What are the chances of an alternative to the VoP or new Qinggong monk powers showing up?

I've been trying to keep my mind off these but other threads pushed 'em back in.

What are the chances we could see some kind of "Path of the Ascetic" or something for monks that could serve as an alternative to the VoP? Something balanced with the standard expectations so that a gearless 15-point buy monk using it could pull his weight in a standard party in a standard AP. Something slightly less powerful than a standard monk and with less versatility that would come with being able to use magical gear, but something that still grants enough bonuses and perks to keep them just under the curve rather than far below it, all while making the monk entirely dependant on the boons granted by their enlightenment rather than some sort of item allowance.

Also, is there any chance of new Qinggong monk powers coming out soon? We still don't have any good-aligned monk powers to answer the evil ones, and they could also thematic gaps. For example, Flowing Monks can't really take Marid or Djinni styles during an AP and Sacred Mountain Monks can't take Shaitan styles, but new Qinggong powers would allow them to grab some of that flavor that would otherwise be locked out for them.

Also also, would some method for a monk to directly enhance his unarmed strike have any shot at showing up in Ultimate Equipment or somewhere else? Something that preserved the flavor of a barehanded monk and was priced more fairly than AoMF, since it would be freed up from the natural attacks baggage?

I'm pretty sure some third party outfit like SGG will be printing out some material at some point. As far as Paizo's concerned they're set in stone.

I cannot remember where I saw this, but there is a recent article somewhere discussing poverty. I think it is going to be in the newedt Kobold Quarterly.

I'll keep an eye out for it, thanks! Here's hoping it helps. We use their Spell-less Ranger so there's a better chance of getting their 3pp take on the VOP cleared than usual.

Have they actually said anything to this effect? I've been scouring the forums for months for anything on any of those three things and haven't found any official answers. The closest thing was SKR saying that something that enabled the gearless monk concept would be something that fell outside the scope of Ultimate Magic, but there hasn't been anything said on where or if it had a chance of showing up.

New Qinggong powers and abilities would be great. I can see them adding good aligned abilities. After all, players are the largest part of Paizo's market and adding new Qinggong powers does not take up much space. I am afraid VoP is pretty much a done deal. I am not going to worry about it anymore.

I've been holding out hope that wouldn't be the case. I know the chances of the UM VoP being rewritten are beyond slim, but I was hoping something else that made the concept possible might still be in the cards.

Agreed on Qinggong powers and players. Especially considering that good PCs are far more coommon than evil PCs, it makes the presence of evil Qinggong powers and the lack of good ones puzzling and frustrating. (in much the same way that we have fiend totems for barbarians, but the celestial totems got cut from Ultimate Combat)

I would also very much like to see new qinggong monk powers.

Another thought, it would be nice to have new Qinggong monk powers that weren't available to casters as spells.

Wonder what the chances are of Blood Crow Strike getting the [Evil] descriptor errata'd off if we can't get a Good-flavored equivalent somewhere else.

Hate bumping, but...

$5 says that nobody with a Golem next to their name gives this any answers.

Although, it would be profoundly hilarious if something that "enabled the concept of a gearless monk" showed up in a book dedicated to gear.

That would be rich, I tell you, rich. Rich enough to violate a Vow of Poverty.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Look at what game you are playing

I'd really like to keep this thread positive/neutral in tone. There's been way too much hostility thrown from all corners lately.

WBL-appropriate rituals for the monk to enhance his own unarmed strike could fit in there perfectly though.

As for the other stuff, a lot of it would have worked in Ultimate Combat. Celestial totems for barbarians almost did apparently. :(

What has me worried is how far off any other book could be where any of this stuff could reasonably show up. We still have an Inner Sea Combat down the line most likely, to answer Inner Sea Magic. New Qinggong powers or an alternate Vow of Poverty could easily show up there.

I owe Mikaze $5, and I'll pay up.

Add something to your wishlist, Mikaze!

My error was that I forgot that SKR is THE MAN.

This is very good to hear! :) Holy hadoken-throwin' monk concept is back on the table now!

Has me more optimistic about all that other stuff too.

Don't worry about it man, you really don't have to. :)

But if you insist... ;)

Hoping an update on blood crow strike is coming soon.

Still hoping monks get some sort of self-enhancing ritual option in the Equipment book too, if there's a chapter it can fit into thematically.

Wonder if there are any forthcoming books good-aligned qinggong powers or celestial-flavored martial arts feats could fit. Qinggong powers might have worked in Inner Sea Magic, but they could fit into a martial equivalent of that book as well.

I wonder what happened to the internal Monk review SKR was alluding to a few months ago.

I didn't think it would be something that would be publicly discussed while it was ongoing. Am hoping to see the end results though.

Alas, if only I had seen this post before I gained that last level...

:(

I'd love a chance to playtest it...
