It's an experimental format that has little allowance for review and editing by its author. It tends to have pacing issues, and some of the writing and mood-shifts are a little wonky.
Unlike a novel, it isn't written in its entirety and then edited until it is as good as it needs to be then published. It's an ongoing process.
Nevertheless, it's something I would say is worth experiencing. I do not say read, as it is more than just a comic. It's something that defies easy definition.
Also the latest update blew up Newgrounds due to the massive number of views.

'TRUE FANN's are horribly annoying. Homestuck has a really bad reputation for having one of the most annoying fandoms on the internet. I prefer to be a regular fan.
Yeah but our title is pretty awesome. (Really I get what you're saying. I guess there's just a certain part of the population that MSPA really resonates with. Not because of shared experiences, but because it is in our GENEWS> Or something.)
Anyway MSPA is pretty cool. I'm not sure if I should keep necroing this thread - wait does it really count as necroing if it's still on the first page? - but I guess I will to see if anyone else reads Homestuck. I mean, how many people are there on the forums? There's got to be more than [edit]four[/edit] HS fans. And more than one TRUE FANN.......
(BTW porn people are not TRUE FANN......s. They are dumb people who make Andrew Hussie post about them on his tumblr.)

I read Homestuck. Got shown it by Gark. It's pretty well brilliant. I love the characters, love the music and love the story (once I've wrapped my head around it). The massive amount of brick jokes, hidden meanings and all-in-all continuity is mind-boggling.
I do see several flaws (Act One, for instance), but I can't recommend this comic enough.
Except by the standards of other people. Most people I talk to about it would like me to shut up. They say that to a lot of things I recommend, in fact.
Actually, even when I don't recommend anything...

I don't spend a lot of time on the MSPA forums, but I like to follow the comic and occasionally pop in to the Skaia imageboards and tumblrs to see if there's anything interesting. I think it's the only piece of fiction I've ever read fanfiction of (the TV Tropes page on Homestuck has a listing of good ones). I typically keep well clear of fanfiction.
Since I've been reading it from the very start (I started following MSPA during Problem Sleuth), it's been a bizarre thing to watch the community around it evolve. I've hardly been more than a lurker, but it feels like being part of something unique just for having witnessed it.

I follow a few tumblrs (jitjitjit). The only real fanfiction I've ever read is Be the Sea Dweller Lowblood. Perhaps MSPA is able to pry us from our curmudgeonly invulnerability to the niggling tentacles of fanfiction because of its original medium - a forum adventure. Something defined by the community. /snip
If I experienced it serially, I probably wouldn't be so insane.* But of all the comics I've read,** it holds up the best to archive binging. Act 1 is not a flaw - not only defining John's character, it is self-sufficient as a comedic essay. /snip
*Just finished Homestuck Act 1 of MSPA Reread #5.
Yeahhhhhhhh.
**see the thread about webcomics you read for an incomplete list that shows how much better I am than you

Some people think Act 1 is bad. I'd hardly say half are scared away, though. Out of six people I've actively requested read Homestuck, only one has given up in the middle of Act 1. (Two have finished it, one is reading Problem Sleuth, one is in Act 2 and continues to slowly read, and one is in Act 2 but hasn't read any in a while.)
On the other hand, MSPA selects for non-casual readers. I think many a Paizonian has read my fevered allusions and decided to check it out, only to shy away at the sight of the unmoving first page. I only started reading after Ryan North of Dinosaur Comics referenced its awesomeness thrice - and even then only when bored by about 1,500 comics of the same art and dialogue style.

I had started it about a year and a half ago but I gave up somewhere in Act 1, I found the programming references interesting, but the pace felt slow and just meh. Then about 6 months, I met this girl who kept referencing it and showed me some fan art which drew in my curiosity (I was confused because I didn't realize it was the same comic), after slugging through the Act 1 it began to pick up and got way more interesting.
The experience is like visiting a friend who keeps you in their boring, typical room showing off their outdated computer when they have a teleporter, spaceships, and dinosaurs in their backyard.

Mighty boonbucks raised in mere days for the Homestuck video game kickstarter.
The boondollar pile doesn't stop from getting taller.

The Be the Sea Dweller Lowblood fans were pooling some of their money to get one of their characters (Cuvier) in for one of those fantroll slots. The author hasn't updated her tumblr in a while though so I don't know how it's going, but I figure something'll come up within a day or two, given how close the deadline is getting.
In other news it's been too long since Jack has had some screen time. Though I hope we get some for PM as well before we jump back to Meenah.

Not sure. Hussie made a passing mention of "some of this stuff might end up on Topatoco" somewhere, but nothing since.
I would have been interested in the cards (and maybe one of the plushies, think they would have made a good gift for my niece) but likewise I couldn't fork out $200+ for the tiers with them. Plus I didn't care for the bags and most of the other junk mixed in between the low tiers and the stuff I wanted. A shirt wouldn't have been bad, admittedly, but the rest of it I didn't care about.

Yeah, the TS guys were posting over on the other board we use for SDLB stuff. Couldn't get heads or tails from whoever was involved, it seemed like there was a lot of contradictory info thrown around.
What username do you use over there, btw? Mine's Oblivion.
WHOAAAAAAAAAA
I'm Fish, I know you! Even if you don't know me. Do you follow Dreamlinger? I think you do? WOWWWWW this is ridicinciulous.
But yeah I don't follow the alternate discussion board thing, regrettably.

Do you think there will be a chance for people like me who just wanted to buy the deck of cards and nothing else from the kickstarter pack, but didn't want to pay $130 dollars for them?
I plan to get the game when it is available, I don't mind paying extra for the completed version.
If they're economical to produce for this, it's quite possible that they'll end up on topatoco or what pumpkin.

I help WRITE Dreamlinger, along with Takum and mythicMonster, and a couple other people who have up and vanished on us. Takum's just a much better artist than me. Drosic (the psycho seadweller) and Orthas (the just-introduced redblood necromancer) are my characters. Lack of further updates are due to Takum moving.
And yeah, I've seen you about =)
