"Melon speaks Tien and is familiar with many foreign cultures"As Navior says, the natural in-character assumption would that Melon is a blowhard who can't possibly have done everything she says she's done. Except that, due to her on-going insistence on the treasure being Tien with zero in-game evidence that it's so, she's instead going to come across as preternaturally intelligent and wise when she turns out to be right. So you have, in fact, given her the benefit of having Knowledge (geography) trained when it's not, in the eyes of the party, anyway.
Not to worry, she does not as yet speak Tien - and I've only ever claimed the items are Tien based on my assumption at the time that it was reasonable for Melon to know given her childhood with Ameiko. Don't recall Tienifying things since. One would swear you're a woman the way you drag back posts from like page 2 or something ;P
Corinna is smart enough anyway with a day or two's observation of Melon to come to her own conclusions about the validity of Melon's claims in general. And she too, after all, agrees that it could very well be a Tien fan; just that there are a number of other candidates that are similarly viable. That's not really an option in Melon's eyes because she doesn't have a rank in knowledge (geography) and thus isn't as informed about the ways her opinion is narrow-minded. (She doesn't know what she doesn't know.)
On the plus side, there's a ring of climbing so Melon can have her good Climb skill now. :P
She can climb circles around Corinna as is :D And one of these days Navior will grant us a level. Presumably the Charisma crowd should now be level 2 after the cave I'm guessing.
Besides, Melon's not particularly keen on loot (though won't say no to rewards) - other than having the means to spend it on useless things like good food, cheap booze and fun.

Meh. I've just lost all enthusiasm for the character. The idea was that she get drawn in with the group against her better judgment, discover she's actually pretty good at wizarding, and not want to go back to the academic life. Instead, she has a record of unremitting failure that just proves she has no business adventuring and makes her long to run back to her ivory tower and lock the door behind her. The dice have been against her from the beginning. Out of 12 Spellcraft rolls, two 1's, three 4's, a 5, 6 & 8? Really?
Yeah, Malan was nice to her, but he's not very chatty; in his defense he's been unconscious a lot of the time. Melon likes her but is so deeply creepy and off-putting and unaware of personal boundaries that Corinna would rather she avoid her.
LoreKeeper |
hahaha - you guys are hilarious :) - Malan's great to have around: we are an eclectic party where the two front-liners are both 3/4 base attack. It takes a certain gutsy panache to do that. And we could only do that because of solid magical (and ranged) backup behind us.
Corinna's last 4 rolls were all above 10 (sure, they were done for by Navior on her behalf, but he's also the one that rolled an amazing low-streak for her). She identified all the items that are interesting (who cares about stupid potions anyway :P). I don't think Corinna's spell list is conducive to dice rolls anyway: it's how I'd build a caster, lots of spells that have guaranteed effects. None of this getting lucky with the dice. She could even use the wand of identify to aptly demonstrate her superior arcane abilities and at the same time identify everything we got.

That's actually the same thing I was thinking. Technically, she identified the most important item in the pile.
How many times did Urza have to try to identify items on Smuggler's Shiv? Sometimes it just takes a while, especially at 1st level.

Man, I just died on this one! :)
Okay, first we got this... Click on the "Navior" spoiler and read the first line. It's quite an interesting statement. ;)
(By the way, still waiting on the compartmentalization there, Lore.) :)
Then there is this(Wander Weir's post)... which we are hoping one day actually comes true. :)
I just wanna say this was inspired by this...
One would swear you're a woman the way you drag back posts from like page 2 or something ;P
Keep rockin', Joana. ;)
And since we're all talking about how well we're doing as pc's, I would just like to say... The super nice guy that is Rajah, is just here to piss everybody off. Yay! I win! In your faces! Uh-huh, uh-huh, uh-huh uh-huh uh-huh! *Does a really stupid dance that should get him thrown out the game, if not the boards.* :)
p.s. Wander is right. You're first level. It happens. Even at 4th level. Even at 18 level. I mention these because it happened to me. Just recently. Have an 18 level monk(I love monks also), used flurry for 8, count 'em 8 attacks, and I only hit ONCE! ONCE! It happens. Of course, if it happens again, I'll probably just flurry and beat the crap out of myself. Thinking about it, though, I'd probably roll bad enough and still miss.
LoreKeeper |
Does anybody else also think that different characters consistently have a particular good/bad roll? I know my paladin Jemini rocks the awesome rolls - while my monk Melk rolls so abysmally poorly its appalling (I think he's not once hit something in combat - except once a provisional critical that didn't happen because combat was over before then).
(By the way, still waiting on the compartmentalization there, Lore.) :)
Hah! :)

That reminds me of a time when I was playing a 12th or 13th level monk in 3.5 when I repeatedly tried to smash a mirror and (in part due to some recently received ability damage to strength) utterly failed to do so with every attack. The mage had to do it for him. For weeks afterward, the other PCs mocked him over that. SO much shame.

"Next time", whenever that may be, they promise to put up avatars from Jade Regent; maybe they'll finally make the real Ameiko, Sandru, and Shalelu available.
Gilfroy Fezziwig |
Gilfroy is finished. Watch out now, folks, he has all sorts of new illusions, and he can now colour spray things instead of obscuring misting them. And don't forget acid splash. Gilfroy is now a combat machine.

The situation is rather weird today. Nazard is completely unable to post, but he can view and read the boards. I'm able to read and post, but the pages often stop half-way through loading and I have to hit reload a few times to get the whole page to load. Other times though, there's no problem. Oh well, hopefully it will get sorted out soon.
Joana |
You mean you haven't already? This is D&D: I thought all our characters were contractually obligated to have bad British accents. ;)
Noticed when I went to the campaign site to write the journal that Aago's still on the list of PCs; ought to switch him out with Tevyn, shouldn't we, if we're quite decided we're going to keep him?
Navior |
Finally got through everyone's level updates. Everything looks good, with just two things.
Malan is missing the armour check penalty with his Acrobatics skill.
Blue Rajah has one too many skill points. He can only have one favoured class, which is cleric since he took the bonus point last level, and so doesn't get a bonus point with paladin levels. Thus, he only gets 4 skill points this level, not 5.
All else is great. Carry on!

With the mention of the goblins in Corinna's journal, it suddenly hit me that I owe Lorekeeper and Wander Weir an apology, as their We Be Goblins characters never got to show up. I had an encounter planned out for them. I even placed hints of it as you were tracking the skeletons (Tevyn noticing the tracks of a goblin and an animal companion). I was going to have you encounter them as you came out of the caves with the treasure. But then I...forgot. Just totally forgot. Alas, since the swamp portion of this adventure is over now, there won't really be another opportunity for them to show up. So my sincerest apologies for the oversight. :(
