Disable Device Trait?

Advice

Is there a trait that makes Disable Device a class skill?

I have been searching through the list, but there are a lot of traits to go through.

Thanks

also Gold Finger from the Qadira faction traits gives slightly more, with a +1 in both DD and Slight of Hand (and one is a Class skill).

I have a fighter that is better at Disable Device than all the Rogue of his level I have met. (He's Qadiran with the Gold Finget trait and a high dex and Masterwork Thieves tools).

I actually have a problem with that Trait, as written. It is more powerful then a Feat. Traits are supposed to be sort of half feats, and this one gives an effective +4 skill bonus.

Good grief, what was Paizo thinking with Gold Finger? +5 skill points using one trait???

Is it me, or did Paizo take traits to too high a level?

Now that I'm looking closer at the Traits, their first design consideration was that traits were effectively Half-Feats. There is even a feat that can be taken to gain two traits. But most of the skill buff 'traits' are better then Feats, where as feats get +3 to a skill, and the traits effectively give a +4 to a skill, which then can be feated up to another +3.

However, there probably isn't a better use of a feat then to gain 2 +4 skill traits.

You could also just nab the Trap Finder trait, and along with Disable Device as a class skill, be able to disable magic traps.

IMO they are fine.

Getting it as a class skill is fine, since it let's you use it even though you play a class that ordinarily can't do it well.

I doesn't really compare to the skill feats, given you +6 or 2*+4 at level 10, which really boosts the skills you already are good at.

On top of this, traits are limited by their categories.

Uh...have you looked at the Cosmopolitan Feat? It grants two languages and two class skills, so +8 in skills by your reading. So...yeah, +4 to +5 is reasonable for a Trait using that scale.

You may be confused because Skill Focus only gives a +3 (+6 at high levels)...but that can go on top of the Class Skill Bonus, which is all Traits give. Being able to get a higher total modifier is worth quite a bit.

I could see the traits as giving a (+1 general/+2 limited/+3 specific) _or_ being taken as a class skill, but not really both at the same time.

The OP didn't ask it but I am curious if this feat is available in PFS?

It is a trait, not a feat.

Find it here.

My bad. What about PFS?

Grand Lodge

Far as I know, no.

The trait was reprinted in People of the Sand, not sure if that makes it more available for PFS or not. I try to stay away from that thing.

Wisdom in the Flesh lets you choose a Str/Dex/Con Skill and makes it a Class Skill that uses wisdom. It's a Religion (Iomedea) trait.

*EDIT* I think it's Irori not Iomedea

Campaign traits aren't available to PFS to my knowledge but since there isn't PFS in my country i am not sure on the ruling.

Wisdom in the Flesh is indeed an Irori trait (Ultimate Campaign).

There's also Nimble Fingers, Keen Mind if you happen to worship Brigh (Faiths of Balance).

Both are listed as legit in the Additional Resources document, as is Vagabond Child from Ultimate Campaign.

According to Tips and Traits: A guide to Pathfinder Traits, the following are available:

Quote:

Name : Category : Bonus : Flat/Narrow : Additional

Vagabond Child : Regional : +1 : Flat
Nimble Fingers, Keen Mind : Regional : +1 : Flat
Wisdom in the Flesh : Religion : +0 : None : Use Wisdom instead of Dex

Best of the Best: Wisdom in the Flesh - Really all 3 are fine. I gave the win to Wisdom in the Flesh for using your wisdom instead of dex. Of course this is a negative if your a Dex heavy character.

And this is what it sais about them. [Link to SRD added]

Vagabond Child (Urban) - Choose: Disable Device, Escape Artist, or Sleight of Hand. You gain a +1 bonus on that skill, and it becomes a class skill. Smaller bonus and rarely used skills. But if you really want the skill here you go.

Nimble Fingers, Keen Mind (Brigh) - +1 bonus on Disable Device, and it becomes a class skill. If you want Disable Device in class here is your trait.

Wisdom in the Flesh (Irori) - Select any Strength, Constitution(None), or Dexterity -based skill. You make checks with that skill using your Wisdom modifier instead of its normal ability score. That skill becomes a class skill. Here is a list of the skills you can choose from: Climb, Swim, Acrobatics, Disable Device, Escape Artist, Fly, Ride, Sleight of Hand, and Stealth. If you're a wisdom based character but really want to excel at one of these skills this is a good idea. On top of it all you get the skill in class. Great stuff. Note: This is the only trait that gives Fly in class.

Just saw that this was a necroed thread. :-)

For a while now campaign traits have been printed in the book that accompanies the AP associated with it in the back. The back section of people of the sands is the players guide to mummy's mask and trap finder is listed there as a campaign trait.

Heh, you think that is bad have a look at Student of Philosophy. It is currently giving my sage sorcerer an effective +10 bonus to the only things I ever use either Bluff or Diplomacy for.

Alternatively look at Irrepressible. That is giving my Oracle an effective 10 point boost to the most common Will saves.

Both are far more potent than any equivalent feat.

As Mr. Ed knows, the best thing about Cosmopolitan is the designers left off the prerequisite for Intelligence 3 or more.
