FWIW, I had a player disappear in my Kingmaker campaign (now at second level) and MAY be recruiting a replacement (am checking with my players to see if they'd rather continue with just five or add someone new; I'm happy either way so will probably go with the majority decision).

I'm happy to just check here if you all continue to look in for another day or so and Patcher doesn't mind if I hijack his thread.

Kragath:
At first she saw your regal bearing and could sense the aura of good that surrounded you, (or at least thought she could) and assumed you must have been a paladin. Since her master was (not-as-secretly-as-he wished) a necromancer, he taught her that even though she wasn't bent towards the more vile acts of her chosen trade, that she should be able to identify and avoid such figures whenever possible.
When she saw your holy symbol of Abadar, she chalked her initial suspicions up to paranoia. Since she is familiar with the church (skilled in knowledge: Religion and could easily pass the take 10 chance to identify the deity and his basic tenets) and is rather prejudiced against them, viewing them as a bunch of greedy, gold-mongering profiteers, she deduced (incorrectly, of course, mostly since paladins of Abadar are rare and she's never seen or heard of one) that you were more likely a hired mercenary attached to the church as an agent. Likely assigned to tasks that would no doubt aid in the filling of the church coffers and the spread of their noble-serving filth...er, propaganda... ummm... I mean beliefs. =)

She likely would have been quite shocked the first time she saw you smite evil or use another of the paladin class signature powers, not quite sure how to act around you after it was clear that you were, indeed, a paladin of Abadar. She may have tried to talk to you about how it came that the church was accepting and training holy knights in a religion so dedicated to self-service. (or so SHE thinks) She certainly would prefer travelling with a paladin of such a god as Abadar than to traffic with a servant of Iomedae or Saranrae, who would likely invite her to a bonfire party in her honor.

Knowing that Teien left so soon after I did makes me regret a bit that I didn't stick it out and get the opportunity to roleplay this.

I see I see. Yeah, if you had been in the party it would have been very intriguing.

Sorry to see Rorgrym not make it, not that Carnivyx would have accepted an offer to stroll the banks of the Sellen River alone with him to 'discuss philosophy' any time soon!

If you can say that, then you've clearly never had the pleasure of discussing philosophy with a dwarf along the banks of the Sellen.

I assume there's a great deal of ale involved? :)

And pickles!

DM Patcher only please:
I appreciate you taking the time to reply but you've left me more befuddled than I was before.

I thought I had been doing a good job in the LoF game and was enoying it (despite the other problems) and I'm a bit taken aback that, for the month that we played, you were dissatisfied with me. The game is a collaboration between players and GM; if this was so important then why didn't you say something to me? I post the way I do for a very specific reason but it would have been no effort at all to change to something that would have satisfied you more. Isn't the player and GM working together part of what the game is all about?

As for causing stress and tension, I can understand why you wouldn't want to do that but do you think it feels any better to have been strung along for 5 days getting invested in a character that was never going to be selected? Or to get passed over for someone who followed none of your posting or roleplaying guidelines (which is what made me think about this in the first place)? Why did you even let me apply at all?

A GM has expectations but so do players. Why didn't you just say, in the LoF OOC thread, "Yantur, could you please be more descriptive when stating your actions?" and I would have said, "Sure." And it would have been problem solved. That's what I expect from a GM; if not as a simple courtesy to the player then for the sake of the game at least. Thinking that I was doing a good job in LoF I now feel that I contributed to its failure, however unknowingly, and I feel bad about that.

Was my posting style (which was not listed as being important in your opening post) really so egregious a flaw that it trumped someone who posted little and roleplayed not at all (both of which you had listed as very important)? I realise now that I had no chance in either game due to something of which was, apparently, critical importance yet I had never been made aware of it. It's very deflating to think you're doing a good job when the GM actually thinks you suck because, as a player, you didn't meet some secret objective.

A simple, "Post actions more descriptively," would have solved the entire issue and I'm baffled at what point I angered/disappointed/insulted you that you wouldn't show me that one simple courtesy.

Sorry to ramble on so long like this but I feel as if I've been blind-sided by an 18-wheeler and in almost 35 years of gaming I've never felt more depressed and confused as to why. Your answer just confuses me; you list one problem that could have been solved in 5 seconds. At what point did I offend so badly that I wasn't worth that fraction of time?

Hmmm....define "a great deal." ;)

But no pickles. There isn't enough ale in the world to make a cucumber soaked in brine until it goes bad appetizing. ;)

Rorgrym:

I'm sorry. I know I should have mentioned something, but being a coward I didn't. I hate offending people - though this is equally insulting. Not to hide behind an excuse, but I do have difficulties with people socially, and asking anything of others is something I'm too scared to do - and that is my fault. You never insulted me, or offended me.

If I can make this up for you, I will ask Evan if he is content giving you the spot (because in retrospect, you're right - you do deserve the spot more). If he isn't, I'll make room for you anyway.

I can offer only apologies. I did not mean to insinuate that you are a poor roleplayer just because I fail at communicating. If you want the spot (despite my horrible faux pas) then you will have it - though I will not blame you if you're too put off by now.

About the LoF game: you didn't "contribute to its failure" - the reason I closed the game was because it had slowed down to a crawl, and was too slow for my tastes.

I should have been better at communicating. And again, that is my fault. I apologise once more.

I don't mind at all, I'm glad to see that others may be getting a chance to play.

Motteditor: still around if ya need another player, have many concepts, not heart set on anyone at this point

Sorry, guys, everyone voted to just go forward with five for the moment. I apologize if I got anyone's hopes up.

DM Patcher:
I apologise for the late response here. I greatly appreciate the offer to join, I just wasn't expecting it so I didn't follow the thread as closely as I should have (I was really just trying to convey why I felt confused and frustrated though I later feared that my post would come across as overbearing). If the rest of the group is fine with that decision, I'll cheerfully join. I just need a little bit of time to read the OOC and IC threads (which I haven't looked at at all). No one needs to wait up for me though; Rorgrym will come huffin' and puffin' along with some excuse as to why he's late.

Rorgrym:

I've already arranged how you're to join (though you'll have to stalk the thread ever so slightly for that) - when the party arrives at Oleg's trading post (1 IC day away), you've already arrived to fix rooms and a deal with the owner. Background-wise, I was thinking you were hired in one way or the other by Krovax Lightbringer (Kragath's father) to join the group to watch over his son (to make sure he doesn't die).

The OOC Thread ishere and the IC thread is here.

I apologise for what I've done, and hope this makes it up for you. I will communicate with you through the OOC thread if I feel something is lacking, so we don't get another disaster. Feel free to join the others in the OOC discussions, as you're officially in, and everybody is waiting to welcome you.
