Temp Hitpoints and negative hipoints.

Rules Questions

Can the application of temporary hitpoints bring someone back to consciousness if they are at negative hitpoints.

For instance Greg the fighter gets hits and goes to -3 hitpoints. He is disabled and dying. On Gary the Experts turn he gives Greg 5 temporary hitpoints (somehow). Does Greg bocome conscious and ready to fight, or is he still technically disabled, but with less chance of dying from another blow?

Grand Lodge

"These hit points are in addition to the character's current hit point total"

Greg's current hit point total is still negative, so he is still dying.

"Healing that raises the dying character's hit points to 0 makes him conscious and disabled. Healing that raises his hit points to 1 or more makes him fully functional again"

Temporary hit points are probably not healing. If the GM decides that they are, Greg becomes conscious and not disabled.

"any damage taken by the character is subtracted from these hit points first"

When he loses 1 hit point a round due to dying, this damage comes off his temporary hit points.

It's helpful, but doesn't make him able to fight, certainly not for more than a couple of rounds.

This also means that a character casting virtue every round can prevent Greg from dying until someone better able to stabilise him arrives, or as a backup against possible failed Heal checks.
