DM Aron Marczylo |
It is better than fighting a Great Wyrm Red Dragon in any combat.
Well the difference would be from what I can see is that you'd be "Hot under the collar" :D Seriously though, they are nasty.
DM Aron Marczylo |
I do not like this. But, Bron, I believe you are the only noble in this party. If we are to try the man and allow him to answer for his crimes, I believe that it should be you who leads. Personally, I think that we should turn him and the others over to the Swordlords until such time as we have a proper judicial system established here.
Bwhahahahhaha...sorry couldn't contain the laughter however very good roleplaying and I'm surprised this has gone as long as it has :)
DM Aron Marczylo |
Lol - yeh, funny isn't it. Gotta wonder how long he will keep that hidden from me. Bats her innocent eyes.
well in a part of roleplaying that I absolutely LOVED he was talking with Ganit and nearly told him, first stating that he didn't feel like he had the right to be a ruler, but Ganit stopped him short, telling him how everyone has skeletons in their closet and that shouldn't hold people back.
Loved that moment, it was almost rehursed with how good it was.
DM Aron Marczylo |
Yep - I liked that one. It will be interesting seeing how many skeletons we can drag out of the closet of those two.
oh I've got many skeletons to drag out of everywhere.

Zorestar Lebeda |
Zorestar would like the amulet of natural armor +1. He may also want the ring of protection +1, but only if nobody else claims it. Ganit, shall I add these to my character sheet now, or shall I wait until we get back to Oleg's and actually make the trade?
Carina Stigard |
I would not mind the Ring +1, but I think that it is better for Bron on the front line. I will take some of the jewelry,
Just for fun, I will take 1500 worth of jewelry.
Gold necklace with a sapphire pendant - 750gp.
Gold ring with a sapphire and two small diamonds. - 300gp.
Platinum bracelet with Aquamarine and Lapis Lazuli - 450gp
3127.25gp.
If this is not in the jewelry, let me know and I will make up something else. Carina likes blue stones as they match her blue eye. She is unsure about red stones for her red eye, but if someone wants to get her something, she would not complain.
The Hermit Ganit D'Artain |
Alright so here's what we have:
Bronwyn Mwk Chain Shirt, Ring of Protection +1 & Gold: 3502.27
Carina 1500g of Jewelry & Gold: 3127.25
Ganit +1 Composite Longbow [+2 STR] & Gold: 3477.25
Jameson Gold: 4627.25
Telias Gold: 4627.25
Zorestar Amulet of Natural Armor & Gold: 3627.25
I'd say everyone can add whatever gear they're claiming to their sheets but the gold will have to wait until we get back to town and sell stuff. To be safe we can head to the big city so we our full cuts.
I'm surprised no one's jumping for the +1 longsword.
Sir Bronwyn Raslov |
I figure since I have teh feat for the bastard sword I might as well keep using it. From 5th level onward I will be able to enchant it, so that's a good deal. Armor will be a major pain in the ass (since I'll need to keep switching to heavier armor as I gain levels).
I'd also like that belt buckle with the entwinning succubi. Looks studly.
The Hermit Ganit D'Artain |
It's the next morning so you should be fully charged and ready to go. You could switch to throwing spears if you don't want to risk using all of your spells for the day.
While I'm here, another game I'm playing in is seeking to bolster their rosters. It's still a bit early in the campaign and folks are still getting a feel for their characters and interpersonal relations so introductions should be easy enough. The rules for character creation are pretty neat so check it out if you're feeling like one more game would give your life a bit of sparkle. I really enjoy the players on this board so any of you would be a welcomed addition. Here's a link: A New Start Recruitment
Carina Stigard |
As a note, I will be away from home for the next week. Should be able to post in the morning and evening, but there are no guarantees. If I miss a day and am holding something up, please have someone post for me. I doubt I will miss a day, but one never knows being in the road.
The Hermit Ganit D'Artain |
I posted for round 2 but I guess it would help if I chose a target... lets say: AH35 to help Carina out. Those rolls don't include Bron's inspire courage.
DM Alexander Kilcoyne |
Aron, what I do for large fights is present the initiative order something like this and update it mid-round etc. whenever I update.
Ordered Initiative-
Big Bad Necromancer with Ridiculous Initiative- 95
Big Bad Necromancer's minion with Ridiculous Initiative- 87
Heroic Mr. PC Fighter- 21
Scholarly Ms. PC Wizardess- 19
Dubious Mr. PC Rogue- 17
Skeletal Horde- 15
Zombie T-Rexes- 13
Preaching Ms. PC Cleric- 12
Ugly Mr. PC Barbarian- 9
So essentially- I use italics to represent who has already acted and bold to show whose actions i'm waiting on. Once everyone up to skeletal horde has acted, i'd update again with the actions of the skeletal horde and zombie t-rexes and present the initiative order again like so-
Ordered Initiative-
Big Bad Necromancer with Ridiculous Initiative- 95
Big Bad Necromancer's minion with Ridiculous Initiative- 87
Heroic Mr. PC Fighter- 21
Scholarly Ms. PC Wizardess- 19
Dubious Mr. PC Rogue- 17
Skeletal Horde- 15
Zombie T-Rexes- 13
Preaching Ms. PC Cleric- 12
Ugly Mr. PC Barbarian- 9
It seemed like in your big fight, people (including DM) barely knew whose action was due etc., it all became very messy.
DM Aron Marczylo |
I did not mean to be critical, because I am really enjoying this game, but something like that would be very helpful!
yeah I assumed the group was short enough and fine, which is why I had done the bolding with the Stag Lord encounter, though I think I should do as both you and Alex suggest.
DM Alexander Kilcoyne |
DM Aron Marczylo |
When you run/play as many games as I do, that attitude quickly leads to RSI :P.
Probably will happen to me one day :p
Sir Bronwyn Raslov |
This is actually the first game I played that survived that dreaded first month period. Ever since I entered in two other games, and boy was I disappointed.
I honestly thought the way Aron handles things was standard issue in the forums, but as I got a little experience I got to see how much effort he puts in this. The other games I play don't use maps, so it's a pain to predict your action and the entire oppportunity attacks shtick.

It's not for a shotage of Alex telling me how to improve and how he does things and his first suggestion before DMing was to get maptools.
I've noticed in some campaigns where for the generic enemy NPCs they just put numbers or in one campaign I'm in, the DM just uses a single generic alias for male NPCs and another for female NPCs. If you look at my profile you'll see I have loads of alias' for different NPCs, both from this campaign and campaigns that died for one reason or another. I'll keep them for future fampaign uses if I find a use for them.
DM Alexander Kilcoyne |
Thanks Aron. I stealthily re-purpose aliases from minor NPC's myself. Akiros, Kressle, etc. all keep their aliases but some minor characters from Kingmaker chapter 1 have now been renamed and made into PC aliases for some of the games I play in... I think i'm well over 60 aliases now so its become kind of essential.

I have a fair bit, though some is random PCs that I made in hopes of getting a game space. Here's one of my fav that got a game, Godelina Evelyn and another one cause I liked being emo with this character, Denis Dubosc though as Alex would tell you it's probably because I quite like half-breeds :p. Dunno why, find the concept so interesting I even have blood of fiends and waiting for blood of angels and the advanced race guide.
I quite like my Gnome character in a game both me and Carina are in as he has quite a interesting backstory for being a summoner, though I know Alex doesn't like them so I know that he'd never get into one of his games :p.
Carina Stigard |
I have not decided how I will use the alias' when I run my campaign. Might start a second account just for aliases and run that one in Firefox, I use either Safari or Chrome for my main account.
And I think that I am probably in a game with almost everyone at this point. Only up to 13 or 14 actives, had several die on me. Aron's Gnome character is just scared that my wee little ranger might just decide that everyone is a worthless city person and wipe out the entire party to help cleanse the land of the tain of the city.
Also, how do you guys import the pics into Maptools? I have been putting the maps together for the campaign that I am going to run - (I decided to alter the original module maps to confuse anyone who has played the PC version of the module.) But as I have a Mac, the program to create icons does not seem to work, is there an easy way to create the little pictures for the PC and NPCs?
TarkXT |
Hunt them down. Every archive you can find and set the folder you stick them into as the library to yank them from. It's where I get all my wonderful stuff. If I need seomthing I can usually find what I'm looking for. If not I've gathered quite a big folder of things from which to make it.
I stopped trying to make tokens. Usually I can just snatch them from elsewhere.
DM Aron Marczylo |
As Alex said, I use token tools, click and drag character portraits off the forum and then put them into token tool.
With maptools oyu can designate while files to get images from, usually for tokens to represent monsters or something, but for APs I take a screen print of the map, crop and alter it in paint if needed and then put it in the file that I access via maptools and drag it out as a background image. Then I try to get the grid to fit the image, rarther than the other way around.
As said before you can only get it to "kinda" fit and not 100% fit but just rough neough that everyone knows where to go. For NPCs or unique monsters I try to find the most interesting picture from them, which is where Google helps a lot :)
Sir Bronwyn Raslov |
Updated my sheet with hyperlinks everywhere! Also linked a photo reference of Bronwyn on a good hair day.
So Aron is the stuff in the Advanced Races Guide allowed for this game? There are a couple Changeling stuff Carina would maybe like to have (actually there's interesting stuff there for everyone).

Great - now Bron thinks that he is Thor.
If you have the changeling stuff, I would like to see it. I do not have the Advanced Races Guide.
Sir Bronwyn Raslov |
Actually I picked the avatar based on that guy.
Well, the changeling stuff comprises three alternate racial traits (once for each type of Hag Racial Trait), favored class options (for Oracle, Rogue and Wizard, sadly not sorcerer), one racial archetype (for the Witch class), one NEAT feat and one spell. I'll reproduce the stuff you could use:
Mist Child: When the changeling has concealment or total concealment, the miss chance of attacks against her increases by 5%. This racial trait replaces hulking changeling.
You inherit a special boon from your hag parent.
Prerequisite: Changeling.
Benefit: Your dark legacy manifests in one of the following ways. You choose the manifestation when you choose the feat, and once selected it cannot be changed.
Hag Claws (Ex): You gain a +1 bonus on attack and damage rolls with your claws.
Surprisingly Tough (Ex): Your natural armor bonus increases by +1.
Uncanny Resistance (Su): You gain spell resistance equal to 6 + your character level.
Special: You can gain this feat up to three times. Its effects do not stack. Each time you take the feat, you must select a different manifestation.
