@edross
I also don't like the ninja and the whole bunch of eastern stuff but i don't see the ninja as overpowered (have not seen one in action yet), the rogue is the one who was underpowered and needed a fix/boost, yes i don't like how Paizo did that by giving eastern fluff but i think i can guess why they did it (i have heard that recently Paizo went to the japanesse market and did fairly well there).
Yes i am going to ban ninjas from my games (after i see one in action) because i don't like their theme, same with samurais, eastern weapons and armor and the guns (again after seeing them in action), but i am prepared to have to find a fix/boost for the rogue myself if needed. I am glad that Paizo fixed the rogue because they have done a part of the job for me.

@Leo1925: You know, you could just refluff them right? I'm just saying. The Ninja I'm playing right now doesn't behave, or even look, like a ninja, it's not that hard for someone to run one in a game, and no one but that player know it as a ninja. The first clue would be when someone throws a fireball and he doesn't have evasion.

My current character is a ninja I've played it for months, have yet to be forced to use a single move an ordinary rogue can't, and the only reason anyone knows I'm a ninja is because I announced it.

Some of the abilities need a lot of re-fluff (katana prof. for one) but yes that's what i would do if and when someone wants to play a ninja, also i am going to change a few abilities that feel too eastern for me.

Give them Aldori Dueling swords, those are probably better weapons anyway, 5% improved chance to crit doesn't equal whatever change in hit/damage they will get, suddenly the class loses a bit of MAD.

Aldori dueling swords sound like a very good solution to that problem.

Thank you.

My half orc Ninja is being done as a scarlet pimpernel/daring dragoon style Highwayman, the Ocher Orc (yes he wears orange). The katana is a female orc's falchion (when you're done with that, we can give it to my daughter-13th warrior)

Ok i didn't get a lot of the references in that post, what is the scarlet pimpernel? what orange? Ocher orc?

Sort of this classic literature based secret identity hero type who rescued french nobles from the guillotine; more info can be found here.

-The original Dual identity secret hero. This fictional masked character rescued french nobility from the hoards of bloodthirsty peasants during the aftermath of the french revolution while pretending to be a rich dilettante fop.

-The daring dragoon

The ochre orc is the characters highwayman/adventurer persona.

Ochre is a shade of orange. He's a ninja wearing orange, which is a reference to highly visible ninja in general and naturo specifically.

Thank you for explaining the reference.

Question to DMs banning the ninja:

You are banning the ninja because it is better than the rogue.
Wizards, clerics and druids are better than the rogue.
Does that mean you are banning wizards, clerics and druids as well?

I am banning* it because i don't like the flavor, along with guns.

*That is after i see each one in action, because i am curious.

I am banning the ninja as it is an archetype that took rogue talents from the rogue for no reason other then to justify not calling this archetype an archetype. Mechanically it is a very small archetype if you call the ninja tricks what they are, rogue talents.

I allow all the "ninja tricks" as rogue talents ( as that is what they are) and allow the ninja as an archetype with the ki pool and light steps being 2nd archetype.

First paragraph, "ninjas suck cause I dont want eastern in my western fantasy" < irrelevant argument.

Second paragraph, the fluff implied... Uhh no fluff is not and was never intended to be concrete, if I want my barbarian to be animal loving and worship nature it doesnt mean I have to play a druid. You can call your ninja a prissy loud richboy if you want, the fluff of the class is irrelevant.

Third paragraph, a 4d4 greatsword would very easily break the game in numerous ways, low levels would be a walk in the park, crits would be worse then they already are and vital strike would go from situational to OP. Balance means it doesnt make cr appropriate encounter irrelevant, theres power creep and theres unbalance, they are not the same thing. Power creep is usually considered bad because it pigeonholes builds because those options do everything for you, but if the rogue was so bad only hardcore fans use them then it isnt power creep to release something people will actually use, and those same rogue fans will play rogues to their death. So nothing changed for the rogue.

Yeah, this was about my interpretation as well.
