Will any of the new sets have item type miniatures?
A weapon rack, or a chest or even a nice little pile of treasure or tables and bunks.
A pile of furs and things like that would be cool too.

It is looking certain that this first set will not have accessories. But I too wouldn't mind a miniature or two in each set that would be dungeon dressings.

I'd want any accessories to also be items that would double for things like animated objects, mimics, etc.

Dear Erik, one of the hardest mini's to come by is a paladin with a two handed sword, male. Which is odd, seeing as it seems fairly iconic. Almost all of the DDM and Reaper minis feature a shield/bastard sword combo or some such. I tried to find such a mini for a friend 2 years ago and was surprisingly stymied.
That's funny, because I played a two-hander-wielding paladin for about eight years a while back. I'll keep my eye out for a good time to put one into one of these sets.

Males and Females of this type are needed. :)

Put my vote down for skirmish rules.

I think a good way to handle it might be to put out a book that corresponds to each set, that one would purchase separately, if they were interested in the skirmish rules. That way, the cost/price of the miniatures themselves would be unaffected. Conversely, it could be as a card deck that simply contained one card for each miniature, again, in a seperate purchase pack. I would prefer a book though, along the lines of Wizards' Ultimate Missions series that they had brought out in conjunction with each of the first three Star Wars miniatures sets. The major bonus being that these books included a couple of maps, in addition to game variants and scenarios.

I'm unfamiliar with this approach, but it sounds like one of few that I could support for Paizo, because their business model rests upon support for the APs. Almost any other kind of collectible skirmish miniatures game that I can imagine would have its own business needs for X number of miniatures of Y desirability and Z rarity for totally different customer demand reasons, and that's what its manager would respond to.

The only good alternative that I can think of is just to create a forum for players to hash out their own rules. Then, you can be sure that the rules would get updated and balanced against the sets, instead of the other way around.

One day is fine for an AP, not for a case. Of course I am trying like some have suggested to buy Paizo Gift certificates to curtail this.

Just a note that you haven't actually been charged for that shipment yet; what you're seeing is an authorization; essentially, we're checking to see if your card *can* be charged. If it can, the proper amount is put on hold for us to officially charge in the next few days; if enough credit isn't available, you'd get an email letting you know that.
Of course, most banks put a hold on funds when an authorization happens, which can cause problems. Which is why I leave my subscriptions tied to a credit card. When the pre-authorizations happen I can then safely move money around as needed without having to worry about ill timed overdrafts.

Lots of good suggestions here! To be clear, if I buy gift certificates and apply them for store credit, will that automatically be used first on a case subscription? Because that would be awesome for bad budgeters like me.

I'm *pretty* sure there is a checkbox on the payment method or shipping screen that says 'use any store credit first'

Is the Pre-Order subscription still expected to ship in December? Since it's the holiday season, I'd like to know if it will ship then or in January since the payment will be made when it ships. Thanks!

We don't have a concrete date yet, but *if* it makes December, it would probably be the last week of the month. Early January is probably more likely.

I think it's probably the kid who got HeroQuest for Christmas talking here, but yes; I absolutely would love more dressing. I still have Heroquest and have attempted to use the furniture from that before but the scale is slightly too small... I'd be happy with 1-3 per set, or an encounter pack.

As long as it's not as obnoxious as those bookcases. They never stayed on the board long as the players couldn't see their heroes. Still, for tables and desks (and torture racks), I put my vote in. Yes, please.

Agree. A Caryatid Column could double as dressing or a monster. Ideally anything that can double as dressing or an encounter, like as some have suggested mimics or animated objects would be a plus. Chairs, beds, candelabras, altars, braziers, etc. would all be most welcome in future sets.

Okay, so I got a case. If it were anyone but you guys, I wouldn't pay $6 for a plastic mini no matter how well painted. *grumbles*

So are you going to make a Paizo box for storing these things in now?

With all the talk of item miniatures. I had an idea. Make a 3d printer and then make the item miniatures on that and then sell them.

Even better idea! PMG should invent and market a Shrink Ray and sell it through Paizo so we can all make our own item miniatures!

If the prepainted convenience isnt terribly valuable to you then buying them individually is a little pricey relative to other options, I guess (especially with shipping costs). However, if you're buying them by the case, there's no way you're paying $6 per mini. $3 is my estimate (including international shipping) but even if I'm overestimating the number of minis in a case, I cant imagine it's any more than $4 each.

Btw, I presume the different 'expected arrival times' listed under the product availability section is just a glitch of some sort? In that, whenever they do arrive, preorders of bricks will be filled at the same time as preorders of cases and standard boosters?

My understanding is that a case will be four brick displays wrapped up in shrinkwrap, so the picture is bound to be pretty boring.

Also, it doesn't exist yet. We built the images up now off the design files for the packaging, and the packaging is still being printed.

I've been thinking about what you said, and it occurred to me that simply cloning the brick image and putting up a picture of four of them together would communicate clearly what a case is.

Have Paizo ever used a Minotaur in an AP?

They are on the Random Encounters table in Conquest of Bloodsworn Vale, at the very least. (Don't know of any other appearances off hand, but I just ran an encounter with a couple minotaurs last night...)

Actually, the H&M set adds Seelah, Iconic Paladin, so 5 are accounted for now (and there's 2 unrevealed minis in that set still - so possibly another iconic?).

We've said that our intent is to have one or two iconics in each set. Heroes & Monsters has one.

Any updates on date as it now shows early January as expected release date? I would hate to have it jump back to early December or even mid December if I have spent my mini money on extra goodies for friends and family for Christmas. I know you guys are doing your best, but if you guys could confirm not before the holidays it would be great to know. Looking forward to my minis.

I'm pretty sure they've said that we'll be lucky to see them even in the *last* week of December, but more likely January. :-(

I don't think there is *any* chance we'll see them any sooner (much to my chagrin).

Yeah, I love to use set dressing and props in combination with a 1" rid map, but it can be really hard to find pre-painted items on a 25mm-28mm scale.

At various times I've used 00 scale railroad miniatures (close to the right size and usually pre-painted, but mostly modern type items), Lego or Playmobil pieces (more fantasy/Medieval items than the railroads, but entirely the wrong scale), FRPG terrain miniatures from any number of companies (25mm-28mm readily available with a wide selection of props suitable for pseudo-Medieval FRPGs, but almost always unpainted) and even some animal figures from Papo / Schleich /Safari Toys, but again the scale is wrong, so that's limited to RPG creatures that come in Dire or Giant versions.

Just want to say that I am really liking the spiders in today's preview and would like to put forth that more vermin/animals make their way into future sets as well.

This was one of the short falls that I percieved with DDM. Animals/vermin (includeing fiendish/celestial) didn't see much love through the first few sets. Total of 8 out of 272 minis in the first four sets with over half being rares. (9 if you count the warg subbing for wolf). Though they did see more of a come back in later sets. It took a long time before summoners or GM's who like to use animals as low level encounters were able to have resonable representatives.

Yes please, more in the same formula. Pairs in different sizes. Don't be afraid to bring back the Tiny miniature either. We still need more familiars and other nusiance critters. Any size Centipedes and Tiny, Large and Huge Snakes would be awesome!

Yeah, I only keep the cards for the weird crap that I want to sell. DDM has a lot of minis that are completely unrecognizable to me as anything remotely related to D&D/Pathfinder. So I try to sell them. (And try to get ones I really want on the secondary market or from Paizo).

I used to feel this way until I started researching deeper into some of these "weirdo" minis. Rest assured that with DDM and with Pathfinder Battle's all of these creatures have origins within the respective game system's somewhere. I found that new sets forced me to expand my knowledge of some of these things. In many cases I was pleasantly surprised at what I learned. And in a few cases I found need of mini's I had traded of thinking I had no use for them when eventually I actually did. I'm not saying you have to cherish every mini put out, but just because you're not familiar with a particular creature don't be so hasty to abandon it. Some of my most interesting discoveries: Thoon Hulk, Bladelings and Blues. Mind you, some of these minis caused me to have to get rulebooks that covered them which significantly increased their price. :)

Absolutely! I'm hoping that one of the encounter packs can help to fill out the ranks of goblins. And maybe that one of the two yet unknown guys has some sort of missile weapon, spear or otherwise. And you know what I find suspiciously missing from H&M? Where is the Hobgoblin? There needs to be someone to push around all these Goblins, and I fear the Ogre just isn't bright enough for the task!

Quick lesson on how release dates for Pathfinder Battles work:

WizKids plans a set with a particular release date, and sets deadlines intended to get the product out at that time. Eventually, they deliver everything to manufacturing in China, and, around that time, they'll get an expected ship date, and an expected arrival date, and WizKids will use that info to set a release date. (This is a few months prior to release.) Now, sometimes, things don't make the ship date, so there are delays there... but even if they leave China on time, there are many steps of somewhat unpredictable duration after the leave China. These days, the actual boats are usually on very timely schedules, but once the boat arrives, it has to be inspected, and the individual shipments have to clear customs, and then the items have be picked up from the port and delivered somewhere else, and any one of those steps can happen surprisingly fast or surprisingly slow. What this means is that the release date usually isn't finalized until the product arrives in the manufacturer's warehouse.

To give you a real-world example, the release date for the Beginner Box Heroes set had actually slipped backwards by almost a month at one point, and then ended up coming forward by almost two weeks so that the ultimate release date was about two weeks later than the original target.

Now, we'll do our best to keep you apprised of the situation here, but it's important that you realize that things can and will move either way almost until the last minute.

Right now, the best info we have says that the Heroes & Monsters release will be in early January. If it moves, it's much more likely that it will move later rather than earlier, but until it's in the warehouse, anything is possible.

I like the idea of selecting which weapon I want for the frost giant. Although now I have to find a safe place to store the extra parts so they don't get lost. I'm also worried that this is going to further increase demand for the Frost Giant, making it even harder to pick up extras of on the secondary market or by trading. It would have been nice to be able to choose the color of the dragon head for the Chimera in the same manner.

I would be happier with this if they had a starter concept. So if I could buy a bunch of undead for a 40 bucks. Or maybe a bunch of minis that work for encounters in a particular adventure path.

I got the heroes for my birthday they look pretty nice, but I can't really pay those prices for goblins .

Oh man, that would be awesome!

As to a bunch of undead/goblins/whatever Jim, they will be doing Encounter Packs which will be themed stuff like that.

I don't mind the random format as I understand how it keeps productions costs and inventory overhead down.

However, am I the only one on this thread that thinks the minis are way too cartoony with very little depth? Give them a dark inkwash or something, please. After collecting thousands of DDM minis, I'm not impressed by these minis at all. Paizo should be shooting for the height of DDM which was the bloodwar set. Thats the quality and design brass ring. These look like they are cartoons.

I believe the brightness of the models was in part due to the fact that the initial previews were of digital sculpts. The more recent ones are actual production models and to me look a lot better.

Personally, I like the brighter colors. I always felt that the DnD minis were a bit too dark. I like lots of color and even the stuff I paint myself tends not to have much in the way of dark washes.

Heroes & Monsters has more washes than Beginner Box Heroes (which has none). We aren't using them on every mini, but when appropriate, we've added them.

IMHO it can go either way depending on the miniature. Some PC type miniatures really don't need as heavy an ink wash. Also, there is a tendency to make the washes too dark. Sometime a lighter wash, just a shade or two darker than the base color is all that is needed to bring out the details in the miniature. I would agree that sometimes the ink wash was too dark on some of the DDMs. But when you have a great sculpt with loads of detail, you do not want to lose the opportunity to show off that detail by not including a nice wash in the process.

Got my set today, I think those are amazing.

The only peeve I have is that my Merisiel looks like she has no eyes, but has painted black stripes right under where her eyes should be.

Based on the other figures, I doubt those two thick black bars are supposed to be her eyes, so I think my mini is missing something. Or are they all like that?
