How to Snagit with Paizo Products?

Technology

Is it possible to use a program like Snagit (or whatever) to clip pieces of art out of products you've downloaded from Paizo?

I can't seem to make it work as every time I try to highlight a region it only gets the background not the wording or picture layered overtop.

I'm thinking it has something to do with the way Paizo products are formatted but it could just be that I'm an idiot and don't know what I'm doing.

The reason I ask is because I like to clip artwork or magic item descriptions or whatever for use as a DM in my games, which is sometimes easier than transcribing a description from scratch.

I use SomePDF, which can be downloaded HERE

Sure, you could use Snaggit or a similar screen capture progam or simply do a screen capture and crop.

Use these options for the given PDF Reader:
Adobe Acrobat X: Edit > Copy Image, then draw a box
Foxit Reader 3.1.4: Tool> Snapshot (or Keyboard Shortcut Alt-7 or click the camera icon on the menu bar)

Windows:
Built-In Screen Capture: Print screen key for full screen or Alt-Print Screen key to capture active window.

In Vista or Windows 7, there is a Snipping Tool that I think is part of the Windows Tablet Package.

Apple:
Built in Sceen Capture: Command - Shift - 4, Draw a box around the image

I think it's part of all packages. It's certainly on my desktop.

Hmmm, it appears to be a problem with Snagit as I can do it quite easily with Adobe Acrobat.

Thanks folks!

Has anyone else had issues with exporting images from some of the PDFs? For example, when I try to export images from the Pathfinder Society Field Guide, I get a "Acrobat could not extract an image from this document because of the following error: Bad Parameter (Page 5)." It also happens on page 7, page 9, page 11, etc (every odd page in the pdf). I've seen this on a number of other pdfs as well.

In general, if you have an issue doing something with Adobe Reader that you think other people would have noticed by now, that's a tip-off to me that your Reader install has probably gone south (which happens surprisingly often). I'd suggest reinstalling it with a fresh copy from adobe.com.

Normally I'd say you are right, except I can reproduce this error on three machines running two different versions of Acrobat...

Something the paizo gnomes can try to reproduce in their lab?

Looks like it is, in fact, Acrobat. I just tried it with SomePDF's Image Extract and it didn't trip up over the parameter errors.

So I'm having the same issues with Adobe and getting bad parameter errors on odd pages. Odd thing is that I have no problem with APs or Core books, but other pdfs give me the problem. I've tried on two different computers with both Adobe 9 and 10, the Adobe X copy is brand new and just installed. I can get SomePDF to work, but the quality of their images isn't that great. Anyone have anymore ideas on this? Thanks.

I use Snagit all the time on Paizo products with no problem. I use the All-in-one tool or the Freehand tool (to get an image without the text around it).

It's just a screen capture so your version of Acrobat wouldn't make any difference at all.
