I'm unclear why this is an issue. We are talking about 250gp.

Not every character has 250gp to toss around as 'chump change' after upgrading their gear, buying consumables, etc.

Not every character has 1-2PP to toss around as 'chump change' after purchasing gear, consumables, adding to their 'res' fund.

Sure, I get that. But in the Grand scheme of things, by the time you have 5pp to spend on something like a jade wayfinder, 250gplease is easily manageable. Does it mean you delay buying something else? Maybe, but 250gp means that delay is likely a,single scenario.

This is like any other purchase. You weigh v the costs vs need vs want vs other expenditures needed or wanted. And you make a choice.

250gp is not an onerous amount.

I have mentioned this thread to the PFS team. It wraps into a larger conversation the team is having regarding upgrading items. Once we have time (i.e. post PaizoCon) to look at it, we will get an answer published.

Cheers!

I don't know if it was brought up, but the idea of being able to use PP to upgrade items would be an interesting thought?

What 'cash' value certain levels of expenditure would need to be figured out if such a method was adopted, but there are boons and mechanics already in-campaign for acquiring items/vanities/etc with prestige...

Having just equipped a character with a wayfinder + enhancements, it's clear that not all enhancements are an individual wayfinder as per Mark's post way back in 2011 - the Inherited enhancement in the Pathfinder Society Primer states

Quote:

When purchasing a wayfinder enhancement that would normally replace the wayfinder’s ability to cast light with the ability to cast a different spell, the wayfinder retains

the ability to cast light, allowing it to cast two different 0-level spells.

With the way the intro to the Wayfinder Enhancements section in both the Primer and the Field Guide are worded, I can see how it could be interpreted as pay the PP cost to enhance the wayfinder you've got, although I think in most cases the enhancement description suggests a different object rather than a modification to the existing one. In my case, the character didn't have a wayfinder already, so I was applying "buy a wayfinder and also pay the PP cost".

That last paragraph got a bit messy. I think what I'm saying is that the rules can be read as being an upgrade to an existing wayfinder, but the actual described changes make more sense as being a new wayfinder (maybe the PFS Quartermaster does a swap? maybe you end up with 2?), with one or two exceptions like Inherited that are obviously used in combination with other enhancements.

Was there ever any further clarification on this?

In addition, what if someone plays several scenarios where things are 'added' to a given wayfinder as part of the chronicle sheet? Does each 'addition' require an additional wayfinder (despite the chronicle text?)

Do they go on *every* wayfinder a Pathfinder acquires, if they have to have a Bandolier of Endless Wayfinders?

Inquiring minds abound.

I don't recall any chronicle sheets that add a "bonus" or "special ability" to wayfinders. The only one I can think of just engraves a symbol on your existing wayfinder, but the boon spells that out.
