I have a player who has taken the Rude Song Trait for his goblin. It gives a +2 to Perform (Sing) but it also says Perform is a class skill. My question is does it mean all Perform skill options or just Sing?

Just Sing.

Liberty's Edge

"Perform" is one skill with multiple sub-skills. There is never, to my knowledge, an example of getting only one perform as a class skill (similarly with profession and craft). Those three skills are different enough that classes always list "Craft" or "Profession", but never say "Craft (all)". They do, however, do that with knowledge which is sometimes written "Knowledge (All)". I would rule that they get all performs as class skills (though the bonus still applies to only one).

If you can show me an example of something that explicitly grants only a single sub-skill as a class skill, I'll change my tune.

After viewing other traits, along with my view that all Perform, Craft and Knowledge skills are separate. Each one requires its own Skill Point so they are separate. I am agreeing with Alakqualyn.

Fighter skills? You see Knowledge Dungeoneering and Engineering, but not History, Arcana, etc.

The way the trait is written, it seems to indicate that ONLY Sing is treated as a class skill, as it's in the same format as the Knowledges.

It's true that Perform, Craft, and Profession typically do not do this, but it's also, for example, the same formatting that you see for the pre-req on the Shadow Dancer.

The trait gives a bonus only to perform sing, but then makes all perform skills class skills.

Craft, profession, and perform are different than knowledge.

Knowledge is always broken up in terms of training save in a few classes. Craft, perform, and profession are always together. I cannot think of a circumstance that specifies training (not bonus) in one alone.

Looking at the precise text, it's pretty obvious. The bonus is specified, the class skill is not. The bonus is for (sing) the class skill is general Perform.

I explicitly noted that knowledge does not fit this pattern. Yes, you DO see "Knowledge (Dungeoneering)", but you never see "Perform (Dance)" as a class skill.

And you DO see the specific performs on pre-requisites, but again never as a class skill!. Under class skills you always see "Perform (Cha)", never "Perform (Dance) (Cha)" or even "Perform (All) (Cha)". This is in direct contrast with knowledge where the class skills always list "Knowledge (Type) (Int)".

So I reiterate my belief that for the purposes of being a class skill, Craft, Perform and Profession are each one skill (a total of 3), not separate skills (like knowledge is). Again, this is only for the purposes of determining whether it's a class skill or not.
