The Slippers of Spider Climbing would seem to suggest that yes, you do. However, if you really need to climb and fight, you can play a Witch with the Prehensile Hair hex or an Alchemist with the Vestigial Arm discovery. Or invest in a wand of Fly.

But, slippers of spider climbing specifically say they leave your hands free.
Having a climb speed really only gives you the option to take 10 on climb checks even in combat. Beyond that, it depends on what is giving you the climb speed.
My bad. To clarify, I was saying that you probably need your hands normally, otherwise why would they make a magic item whose only function is to get around that requirement?
Looking again at the spell Spider Climb, it specifically requires that you have your hands free in order to use the climb speed it grants. Why the item doesn't, I don't know.

I would have to ask what is giving you climb as well.
A monkey would probably need his hands.
A snake, not so much.
And people wonder what a BS in Evolutionary Anthropology is good for:
some non-human primates are quadrumanous, fancy word for "four-handed." Orangutans are well-known for quadrumanous locomotion. Any limb they can bring to bear is about as useful to them as an arm is to us.Velcro Zipper |
Stuff from the Climb skill description:
* You need both hands free to climb, but you may cling to a wall with one hand while you cast a spell or take some other action that requires only one hand.
* A creature with a climb speed has a +8 racial bonus on all Climb checks. The creature must make a Climb check to climb any wall or slope with a DC higher than 0, but it can always choose to take 10, even if rushed or threatened while climbing.
Because of this, I've always ruled you need both hands (or claws or flippers or whatever) free to move about while climbing (unless, like the Slippers, an effect specifically states your hands are free.) You can still stop along your way to use one hand for casting a spell, throwing an easily accessed weapon, etc., but you need both hands free to begin moving again.
A creature with a Climb speed still makes checks, but you can almost assume it automatically passes anything with a DC below 19 because it can take 10 on its check and has a +8 bonus for a minimum of 18 if it's got no other mods. However, circumstantial conditions like fatigue or weather-related penalties might, of course, make an ordinarily simple check difficult for even a natural climber.
It would help to know the specifics of your climbing ability, Waffle, since a GM might allow a creature like a Grippli or a Choker to move around so long as it has at least three points of contact.
