Conversion and reimagining of the final boss of Burnt Offerings

These days, when I'm bored, I make conversions. I decided to turn Nualia into an Antipaladin for the heck of it. (Yes, a somewhat questionable decision by the RAW, since Nualia, being formerly dedicated to Desna, could not have been a Paladin before her fall. But I figured Lamashtu would be just as happy to turn Cleric of Desna levels into Antipaladin levels, given their rivalry.) I'm pretty proud of the result. Is it maybe too good?

Nualia
CE Female Aasimar Antipaladin 6 [Medium Outsider (Native)]
Initiative -1 Senses: Darkvision 60 ft., Perception +5
Auras: Cowardice (All enemies within 10 ft take a -4 to saves vs. fear, or lose fear immunity)

Defense
AC 15 (+6 Armor, -1 Dex), Touch 9, Flat-footed 15
When smiting, gains a +4 deflection bonus
HP 53 (6d10+18)
Fort +11 Ref +5 Will +12
Defensive Abilities Unholy Resilience, Plague Bringer (Immune to the negative effects of diseases)
Resist Acid 5, Cold 5, Electricity 5

Offense
Spd. 20 ft. (Reduced from 30 ft. base speed by armor)
Melee +1 [Keen] Bastard Sword +9(1d10+8/17-20) and
Claw +2 (1d6+5)
Ranged Composite longbow +5 (1d8+3/x3)
Special Attacks: Smite Good (1/day, gain a +4 to AC and attack rolls, and +6 against a single Good target for the duration of the encounter), Channel Negative Energy (3d6 in a 30 ft. burst; Will save DC 17 for half; consumes 2 uses of Touch of Corruption), Touch of Corruption (7/day touch attack for 3d6 damage. DC 17 Fort save, or be Shaken or Staggered at Nualia’s option)
Special Abilities: Aura of Evil, Detect Good, Fiendish Boon (As a standard action, Nualia may add Flaming, Keen, or Vicious to a weapon she wields for 1 minute.)
Spell Like Abilities: Daylight 1/day
Spells
1st—Cause Fear (DC 15), Murderous Command (DC 15)

Tactics
Before Combat: When Nualia knows combat is imminent, she employs Fiendish Boon to make her Bastard Sword Keen, the better to rip her foes asunder for the glory of her Mother.

During Combat: Nualia activates her Sihedron Medallion as a free action to gain the benefits of a False Life spell on the first round of combat. She tag-teams with her Yeth Hound with ruthless efficiency; she particularly enjoys using her Touch of Corruption to leave foes Shaken, so that the hound’s Sinister Bite can leave them cowering. Nualia prefers to use her Smite against clerics or paladins, against whom she doubles her smite damage on the Bastard Sword blow. If the party contains an Aasimar or a cleric of Desna, this reminder of her past drives Nualia into a rage; she will attack such a party member to the exclusion of all other targets. She employs Power Attack on every blow unless hitting proves routinely difficult; this preference is reflected in her stat block.

Morale: Nualia fights to the death.

You realise that as off Inner Sea Magic Nualia is the Iconic Divine Scion don't you?

The aura of cowardice is going to interact with the yeth hounds baying. A lot of parties end up fighting Nulia under strength because of this fear effect. Be carefull the whole party is not butchered piece meal.

That's pretty much what I meant when I wondered if it might be too good. I don't think it's quite to Xanesha levels, but I think this version of Nualia is a true unholy terror.

Come and share it in this thread!

As for the build itself, she's very scary. I like it, but I'd consider sweeping her aura of cowardice under the map if the party is already heavily wounded and low on resources. Bay lasts a long time, and DC 16 (with her aura factored in) is fairly high. Still, if you have a party paladin (or a bard with remove fear and inspire courage maybe) it's time for those PCs to shine.

As an aside, I'm loving the spell selection. I'd never noticed Murderous Command until now.

I've finally got my hands on a copy. I'll be advancing her as one of these. Weapon Specialisation and +4 on combat manuevers with the advanced strength domain? Sounds bloody incredible.

I'm a little wary to give her burst bonds 3/day, however. My PC is set on capturing and redeeming her and I dont want to ruin his fun.

Well depending on what level you want her to be she's going to have to be 6th level at least to even get one level of Divine Scion..off course if she lives..or Lamashtu brings her back.??!!!

Nualia's lived in my game. I had her escape capture in the night, but was trapped and cornered in a storm by a single PC... and my PC, set on redeeming her, was brutally stabbed to near death.

It was a fantastic moment, and entirely his idea, too. I love it when my players shape the narriative.

I'll have her coming back as a divine scion, trying to draw on the work on these forums to tie her into somewhere around HMM or FotSG, possibly with a trip to Kaer Maga in the picture.

I went with antipaladin, too. No one died, but it was a good fight. I had a party fo 6 at the time, and three PCs failed the bay save.

They had a tough fight of it, but still won in the end. I dare say mine might have been a little tougher than yours as well. I think I bumped her Str a bit more, and I switched from a bastard sword, I think, so I didnt have to waste a feat on Exotic Weapon Prof.

I just bought Inner Sea Magic as well. If I ever run this again, I'll have to consider going with Scion instead.

When encountered in Burnt Offerings, she can have, at most, one level of Divine Scion, and the Prestige class doesn't really do anything interesting until the 3rd level.

Just because we used the opportunity to illustrate that class with a picture of Nualia doesn't mean that's her class.

All it means is that if your PCs don't stop her... that's probably the next level she'll take! :-)

As to the original question, only you as GM know your party. But in my opinion for 4 3rd level characters this is going to be a killer. If she was on her own it may be ok, but with a yeth hound people will prob die. But hay, she could fail a 1st round save and die like a chump. Nothing is certain.

its recommended that if she gets away, she might take levels in divine scion....

an addition i found confusing, since divine scion requires weapon focus in the deity's favored weapon... the scenario went to pains taking fighter levels to give her exotic weapon proficiency and weapon focus in the bastard sword instead. =/

she escaped in the game of Runelords I'm running, so I'm looking into how I wanna level her up now. Retraining her to strip her of the fighter feats /levels has crossed my mind so I can add divine scion instead. =P

She could be an Anti-Paladin 5, Divine Scion 1 couldn't she?

Well, you could give her Exotic Proficiency and Weapon Focus with falcata instead of bastard sword, since a falcata is "much like a larger version of a kukri."
