Pussl Ticknest |
Pussl Ticknest, also known as Stinkcloud, was one of the unfortunate young goblins who failed to meet Foofelah's approval at birth. At her insistance, the infant was left in the woods to die. Fortunately for him, he was found by an irritable old goblin druid by the name of Spuck Wasptongue who took in the baby goblin simply to spite Foofelah.
Spuck didn't have much interest in babes, however, and generally left the young goblin to the care of his collection of animals. Pussl grew up alongside a skunk, a wolverine and two wild boars who took to the vicious little creature in their charge despite his tendency to gnaw on their tails.
Once Pussl was old enough to be useful, Spuck had more interest in him, assigning him to various tasks that he generally didn't want to do and accidentally teaching the young goblin the ways of a druid. In such a manner Pussl became a druid without knowing there was any other way to live and chose his first animal companion, Stink the wolverine, because he particularly admired Stink's appreciation for bloodletting.
When Spuck was killed in an unpleasant encounter with a mother bear and her cub, Pussl took over the small dried mud den he'd lived in all his life. The other animals either died or wandered off and he now lives there alone with Stink, occasionally visiting with the other goblins and only just now realizing that he's free to do pretty much whatever he wants without Spuck around to give him orders.
Invigorated by his newfound freedom, Pussl is eager to see what kind of mischief he and Stink can get into, even if it involves his old nemesis, Foofelah.
I still am working out Pussl's equipment, but otherwise he's pretty much ready to go. He'll prefer a club for his primary weapon.

I've started up a website for the campaign. It's bare-bones at the moment, but I'll add to it gradually. You'll all be receiving e-mail invites to it shortly.
Javell, could you send me a quick e-mail again? There are a couple of lurkers on my Serpent's Skull website and I can't remember which one is your e-mail address. (If you need a reminder of my e-mail, it's way back in the first post of the Serpent's Skull OOC.) Thanks!

Anyone heard any rumors about when to expect the players' guide?
Sometime close to when the first instalment of Jade Regent comes out, which is at Gen Con. I suspect it will come out a few days before that, maybe a week before. That's the usual pattern for AP players' guides, if I recall correctly.
Joana |
Pending the players' guide release, I'm thinking of a bookish human conjuror, originally from Sandpoint but talented enough to have gone away to the Academae in Korvosa to study. Her magic is almost entirely scholarly and theoretical as opposed to practical, and she's quite timid about real-world dangers. I started running her in a Carrion Crown game that died early on and had a good time with her.
But the players' guide might spark some new ideas entirely.
Wander Weir |
I'm reluctant to commit to anything until seeing the Player's Guide, but my first instinct is to play a monk. I'm also tempted to go with either a sorcerer or a rogue (Maybe Sarien escapes to the North rather than the South, eh Joana?).
Too many possibilities. It depends largely on the Player's Guide and Ultimate Combat.
LoreKeeper |
I'm still playing with the idea of a paladin-rogue (of Sheylin) - but I must admit that Ultimate Combat can throw that idea upside down. And in that case the most likely victor would be a monk. (But don't let that deter you Wander Weir - more monks = more fun; and we can build entirely different monks to boot.)
Nazard |
I may also repurpose my gnome oracle/sorcerer from the Legacy of Fire game he's in that's slowly fading away (I think). Once the GM starts complaining in the OOC thread that the characters' attitudes, (not players', the characters' who aren't kissing the boots of one of his NPCs) are making him personally "furious", things are bound to not go well for much longer. I've just had in mind a magus who uses cones at point blank range, rather than touch attacks.
Plenty of time to decide. How comfortable are you, Navior, with folks discussing and strategizing in advance?

If you need to see Reta's post, it's in her profile. I tend to edit a lot so I'll try and not submit before I'm completely done. I just get worried when there are multiple rolls to be made. I hate it when I take too long and there is a roll that's been made. I can just feel the boards just wanting to kick me out. (Man I hate that feeling.) I always copy and paste but there is no copying and pasting random rolls.
Sorry for the trouble.

No worries. The edit bug tends to clear itself up in time, and it generally only affects people who look at the post before it's edited.
I personally find the preview option very useful. I use it whenever I'm putting together a long post, especially one with a lot of rolls in it. If you preview frequently, it generally prevents the boards timing out on you. Of course, the boards can still mess up on occasion, so copying everything you've written is important. :)

Yeah, you ain't kidding. I've learned that the hard way too. :)
Gilfroy Fezziwig |
I absolutely want to play a Magus, but I don't have a concept yet. My second choice is an Elven Inquisitor of Desna, which I think is rather appropriate for an AP where there will a lot of travel.
Dranilis, the Inquisitor of Desna was raised as a merchant in Varisia before he came to his calling.
Go right ahead. I think, barring unexpected info from the players' guide, I'll use Gilfroy Fezziwig, gnome oracle of Sivanah, arcane sorcerer, mystic theurge extraordinaire. This difficulty with illusion specialists is finding a DM who is willing to allow flexible and creative solutions to combat scenerios, and I know there are no worries here.
Joana |
Sorry, Wander Weir; I thought this might be the only game Foofelah had a decent shot at. Of course, a ring of climbing is totally wasted on her, but she craves the limelight.
I was actually worried that the Licktoads might decide not to go look for her, seeing this as their perfect opportunity to be rid of Old Foofelah at last. Then I thought that, due to their racial desire for instant gratification, they wouldn't be able to resist the chance to hit her with a club.
Wander Weir |
That's okay, Joana. The challenge I really wanted was the riding one but I didn't get online again until hours after that one was passed. The stealth challenge was my second best but I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have rolled as well as you and I probably would have failed the challenge anyway.
Even if Pussl doesn't get to take part in one, I think these contests are awesome. Very fun.
It'd have been pretty funny if Old Foofelah spent the rest of the night hiding in the swamp. I imagine Reta, at least, would eventually go looking for her though.

What is the social norm in regards to killing other goblins for little or no reason? Is it perfectly acceptable, or are their cultural taboos in place to prevent tribes from wiping themselves out for fun?
Heh. Goblins have little in the way of actual rules beyond writing is evil. Fighting and squabbling between each other is quite common. Outright killing of each other is probably much less common, but it undoubtedly occurs from time to time. When it does, the killer will get away with it if he/she is capable of bullying the others into submission (or killing them too) or the others simply don't care. If the others do care and are strong enough to overpower the killer, then the killer will probably be killed, too.
How do they avoid wiping themselves out for fun? Well, quite simply most goblins don't go around killing other goblins for little or no reason. If they're angry or annoyed, beating the other goblin up a little is usually enough to satisfy them. And those few who do go around killing for little or no reason are usually not strong enough or smart enough to survive for long.

I was just thinking last night, while we have all this equipment on loan we should stage a coup when we come back with the fireworks. Old Foofelah could let Chuffy wear her ring, and he could sneak-climb up the Teeter Chair and kill the Chief. Then we could all fight over who gets to be the new Chief....
Javell DeLeon |
I get all that. I just want to know if Chiggo sets this goblin that just kicked him on fire, am I going to wreck the whole game...
I mean, if it had been a guy goblin, Chiggo would have just kicked him in the squishies. Setting her on fire, however, seems like something I should avoid.
For now...
Well that's a relief. I was wondering where you were going with all this. ;)

It wouldn't wreck the whole game; it would just add an unexpected angle to it. The tribe might drive him out, but he could join up again with the party in the morning, and by the time they come back, the tribe might have forgotten about the whole thing, especially if the party comes back victorious with the fireworks.
Of course, the tribe might just kill him rather than drive him out, but even then, it wouldn't wreck the game. There'd still be 5 party members left. :)

Heh. I wondered if anyone would consider something like that. :)

"Me be Pussl, me be brave,
get in me way you dig your grave!Stink be pet he do be foul,
anger him not he'll do more than growl.Bite you, scratch you, tear you up,
Stink is wolverine, not a pup!Left in swamp, little Pussl did not die,
Foolish old Foofelah may wonder why!Pussl smart and strong, he knows enough,
he masters plants and animals, all that stuff!""As Chief instructs, Pussl obey,
he'll find the fireworks and win the day!"
I knew Wander would eat that up! After seeing Lorenz and his fantastic orating, how could anyone not!
I felt bad for you WW, so when that jumped in my head, I'm thinking, "Well if Navior goes with it, Wander will jump all over it." The only thing I was worried about was the Perform check. If he could just make that, it ain't gonna be a problem.
Great job, WW! :)
