Roleplaying Clubs

Gamer Connection

I'm in Southern Europe at the moment and I discovered a pnp club near my house. You pay by the hour to use their facilities and GMs...

During my Uni years in the UK I either played with friends,at the hobby store or with the university club, and off course I never had to pay..

I was wondering has anyone encountered a club like this? How does it work in the US? (I remember Neutral Grounds and you didnt pay there as well)

In Little Rock, Arkansas USA there was a place that did this for gaming, D&D, other role play, big on Magic the Gathering and Pokemon, I forgot the name of the store (gone now) also gone now there was a smaller one in Bryant, Ar near there called Daily Planet that did the same (gone also) at one point they had online gaming computers (Alien ware before the buyout) where you pay to play online! (that part went out early on) and they sold books and cards also! (never went into Little Rock one, was closed they day I was in the big city and wanted to stop in to see, I was too early (before hours opened like 2pm or something) and had to be elsewhere!

I've seen a game being played in Books a million and barnes and nobles cafe's before, don't think they where paying, but I'm sure a few books where bought there!

There is at least one pay to play club I've heard of in Portland, OR...but most of the game stores here have space for free gaming. One of the best, Guardian, has a huge play space, refreshments (for purchase), and even an over-21 section in the back where you can buy beer. Not sure I'd rent access to a club by the hour...though I might consider a monthly/annual membership for a nice space with accessories.

Εxactly, I'm with you on the membership thing

BTW, I should add that I'd consider that membership only *if* one of my group's members didn't have a very awesome 10'x20' gameroom already. We're luckier than most, however, so I can see the appeal of a club...if we were playing at my dining room table I'd definitely go for it.

I'm on rent at the moment but when I get a place of my own I can see me creating a game room

But to decide on such matters I need a game group first ;p

Since my old one is disbanded and all the other players in my life right now are all talk and no play...I can see me checking this place out

When that time comes my friend, you should have your gaming table covered in pool-table style felt - for a nice soft feel and gentle rolling - and give it a 1 inch high rim around the edge to keep dice and stuff on it :)

:] a fellow geek connoisseur?

I am the president of a college chapter of The Organization of Gamers & Roleplaying Enthusiasts, O.G.R.E.s. The club is a national club that is always looking to expand. All you have to do is contact them. I know it isn't a place to play, but it is a good way to get people to come around if you can form a club and do a little advertising, by word of mouth at a store if nothing else. I will admit having an official club on campus means we can reserve conference rooms for our games.
