I just had to comment on this because it has pissed me off in the past.

Cyberpunk 2020/FNF may have looked good but it was super unrealistic, you could be shot with an AP round from a 7,62 assault rifle at close range while wearing just a flak t-shirt and you would just get a scratch... ridiculous.

Let me see -- Ap round halves armor, A [bkevlar[/b] t-shirts was SP 10, meaning 5 (a flak jacket was sp 20 or 10 against ap), the 7.62 was popping 6d6+2 dice meaning 23 damage meaning 11 points after penetrating the armor putting you at critical if the shot hit where the armor was covering. If it hit you in the brain bucket that would be 46 damage (halved is 23 again) with no SP and your brains scattered all over kingdom come (putting you deep in mortality 3). At the point you are at critical your Int, Ref, and CL stats are automatically halved, and you have to make a stun save at -2 or be useless for the rest of combat.

Oh by the way if that bullet hit an arm or leg instead, that limb would have been shattered in cyberpunk and instead of being at critical you would be at mortal 9 and have to make an immediate death save.

So yeah if you are extremely lucky and the gun flukes out and you get minimum damage you get to be that one in a million that came out okay while just wearing kevlar -- otherwise you're parts... meaning loot.

Except with an ap round the damage that slips through is halved wich makes it ((23 - 5) / 2) - 2 (average BTM) = 7 wich is a serious wound... so yeah it was not a scratch but the fact that that is the average dmg from a heavy assault rifle at close with AP rounds versus the weakest armor in the game is ofc totally ludicrous in reality the flak t-shirt would not do a damn thing and you would be super dead.

First off -- a kelvar t-shirt isn't the weakest armor in the game. And the 7.62 isn't the best gun in the game, and AP rounds aren't the best in the game.

Secondly over-penetration is a regular problem with AP rounds. Many people regularly survive being shot by the 7.62 -- in fact you would not be super dead if you were shot by an AP round from a 7.62 automatically. This was especially a problem in the world wars when people would get shot trying to help those that were crying about just being shot -- sometimes up to hours later.

Also a serious wound is not "Without a scratch" -- you are -2 on all reflex based actions and still have to make the stun save to simply be active.

Finally you are completely ignoring what happens the 70% of the time you are not shot in the chest where you are protected by that t-shirt. 60% of the time is going to be a limb shot which, even at 1/2 damage is going to blow the limb off (which only takes 8 points of damage or more) leaving you immediately at mortal 0, bleeding out and very much out of the fight. 10% of the time is going to be a head shot which is going to deal double damage (which after halving for ap is going to be regular damage) which leaves you even more dead. So in summation 30% of the time that shirt might prevent you from being dead if hit with an AP round from a 7.62 heavy assault rifle -- and even then you are seriously injured might be incapable of action, and are taking penalties.

That sir isn't "without a scratch" and if you think it is -- well I'm sorry for you.

Grand Lodge

I so miss Gming Cyberpunk 2020. I don't think I've ever had as much fun nuking players for being stupid as I did then. It only took 3 or 4 TPKs to get them to understand that guns, especially automatic guns, are !@#$ing dangerous and will get you dead real fast.

Other lessons:
The paper thin walls of flops don't stop automatic shotgun fire. I learned that one when one of the players took out my entire death squad while they stood in the hall getting ready to breach the door.
"As soon as I hear them stop moving I unload the clip."

Grenades hurt.

Famous last words...."Are you sure you ALL want to go full cyborg?"

When I got a chance to play instead of GM I always paid extra for DP rounds just in case.
