Female Changeling - Osirion Cleric 4/Oracle 3

I've been trying to update my character profile as well but Paizo is just not allowing it.

Isani's spells are as follows:

Cleric
0: create water, detect magic, guidance, light, read magic
1: bless, summon monster I, divine favour + CLW (domain spell)
2: summon monster II, spiritual weapon + CMW (domain spell)

Oracle
0: mage hand, ghost sound, spark, stabilize, resistance, detect poisons, mending, purify food and drink
1: CLW, magic weapon, burning disarm, protection from evil, shield of faith, sun metal (can cast level 1 spells 6 times a day).

For those familiar with item creation rules help me check my math. I'm contemplating an item that allows an 8th level spell to be cast once per week.

8th lvl spell x 15th level caster = 120
X 2000= 240,000. This would be the price for an 8th level at will item provided the spell had a 1 hour per level duration.
240k X 1/5 (.2) = 48,000 would be to cast that spell 1/d which would be cool, but now I'm looking to lessen it to 1/week.
48,000 X 1/7 (0.1428 rounded to 4th place)= 6854.4 market value for an 8th level spell once per week at caster level 15.

I understand the rules aren't set in stone and of course they're subject to DM fiat (like finding a willing 15th level caster), but do the numbers above accurately fit the rules as written? Also did I do my math right?

It looks okay - I think - but better confirm with other more magically savvy folks. For now - I don't know. However - as you mentioned - the real trick is finding a 15th level caster... at least - a GOOD one ;)

More on that later, though...

I am so lost on the gold distribution for our last few windfalls. It's gotten far too convoluted. I seriously just need a number that I can work with please.

Male commoner 1

I've pretty much reconsided the whole "Rolling a Diplomat" for my alt character.

I'm not very good at role-playing diplomacy, especially in this game.
I may just skip the Alt character entirely.

We should prolly try to have a player act as Ruler. To that end, we should support whoever wants to take that role, try to groom them for it, support that character in their meteoric rise to power.

M Elf Spellbinder Conjuration (teleport) Wiz 2

I think the King basically has to be an NPC. I would consider making a rogue type character for that position. Rogue/ranger with a decent Cha would be a good king. Very Lord of the Rings.

While I agree that an NPC ruler would speed things up very quickly – I also feel it would be highly inappropriate – inasmuch that the Ruler would have inside information because the Ruler and the GM would be the same person – any decision the NPC Ruler made that helped the party as the leader would too close to “cheating” – and any decision that the NPC Ruler made that hindered the party could be construed as “not fair”.

I would rather the party create a method of coming to conclusions. Now, if I may make a possible recommendation – there is a reason the person in charge is called the “Ruler” – they rule. That’s pretty much it – the person says “we’re doing X” – and if anyone disagrees – well, let’s see…

1. “Get the Frak off my ship!” – Admiral Adama – “Ruler” dealing with a citizen who has failed to listen to his ruling.

2. “If I’m going to stab you in the back, I’ll do it to your face!” – Captain Malcolm Reynolds – “Ruler”, when a citizen under his command failed to believe in his integrity.

3. “Customs curtsy to great kings. We are the makers of manners, Kate. “ – Henry V – “Ruler” – discussing the nature of how to act formally with diplomacy.

4. ”… And if you don’t listen? Then to hell with you!” – Conan of Cimmeria – “Ruler”, during a quiet moment of prayer and reflection with the gods.

5. “Listen. Since I've met you I've nearly been incinerated, drowned, shot at, and chopped into fish bait. We're caught in the middle of something sinister here, my guess is dad found out more than he was looking for and until I'm sure, I'm going to continue to do things the way I think they should be done.” – Indian Jones – Ruler” – engaged in a little bit of Pillow Talk.

See – that’s kind of what rulers do… you know – rule. You guys aren’t a people to be ruled by a committee. And I’d say “Choose a leader” – but, really – the leader should step forward and say “Uh – yeah – I’m going to BE the leader – that’s just how it is.”

If I haven't been clear enough here... I want to see more "Game of Thrones" - less "This is CNN Roundtable Discussion".

But it's your game, so whatever you guys want to do - it's cool with me.

I suppose Gideon could return to be the wise samurai ruler type. ;-)

Domo, arigato - mister roboto!

Besides - I think you'd call him Shogun

;)

But, in any case - for God's sake - please - someone step up to the bat, soon!

Quick suggestions –

Okay, that’s a lot of details about the loot. So, take some time to read it over, don’t worry too much about a lot of social RP for now – toss up what you want to do via response as in ”My character chooses to do X – and then we’ll go from there.

After the division of wealth is made – let me know what you want to do next? I assume convene the Council – compare notes on what you found – then go form there?

Once you have shared notes – I also recommend – especially with the powers of these potentially growing “guilds” – to formally “flush out” your Council – add a few new members, who you feel to be trustworthy and useful to the team. Then – make your new plans on what to do next.

Try to keep the social RP to a minimum when you say what you want to do with the loot, though. I want that as cut and dry as possible, so we spend a lot of in debate over who gets what. Tell me what your characters would do – and we can start really doing some good Social RP when you share all the notes between the two parties – such as what you found north with what you found under the swamp.

I mean, In character, we should choose a leader, someone that makes sence and we get the people behind them, otherwise we are prolly going to pay for it in terms of massive social fallout, although all i'll have to do is manage the army and work with sylvath and the martial to keep the peace, so i guess i can deal with that, if the new ruler doesn't mind having these problems...

But Out Of Character, somebody actually has to want to be ruler, who ever that is, go for it! If there's two people, Ro-Sham-Bo for it! But we need one, and we need one soon, even if they get introduced at the end of the book, and we say that in down-time, they do a LOT of campaigning and kissing babies, and stuff, and get accepted at the beginning of the next book or whatever...

Anyway, that's my 2cp on that matter.

Dain, I think I'm gonna try humming a bit of the song of fire and ice.

Hell, Shaezon would step up except that he can't. ;-) Besides, he'd rather be the grand visier/archmage type.

You realize that in a tie of Ro-Sham-Bo - that automatically puts either Isani, Ry, or Laz as the winner, right?

Hmm... perhaps that was the plan, though... ;)

But, in any case - according to that logic, Ariarh/Isani or Laz would have to step up to the bat for that point. I hope we'll find out more soon from that front - but it's still early in Oz - so, when I know more - we'll all know more.

Meanwhile - we can still here from Arasmes - if the council is open to it. Because, I agree with you - in the end, out of game - we need someone rotated in quickly. If they don't step up - you'll have no leader at all. So... as Edmund Dante once said -

"Game's to you..."

Kyton-spawn Tiefling Evolutionist Summoner 7 (Noble) (Init +1 / F +7 R +4 W +7 / Perc. +11 / AC 14 /HP 53

Arasmes would be willing but I'm not sure how it would go over in game.

Female Changeling - Osirion Cleric 4/Oracle 3

Isani is a newcomer and from the South. She has no credibility within Saravale and has not earned the trust of the people (not yet, anyway). It would not make much sense to have her as leader of the capital, not at this point.

Female Aasimar Druid 7 (Noble)

Although Arasmes may be the better leader in the end, right now he has no real support or backing in town and he is still viewed with suspicion by most of the townsfolk. Ariarh is a druid, rancher, healer ... and would prefer having a smaller barony to run than a growing capital city .... Yet the townsfolk know and trust her (well the good ones do) and she knows them. Maybe they can co-lead until the town gets to know Arasmes and she can hand over the reins solely to him?

A clarification point: So, are we going with one permanent leader even as a republic?

Kyton-spawn Tiefling Evolutionist Summoner 7 (Noble) (Init +1 / F +7 R +4 W +7 / Perc. +11 / AC 14 /HP 53

I'm good with having a consul and coconsul sort of thing.

Male commoner 1

we can take time to find our niches, but once we hit our stride, and the characters get into what they're good at and suited to, why mess with a good thing?

Among the current players, I feel like Ry may the best suited as art of the council, once drake leaves, and then we can see what happens?

Well - as I see it - the reason to have a leader in a Republic (at least, out of game) is because the party has run into a lot of "hurry up and talk" situations.

That is to say (at least, as I see it) - I present you guys with options, and then you guys have to pick an option - and it takes a while, because I give you lots of options - and you all want to make sure things are amicable, so there's a lot of going back and forth with what you all like - and, in the meantime, as it's a play-by-post game, someone says "Hey, let's do this" - and then it takes a day or two before everyone sees that post, then someone else might say "Hey - why don't we do something else instead" - and then everyone reads both options, thinks about it - and goes back and forth with decisions on what the group likes - and, because it IS play by post, that "conversation" can take days, while nothing really happens except everyone just kind of sits back and waits for the decision to be made, and it's like a week later, and then you guys head out and finally decide what to pack for the trip.

Ahhh!

Meanwhile, though, it seems to me if someone says

"Hey! Wait, wait, wait, wait - no! This is what's going to happen, we're all going to do X - and that's the end of it. Why? Because I'm the leader - and that's it! So - we do X - and let's get to it. You got a problem with that? Want to step outside? No? Then shut up! Now - go get me a scotch on the rocks, bub; I got a kingdom to run!"

Or something like that...

But then, that's just a suggestion, though.

Female Aasimar Druid 7 (Noble)

Ariarh has no problem with an ultimate decision maker/leader ... (well, not in theory as it makes practical sense).

I was just trying to marry the concept of a republic with one permanent leader. ;) But no problem here if everyone is happy to go down that route.

Now of course, there are several versions of a Republic under joint Consulship - such as Julius Caesar and Pompey - and later on, Mark Antony and Octavian/Augustus Caesar...

Still - a Tiefling and an Aasimar? It is rather hard to imagine - still, let me quickly go over the facts in my head.

On the one hand we have Ariarh - her bloodline is one of near pure goodness and her ancestors were completely dedicated to the cause of helping people and doing the right thing. On top of this, she was raised by parents who weren't powerful or wealthy nobles; instead, they worked on a farm, and they had no such high ambitions for their child to be anything other then a good person - and they did their best to instill in their child a sense of decency, compassion, truth, and justice - that sort of thing.

On the other hand you have Arasmes - his bloodline is far darker - more aggressive and much more prone to, well - for all intents and purposes - a creature of the night... On top of that, Arasmes comes from a completely different background - his background is one that involved violence, seeing death at a very young age - tormented by his own inner demons - he is now prompted to take all action to right injustice, even as he hides his true identity behind some sort of mask or cowl - so that no one really knows who he is.

If I'm hearing you correctly - it seems that the general proposal is that the Council sort of follows the almost Yin/Yang leadership style of these two individuals - as they create a organization that attempts to defeat evil - and make sure the citizens of their great country can enjoy some form of life and liberty - and other happy pursuits?

Hmmm... well, if that is really the plan - I'm kind of having a bit of trouble wrapping my brain around the two concepts. Mainly because the two of them are so different.

I mean, come on - what are the odds that an innocent, young, somewhat inexperienced "do-gooder" - a being who's very bloodline is not even human but more akin to an angel and who was raised by simple farmers that did their best to instill in their child wholesome values - now, what are the odds that that person could even get along with the other team member; a creature that hides his true identity behind a charming smile or some sort of a mask - even as he tries to spend the rest of his life bringing his own brand of justice to evil doers - advocating power that make even the boldest of his friends worry about what kind of man he is, even on a sunny day, never mind some, I don't know... dark night?

Huh! I can't imagine such a joint team - much less two individuals functioning as shared leadership - at least, not without some kind of a visual aid...

Oh yes; here we go A visual aid of such a team in action.

Oh my God, somebody save me - I don't care how you do it.

Come on, I'm still waiting for you... please pick the leader, soon!

Come on!

FYI - either this is the biggest coincidence in the world - or you two characters planned this all along... Well - either way you slice it, I applaud you both for the smile I got. Good times!

Female Aasimar Druid 7 (Noble)

Ariarh should take the leadership reins for awhile (whatever time frame the group/Council and its Advisors dictate as appropriate). She can then observe and judge if Arasmes has what it takes and can be accepted by the townsfolk.

Vote 1 for the Angel girl! ;)

Seconded, though I don't get an official vote.

Sounds good - but for now you have Robert to sit in for you guys while you get things sorted out - he's kind of acting as "Deputy leader" - so you guys can head out and explore the southlands.

Which means that if you explore the southlands, during the time you're gone, Tyrell will handle the nitty-gritty of running the town, and you'll be out on adventures. When you get back from that trip south you'll be in a better position to "judge the worth" of your new companions - both in and out of game - and, by then, (probably, though not definetly) - you'll be much richer, and more experienced.

How much more experienced? Well - let's just say you'll be on level 7 - which should grant you Leadership - if you want it.

FYI - I am preparing some minor House Rule tweeks for Profession skills - nothing serious - jurst a formal listing of "synergy" bonuses for anyone who has 5 ranks in a particular profession - something to think about when you plan your Cohorts, and yourself, if you level.

That's probably going to happen - because, if you guys actually go south - explore the land there - do the quest - and come back - you'll most likely be on level 7 at that time.

Angel girl? Huh - I would have thought something like this was more your MO.

So, Here is what I would like to do:

Set up a school of wizardry

Set up a few small magicky businesses to support said school and (god forbid) make a modest profit.

That's it. However, frankly I have no idea what resources I have to do so or what I need to do in game to make it happen.

I've mentioned it in character a few times, but nothing came of it.

Presently all I have as a "resource" is my apprentice, some partially unknown amount of income (the last loot was distributed i think, but some of it is over time etc but the previous loot was never addressed), and some good will.

How should I go about the next few steps?

Well - basically, to put your mind at rest - there's about a crap-ton of notes to keep track of. I write it all down, and keep track of it - so, yeah - I got a sheet with everyone's stuff put aside and I guess I'll just give you a "summary" - just like you saw on the board for the end of Book 1 under the "introduction to Dain's King Maker Campaign".

For what you're planning, though, you won't realistically be able to do any of that in the next two weeks.

My plan, then, is for everyone to get to level 7. When that happens it will be pretty likely that everyone will be old pals after some more adventuring - at which point the town will be "really growing" - and you'll need to delegate authority to help keep the peace - RE: Add new Council Members to the Council.

During the same time you'll be able to look over all your gear/goods/loot in "bulk" - and say - in short - "Okay - month one I got X loot, etcetera - this is what I want to do in Month 1" - then I'll tell you what you can do that month; how far your business advances or how far it slips.

Each month your business will more forward or move backward - based on what you plan on doing and how it works, or doesn't. At the end of a year - book 3 starts - and you'll start it off with all the new goods, gear and equipment your business/barony provides during the year-long time-slot.

You might have a full staff and coin by the end of a year - and they may be cranking out a whole range of magical gear to equip you with by the end of a year - or the whole place may burn down leaving you garbed with nothing but sackcloth, ashes, blood and tears.

However - the short answer is - when you finish this "chapter" - and actually decide to head south, finish this quest - then you'll be moving into book 3 with style.

You'll probably have your school finished - with a full staff - lots of coin and a host of magical gear and so on - perhaps Kae will have his own private army/baronial guard - perhaps Ariarh will have a magical grove filled with a collection of Fey friends - it'll all depend on what you do between the books.

This final chapter is allowing you guys to formally do the following:

1. Finish up gathering some basic build points and coin for your new project.

2. Meet new playable races to potentially recruit into your township, business or as a formal Cohort.

3. Based on what you discover south you'll all formally have new clues and ideas, concepts and theories to assist your total country and prepare it for what will inevitably be coming in the beginning of book 3.

... toward that end, having as many magical items, gear, and troops that you can have may be helpful; you're going to need it.

Book 3 I kind of ratchet up the challenge a bit :)

But don't worry - you'll have a whole year "in game" to prepare for the inevitable stuff.

Oh yeah - during the time that you create a business/barony - you'll be able to recruit a staff - including any friends you want - of course - they'll be level 3 to start - and you'll be level 7 - and kind of the boss - but if you know any actual players who are interested in joining up with you as a team - then you can formally expand your staff with friends not a whole host of NPC's - and they'll be generally aligned to your specific team/group, if you like it.

And if not, no worries...

It's Good Friday here in the southern hemisphere, so posting will be sporadic as Easter is a busy time for me and my (extended) family. But I will do my best and you will see me on the board -- how often I can't say. Also, I will be going away on a family trip from the 11th April to the 14th -- a mountain getaway/retreat -- so no posting at all from me during this period. If Ry/Dior/Isani require NPCing then please do so during my absence.

Happy Easter to all (even to my non-religious friends). :)

Here is the list of things Shaezon might find interesting as potions, other than healing of course. All of these are legal for potions, but some are open to DM interpretation. Everything below is a first level spell or less, so the cost is 50G for a 1st level and 25G for a cantrip. Both are less than the 75G you said was the cap. Just let me know which ones are available.

Oils - Placed on an area or item has the same effect as the spell. Technically a wondrous item, but seeing as how craft potion otherwise sucks If I'd be inclined to allow it if the decision were mine. Plus it's just kind of cool tricks.

Oil of Abundant amunition - When poured into a quiver or bolt case it automatically replaces any non-magical amunition withdrawn for one minute. (by the wording of the spell it also replces the non-magical poison, but that's Dm call. It would be kind of cool if I could save some money on the really expensive poison arrows. Plus it would impress Galen. ;-)

Oil of obscuring mist - Same effect as the spell when vial is opened (or broken) <--That has some fun potential.

Potion of -

Air bubble - Breath underwater 1 min
Deadeye lore - +4 sacred bonus to survival and full movement while tracking for one hour.
Enlarge person
Reduce Person
Glide
Hide from undead

Arasmes,

We both seem to be doing some sort of magic item/magic school thing. It may be in our best interest to work together. We should roleplay that.

I'm definitely down with working together. A sort of magical consortium or Arcanum...and then we can take over the world! lol Especially once we start making our own demi-planes lol ;-)

We'll be able to pool our resources and we won't be stepping on each others toes. I think it'll work well.

Arasmes, we should start coordinag our efforts.

I'm totally open to suggestions, but I figured I'd be headmaster and you, given your charisma bonus, could handle the diplomacy/business side.

We'll have some overlap, of course, but we should assign roles. For example you'll teach certain classes and sometimes I'll go on trade missions, etc.

Not sure exactly how to break it down, but think about it.

I'm good with you being headmaster and handling the teaching and such. I can handle the practical aspects like you said. Or better yet we make an arcane organization instead of just a school. The school could be run and feed into the organization. Kind of like an Academy that moves into an order of sorcery. If you have read Wheel of Time, kind of like the White Tower or Black tower where they recruit initiates and train them up to full members with all the rights and responsibilities contained therein. Basically there would be an Academy, which feeds into the guild or whatever we want to call it. What do you think?
