I am looking for some advice on creating a bit of a back story/reason as to why a succubus would be my cohort. We are playing a high level evil campaign, and the idea of my succubus was approved based on the grounds that I come up with a good back story for it. As such I have been rolling ideas around in my head and nothing seems to sound good or mesh well. It doesnt help that my DM is a rule nazzi like no other and has already made it clear, that from time to time he will be taking over control of the succubus. Just looking for a few ideas on a reason to why my character would have a succubus as my cohort or on my payroll.

We need a bit more information on your character. What class are you? Level? What are your interests? What god or demon lord do you worship, if any? For that matter, what race are you?
Really, why wouldn't any evil person of sufficient power have a succubus available? ;)
It's such a hassle having to worry about negative levels every time you want some tongue-on-tongue action...

No, they are moot only if she's hotter than anything else you can call at those levels. Mid/high level wizards and clerics can call on quite exquisite company should they want to.

What setting is this game, though? This also has a lot of impact on what a good / viable story behind a Succubus cohort would be.
Everyone knows Brijidines are the hottest. A lot harder to get hold of, though!
A rival summoned her to mess you up, and you proved far too resourceful, as well as far more malicious than ... well, more than almost anyone. She was suitably impressed by your cunning and your cruelty, especially since you're only a mortal, and haven't had the thousands of years of practice at being evil (which all the demons have).
Well... that's ONE reason she's your cohort.
There's also that little thing with the Glabrezu lord... y'know, the ones that are hunting her down. Nothing like having a few human shields around in case they show up. :)

Well, she's a Cohort meaning she can have items and stuff attached to to her..so Yes she WILL be hotter than most anything you can summon...and will be there all day AND all night ;)
In all seriousness, I can see you getting a succubus as a cohort in many ways, The thing we need to know..What's your concept and alignment?

Well that's simple. Why does a succubus ever follow one of the hairless monkeys around? Because she believes they are important to one of her plans or agenda's. So said succubus thinks said PC is important to something of hers. Keep in mind demon's live a long time, so said plan might take years, decades or even longer before they come about. Until such a time the succubus would be helpful and try and make sure said pawn stayed alive and relative healthy until that point. Short of risking personal permanent destruction herself of course.
So in the scope of the campaign her plan or agenda may never come up, as one you could say it would happen after the campaign ends. But one can assume said PC will do something the Succubus needs, after which she betrays him and drags his soul to the abyss to be her play thing for eternity... or until she grows bored with it and breaks her new toy.
- Like many modern demonologists, you posted an advertisement on the demonic service Cabirislist. The succubus responded.
- You bought a cool magical item off the wizard-guild-run auction service cBall, but gasp! That's not a magical hat, that's a prison for a demon! You just got scammed!
- You ordered a demon with Planar Binding and got a babau, even though you said no babau because you were allergic to them. You demanded to see its manager, and Orcus gave you a free succubus to shut you up.
- You met the succubus in the massively multiplayer magical roleplaying game, World of Kinetic-Military-Action-Craft.
- You won the succubus from another wizard in a game of poker.
- You want to get some. Unfortunately, girls don't appreciate nice guys like you. Fortunately, you have access to summon magic.

But Lillendi have a bigger problem -- the Mermaid problem. Of course, that problem is easier to work around than the whole level draining thing with the Succubus -- unless, of course, she has the ability to turn it off at will. Just don't try to give her a surprise kiss!

We do, we just don't very often. And sometimes turn it back on during moments of passion. Oops. :)
With a Lilin, you could draw up a contract. But with demons, well....Chaotic
Here's a thought: maybe your cohort is a succubus, but she's in disguise? It could be fun having a cohort and not knowing what she really was. To take a more logical view, maybe she stays in disguise so as not to provoke random drive-by paladin-smiting incidents, but you know who and what she is.
Really, the question should be 'why WOULDN'T you have a succubus as a cohort' :)

Technically the PC will be the cohort of the succubus, just ask her. Of course she might let said PC think they are in charge, for awhile anyways. :)

A good backstory reason I suppose is if you help a Succubus' goals. I could see a Succubus just loving to control people, and by hanging out with an adventuring party they don't have to worry about just dealing with small fry. Plus, if you're CE what isn't there to love about killing everything in sight with an adventuring party? While there is the, ahem unique skill set they have, I don't think that's all they aspire to do. Gotta fit in some evil after all.

Why keep a succubus around? Hmm, lets analyze that for a moment. A creature who's entire existence revolves around passion and sex, is immortal, never sleeps, never eats, and is constantly ready to go for another round. Yeah sounds great at first, but if she never lets you up for air, you will die within a week, if she hasn't gotten bored with you and sucked your life easence dry first.
On the other hand if you can actually control her, you have the perfect spy and assassin at your fingertips, and some really hot kinky sex on the side for free
Do you travel with a druid? Druid/succubus interactions tend to cause rules controversy.
