposed to be in the movie during the dance scene or for yet another alternate ending.

Alt!Twilight transferring to CHS. Honestly, I initially didn't know what to think about it. CPA is a school that really needs the magic of friendship. And though we see some fledgling signs of change for the better in some of Twilight's CPA classmates, her not going back rubbed me the wrong way, like the CPA students were being left to their own devices, come what may. Seeing the last alternate scene where she goes back seemed like a better ending.

At first. Then I realized that Alt!Twilight, for now at least, just doesn't have it in her to be the force for change that that school needs. It's a cliche, but she truly needs time away from them to work on herself. As TaliaKirana says, Alt!Twilight just isn't where Mane!Twilight is. Definitely not in terms of being a leader and espousing friendship. Her relationships with everyone at CPA were nothing but toxic, and she needed to run, not walk, away.

Maybe Apple Bloom has a cousin who goes to CPA that will be the "in" for CHS's magic of friendship.

Did anyone else think that "My Past is not Today" should have been a post-FG short, rather than a Rainbow Rocks short? It's really just the jacket, but it seemed like that symbolism would have worked better had it been after FG. Sunset wore the jacket back when she was manipulative, and even after she switched to the light blue dress, it seemed like her retaining the jacket was the last vestige of her guilt over her former actions. Her discarding of the jacket just doesn't have the same impact for me when she goes right back to wearing it at the beginning of FG. It just seemed weird to me.

I think they are just setting up EQ so they don't have to have anyone from Equestria. In fact there is a chance that the EQ version of Sunset Shimmer will come in and replace the current version so she can finally go home and maybe just maybe be added to the main cast of MLP.

I don't know if they'd do that. Remember, some people still don't want anything that even vaguely smells of Equestria Girls in the main show. (Remember all the uproar about pony!Flash's cameos last season?) I'd love to see Sunset drop in for an episode, but I don't really believe it'll happen.

Well unless Sunset Shimmer's double is dead then I think there is a good chance she will come into MLP. Besides Sunset Shimmer's element could be a needed one for friendship...forgiveness.

Apparently the only teaser we're getting is an old screenshot (from "The Cutie Pox") of a nervous Pinkie Pie. I think the MLP facebook is being sneaky again. Last week, they posted "Hearts Strong as Horses" for a teaser. (Which, considering the song's theme fit last week's episode.)

Is it just me, or has this been not only a season heavy on continuity but full of major character developments?

The One Where Pinkie Pie Knows and Finale musings:
I'm pretty sure the secret Pinkie is going to learn is Princess Cadance is pregnant.

I think they're setting up all this development, so when Starlight meddles with the past... it's really gonna pack an emotional hit to see that all undone. No Rainboom, no uber magic surge for Twilight. So, she never becomes Celestia's student. Shining and Cadance never meet. The rest of the Mane 6 will also be scattered. AJ likely stays in Manehatten. Pinkie never leaves the rock farm. Rainbow and Fluttershy remain in Cloudsdale. Rarity is still in Ponyville, but who knows what she's doing? The Crusaders likely aren't best friends.
I just wonder what Starlight's endgame in doing this is? Does she just want to wreck their lives as petty revenge for stopping her? Or is she going to try and make herself the hero in their place?

I just hope that starlight's meddling with time actually creates the real villain of Season 5...Midnight Sparkle!!!

Spoilered because it's all wild speculation based on what you spoilered.

Spoiler:
Wait. You mean Twilight's line in FG about time-travel craziness wasn't just a throwaway line? Well now I have to speculate like crazy.

Why doesn't the human world experience any of this? My guess is that either the portal just in general is able to protect either world from temporal effects emanating from the other...

Or, and I think this more likely, all the temporal shenanigans began (and finished happened) in between the time Alt!Twilight stole the portal's magic and when Daydream Shimmer restored the Human world's magic to normal. And like the temporal wake from the Borg sphere in Star Trek First Contact protecting the Enterprise-E, the portal's closure protected the Human world from the changes in the timeline.

If you're right about Starlight Glimmer going back in time and undoing the Rainboom, then I wonder how it'll turn out. I can't imagine it going well for her for too long.

Just hitting the early highlights in order:

Nightmare Moon
Sunset is gone by this point, and with no outpouring of magic, Twilight isn't Celestia's second protege. Who was her next choice? Would her next choice have stumbled across the legend of the Mare in the Moon?

How does Starlight handle Nightmare? She managed to neutralize Twilight, so theoretically, Starlight could take Nightmare's cutie mark. But when Celestia comes back, I can't imagine her taking that sort of violation of her beloved-though-estranged sister in stride. Either she puts an end to Starlight's scheme right then, or Starlight takes Celestia's cutie mark and the people rise up against her in response.

Discord
Would the CMC have gone on that field trip and still woken Discord up? Would he find another way to wake up? He pursued his own sense of fun and foisted chaos on everypony he could. Everypony being miserable due to Starlight's new workd order might entertain him briefly, but I can't imagine him leaving Starlight's highly ordered regime alone. And he has no cutie mark for her to steal. How would she be able to handle him?

Queen Chrysalis
Chrysalis needs ponies to feel love so she can steal it for herself and her subjects. Starlight's new world order, assuming it lasts to this point, would make a lovely distraction and keep everypony from suspecting her own plot. I think Chrysalis would do everything in her power to help Starlight out.

Really crazy conspiracy theory
We've never seen Chrysalis and Starlight at the same time. How do we know that Starlight isn't Chrysalis in disguise? The whole equality thing from the season 5 premiere could have just been a plot to draw the Mane Six out in order to beat them on her terf. Not to mention, if everypony acts the same, it's much easier for her Changeling subjects to pass themselves off as real ponies. Chrysalis could be pulling a Borg sphere here, using time travel to eliminate the obstacles to her domination of Equestria, and the guise of "Starlight Glimmer" to throw everypony off her scent.

Slightly less crazy conspiracy theory
The Doctor plays a significant role in keeping Equestria from getting all wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey.

Zap2It posted the title and synopsis for the finale.Confirms the Netflix leak. No date given, yet. I kind of hope they'll skip Thanksgiving weekend (since so many will be out of town) and air it the first weekend of December instead.

Heh, loved the shout-outs from Fluttershy's first attempt at a spooky tea party. Who was in the middle? I recognized Sailor Moon, Rei Ayanami, Bulma, and Ranma, but who was the middle supoosed to be?

Also, Rainbow Dash's costume raises questions. Since when does Equestria have a space program?

I forgot it came on today but luckily I saw it when it was leaked online.

I think the other one was Utena from Revolutionary Girl Utena.

As far as RD's costume we had space explorer stories before we had space programs, maybe the same for them.

True, but then you have to wonder about what would motivate ponies to go to the moon.

Luna's redemption is still a recent event in Equestria, so prior to Nightmare Moon being defeated, wouldn't any aspiring pony space explorers be making their first stop at the prison world of one of their most fearsome figures? Heck, Nightmare Moon was basically Cthulhu.

Heh. Which would make their future space program basically a cult devoted to visiting/freeing a Great Old One so she could destroy the world (well, the day, anyway). I love this show!

Season 5 finale airs November 28th.

Also, some additional news that I'm going to spoiler:

Potentially major finale spoilers:
Chapter book coming (August 2016) for Starlight Glimmer, with the synopsis calling her "one of Princess Twilight's most notorious students." Sounds like a redemption will be occurring in the finale. Given that time travel shenanigans are basically confirmed at this point... I bet we'll see what event set Starlight on her twisted path and warped her worldview against cutie marks.

The author responded with "Don't believe everything on the Internet," but that just smells of the denials the staff gave when stuff about alicorn Twilight started leaking during s3. Plus we know there's another Starlight toy coming in the next toyline (Explore Equestria), so that kind of points to her sticking around.

I can't wait for the "what about discord" episode.

Teaser for this weekend's episode.

I think this one's going to be hilarious.

Discord's episodes are always hilarious to me.

Okay, the Christmas album "It's a Pony Kind of Christmas" just became available for the US. I'm still listening, but I appreciate that all of the songs have some customization. (Rainbow's version of Jingle Bells is rather funny. Fluttershy's rendition of Silent Night is lovely. Pinkie's Twelve Days of Christmas is just silly.) Can't wait till I get to the last song, which is a full version of "The Heart Carol" from "Hearth's Warming Eve."

So apparently, ten minutes into the episode, the little bit of purple hair and the binoculars sticking out of a bush are supposed to be Starlight spying on the Mane Six, presumably learning more about them so she can better enact her plan to change history. Which raises the question:

How many other S5 episodes has she done this in before we saw her here?

She was also in amending fences hiding behind a menu in the restaurant scene.

Even more worrying, I wonder if this is where Starlight gets the idea to time travel in the first place. Considering this is the scene where Twilight mentions it not being a good idea in response to Pinkie. Starlight probably thinks she's better than Twilight, and so dares do what even an alicorn princess thinks is a bad idea. Also wondering if she'll be sneaking around in the background of next weekend's episode since it's a Twilight episode too. (That seems to be what this ep and "Amending Fences" have in common.)

Finale ponderings:
Something tells me Starlight's plan is going to both succeed (she'll prevent the Rainboom) and then bite her in the flank. If Nightmare Moon wins, they'll find themselves in an endless night. If Celestia forces herself to fight again, even if Celestia wins she's lost. Her sister is banished again in the best case. Worst case, she's forced to destroy NMM. Both cases could lead to Celestia going Nightmare herself from the grief and loss. (And that's just the first couple of bad ends I can imagine from the Mane 6 not meeting up.)

Well I hope that this is wildly inaccurate.

I'm just hoping it's talking about whatever episode he just finished recording. Maybe they'll do another split season like with 5. Start it in spring, then break for couple of months and resume in fall. I really don't want another year-long hiatus.
