But for the automatic AoOs, I don't have a problem with the style. It's a pretty cool defensive/tank monk set.

Comparing it to some maneuver feats like Greater Trip, Drag, Bull Rush, etc... similar level requirements and prerequisite feats. They all provoke AoOs but with a successful CMB check.

I'd allow the feats, but with either a CMB check to force the diversion, or nix the AoOs.

PS - you could still attack with Archon Diversion, as it only costs a move action.

Yeah, the pre-requisite is a bit low on that - it should really come into play at 6th level or higher to still force a choice. A single attack and get the style benefits, or get all your iteratives. As it is the feat definitely fits a sweet spot in E6 games where it has no drawback to use.

Female Human Bard/Monk (Martial Artist) 8/1 || Per +14 | Fort +7 Ref +11 Will +9 | BAB +6 | CMB +10 | CMD 24 ||

...okay, at this point since there are actually enough differences I'll probably re-write it to be essentially the inverted Crane Style I thought it was. This I will likely not get to until later in the afternoon. Probably the AoO will come in on Justice, but with the higher prerequisite for Crane Riposte in place.

Female Human Bard/Monk (Martial Artist) 8/1 || Per +14 | Fort +7 Ref +11 Will +9 | BAB +6 | CMB +10 | CMD 24 ||

Actually, having had time to study the thing some more, I think I've grokked the point of the thing, which is as an Antagonize replacement. The reason the consequences of triggering a full-on Archon Judgement are so severe is because it's entirely avoidable for the person about to be AoO'd to death - all they have to do is attack the Archon Style user and suddenly they never have to deal with it.

That's the point - it's supposed to make attacking anyone else in a mass melee such a bad idea that it should almost never happen. Of course, that comes with the tradeoff of, well, being the target of all those attacks. It's definitely a gamble - use it against an opponent that's too strong and you're going to be eating the turf in short order simply to get rid of you.

For it to actually work that way, though, it definitely has to be OOCly agreed that there's no chance to hide it - the dilemmia, and the choice, is "open knowledge" to the PC or NPC targeted. That's somewhat counter to the way feats are usually played.

If nobody else wants it the breastplate of light fortification would be useful for Harlan.

Quick note on languages - with the last leg of the journey before hitting Tian-Xia proper (and the last chance to put ranks in Linguistics) I thought this was a good time to bring this up again. Obviously, subject to GM.

1) Taldane - Maybe surprisingly, there are a sizable number of people on the content who speak the tongue. Less so, almost all of them live thousands of miles from where we'll be visiting. While you can probably find a translator, if you don't want it to be Maeve (in all likelihood) you're going to want something else.

2) Tien - This is the "Common Tongue" of the Dragon Empires. As a trade language, most merchants will at least speak enough to deal with them without aid if you know it, as will almost anybody "worth talking to" like nobles, mercenaries, priests, etc. This is almost a skill tax, it's so useful.

3) Minkaian - as the regional language of Minkai, where we'll be spending a lot of time, this is probably still moderately useful. While Tien is the "common tongue" Minkaian is the language of the common people. If you want to be able to speak to anyone in Minkai, as opposed to just the people who are most likely to be helpful, Minkaian is also on the list of languages you'll want to pick up.

4) Hon-la - Same as above, but for Hongal instead. We'll be passing through this region, but likely not staying long.

5) Senzar - the shared language of the kami. Basically, this is probably the campaign's "Infernal" or "Celestial," useful if you're looking for a more mystical bent to your character or if you're foolish enough to think of parley with Oni. That not even Maeve is that foolish should tell you something.

Sorry for the slow pace... work and home this week (and last, for that matter) have been busy. I'll hopefully have an update out tomorrow. Last chance for defensive prep inputs.

I don't think we broke down the tower loot. We have:

5,000 gp worth of valuable crystals and gemstones,
500 gp of which are diamonds- did we use these?

a cube of frost resistance,
a gem of brightness

For the item identifications:
* headband of mental superiority +2 (Use Magic Device)-Maeve
* scroll of cleanse
* +2 breastplate of light fortification
* Unholy symbol of Sithhud (has the properties of a periapt of health)

also MW buckler

Harlan used 400gp of diamond dust removing negative levels. He also wouldn't object to the breastplate unless we have other Medium armor wearers.

I dont need any of that loot. I could use some scrolls to fill in some areas of my spell book.

Unless you had Maeve intentionally misspeak, and she's the only one in the party with a 'studied' knowledge of Oni, I'd beware of using 'Oni are nature spirits' as a key argument, as they are quite the opposite.

Female Human Bard/Monk (Martial Artist) 8/1 || Per +14 | Fort +7 Ref +11 Will +9 | BAB +6 | CMB +10 | CMD 24 ||

Maeve was kind of going for the 'layman's lie' there. She mentioned earlier that they're corrupted kami - more two sides of the same coin than polar opposites. Combine that with the way the storms seem to have followed their major actions in Avistan, and Maeve can easily draw the conclusion that the oni still have a connection to the natural world even though they're no longer really a part of it.

Gotcha... a stretch, but logical in Maeve's reasoning I suppose.

Also, not ignoring you Parity, but I need more time to come up with the counter-argument. Problem with playing a character that much smarter than you are. Heh, no problem. I gotta dumb it down some more. Parity is significantly less well read than Maeve. No formal education ... that sort of thing. Just don't want to fall into a "Me smash" type character ... can't do it. I try and have him think through things without much consideration to long term ... as in it's all fuzzy out there, and no one can really know so let's not worry about it. Add in a touch of suspect morality without being out of control and you get the standoffish prick that he is.

Actually, need to make a couple of knowledge checks. Identifying the guy back at Brinewall (OOCly, I've figured this out, but ICly)and Kimandatsu by their particular oni species with Knowledge (Planes). Specifically, whether or not Maeve's managed to discover the "root creature" each comes from.

Brinewall guy (whose name I've forgotten): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (11) + 11 = 22
Kimandatsu: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (1) + 11 = 12

yeah, i'd say hold on to the scroll of cleanse as it functions as Break Enchantment which might be useful to keep around just in case. Otherwise sell the rest.

a gem of brightness- 6500 gp

* scroll of cleanse- keep
* +2 breastplate of light fortification- Harlan

Hmm...actually, gonna suggest we keep the Cube for the moment. Miss Crazy Storm Lady is still out there, and she may have been a little more trigger happy with the lightning than the ice part of her 'god's' supposed portfolio, there's no reason to believe she wasn't holding something nasty like an Ice Storm in reserve. Could come in handy. Once we're out of the arctic, selling it becomes more attractive.
