Jivaji's Background:
_ Wit, guile, and luck are the only things that kept Jivaji alive on the rough streets of Katapesh. His skill with trap and blade came with being always on his toes; whether by avoiding the law, the thuggish brutes who rules the back allies, or the inevitable retribution the victims of his burglary.

_ His survival often relied on frequent trips out of the city at night, to prey on unsuspecting beast and traveler alike. However, unlike many of his contemporaries, he only took what he needed, and even occasionally showed some sympathy to the seemingly innocent.

_ Jivaji yearns to live a life where stealing from innocent people isn't a necessary part of life, and has recently begun training himself to withstand the trials of the wandering road.

Two Years Later:
_ Moving fluidly through the underbrush, between tree and gnarled root, Jivaji Varesh flees through the thick vegetation ahead of him. Distant sounds of feverish battle bubbles up from behind him. Panting, Jivaji pauses to take in a mouthful of water from his waterskin. His looks behind him briefly as the water does it's duty, soothing his burning throat. As he looks back, the awful vision that caused him to flee flashes through his mind again.

_ The scout creeped silently in the shadows beside the road, stalking the woman carrying berries back to town. Jivaji was over 100 feet away, watching from the side of a steep hill to the north. He knew what was going to happen the second he saw the mark of Mormont on the scout's belt. The truly terrible things was, he knew there was nothing he could do. How many times had he seen this play out?

_ The logistics of feeding an army of that size was the only fact that brought Jivaji any source of peace. He could get maybe a couple months of good hunting and repairs before Mormont's bloodlust set him to find new grounds.

_ The scout knew what he was doing. Avoiding a patch of thistlegrass on the ground--prominent in this area, and quite noisy--he slipped up behind the woman and clamped his hand over her nose and mount. Once wrestled to the ground, and set to knife-point, the woman stopped struggling, and the scout let loose a shrill whistle. With the bloodthirsty army making ample noise for cover, and with no desire to witness the deeds soon to occur in Darpuul, nor the unspeakable one no doubt already occuring on the road, Jivaji slipped away from his vantage point.

_ Jivaji knew that the only benefit of alarming the residents would have been to cause a delay between himself and the swath of destruction, a distraction that Mormont's army would enjoy too much. Still, he had to do something, so he shouted out a brief alarm as he skirted the town. To do nothing else wore on his heart heavily. More heavily than he had a mind to admit.

_ The whole scene flashed by in the span of two heavy breaths. Jivaji set back on his course, and in a short time, he arrived at his camp; a well-hidden sunken hide-away surrounded by a thick copse of trees. There waited his faithful warhorse, Faxmir, and simple packbeast, Dox. Hurredly, he loaded his belongings back onto the back of the rested donkey, destroyed any evidence of a camp, and set out--on horseback--with haste once again. He knew that sooner or later, something was going to have to give. Sooner, rather than later, he found himself facing a coastline, and completely surprised that he was not alone.

Description:
_ This slouching, bird-like humanoid is draped in non-descript, loose-fitting clothing. You can hear soft, hoarse mutterings come from his prominent beak when no one is talking to him.

To use Wild Empathy, you and the animal must be within 30 feet of one another under normal circumstances. Generally, influencing an animal in this way takes 1 minute, but as with influencing people, it might take more or less time. You can use this ability to influence a magical beast with an Intelligence score of 1 or 2, but you take a -4 penalty on the check.

Alright, I'm gonna throw this cat in.

Joe

Spoiler:
I know, I know. This is one of the most plainest characters you're gonna see. He is, after all, Joe the Fighter. He was like the second character I ever ran. Ran him in Master of the Fallen Fortress.(There is another DM on these boards that is running the same adventure. He's offering it for first timers like I was offered at the time. That's how I got chosen by Scipion.) Probably not what you're looking for, but, what the hey. His background and reason to hate Mormunt is in his profile. Will obviously tweak him to fit the campaign, if chosen. I just don't see a reason to, if not. If any questions, feel free to ask.

Unless of course your question is, "Why are you submitting this character?" If that's the case, then just ignore this in its entirety. It would not be the first time, trust me. :)

Javell is WAY too humble! He's not keen on elaborate background perhaps, but he's an amazing player who gives a true memorable personality to his characters. Don't let him fool you . He's the player that creates a group out of individuals. I learned a lot watching him.

I will take you into consideration. Truth is, your the first average Joe to apply, so there is a good chance you might make it in. The region I made is very flexible. You can make up your own home town, society, and way of life. The important parts are, you either lived in Darpuul all your life or have fled there from wherever your homeland is. Second is that you need some kind of motivation for wanting to see Mormont in person. (So far revenge seems to be the easy choice, yet to see any other reasons)

Hey Shanosuke, this looks interesting and I've been feenin for some pbp action. I'll whip up a character for your review kind sir.

Alright, sorry for the delay but here is my submission. He still needs gear and familiar stats but other than that Vargas should be good to go. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Vargas:

Vargas can remember little of his life before Mormot's men attacked the small fishing village he had called home. He has a vague recollection of the orphanage where he grew up, he remembers learning to fish and hunt but little beyond that. His first solid memory is of hiding in the air pocket of an overturned canoe down by the docks, of slowely and painstakingly maneuvering the downed boat away from the village and the screams. After making it further down the coast, the young half orc crept back into the forest, sadly Mormont's men found evidence of his escape and so he found himself being hunted. He isn't really sure of how anymore but over the next few days of hiding and fear, he forged a strange bond with a compsognathus, one of the many small dinosaurs that live in the jungle. He came to know the creatures thoughts and it spoke to him of paths to great power, of how to hide and deceive.

The tricks Vargas learned from his new companion proved potent enough to allow him to escape those who hunted him. After eluding Mormont's men, he eventually made his way to another settlement and attempted to find a place for himself out of the way of the other villagers. His heritage and new abilities tended to put him at odds with the general populace but this no longer bothered him. Vishe, the name he had picked for his reptilian cohort, was all the company he really required anymore. He spent his days practicing his art and serving the village by doing what he could to heal the villagers of hunting accidents and the like. His newfound peace was short-lived however as Mormont's armies continued their campaign and once more his village was attacked and he was driven from his new home. His powers allowed him to evade the soldiers but there was little he could do to stave off an attack and so his life became a viscious cycle. He would move from place to place, always just a step ahead of Mormont's campaign of destruction.

Eventually he made it to Darpuul, the last remaining refuge for those fleeing Mormont's wrath. He cut out a meager existence within the settlement until Mormont's reach inevitably made it to the last place Vargas had left to make a home for himself. This time the attack was especially brutal and dispite his precautions, the half-orc was barely able to escape to the coast with his life. Looking around at the other survivors, he saw more competence among the survivors than he had expected. Exhausted, the rage that was his heritage rose to prominence, this time would be different. No longer could he hope to run from Mormont's reach...there was nowhere left to run. The only hope left was to fight back against the murderous Mormont and his armies.

Appearance:

Vargas is slim for a Half-orc, his orcish features less pronounced on his narrow face than many of his mixed blood. He wears a long coat of dark leather and wide brimmed hat. Numerous fetishes and small trinkets hang from his clothes and hair. The large falchion strung across his shoulders seems almost comically large against the slender half-orc's frame. A small raptor like dinosaur follows him at all times, often riding on his shoulder or running at his feet.

Shanosuke, question for you would you allow a race such as a minotaur?

Gundkri Stonetooth
Half-orc Ranger(Guide)

Spoiler:
At first glance, Gundkri's orcish forebears shows through far more then his human heritage. The beastial features are far more promiment and highlight his enlarged tusks. Powerfully built, he towers over almost everyone around him.

As a youth his village had been attacked by Mormont's men. Luckily, or not so luckily as he thought for a long time, he was able to escape but only due to his parents covering his escape as they fled the village. Alone and lost he made his east and northward. Everytime he came across a settlement he was turned away, just another mouth to feed, his feral appearance, whatever it was he never knew. Sometimes he was able to get enought food to go on but others was with stones and whatnot chasing after him.

Eventually he made his way into the foothills of the Aggonath Mountains. Not having seen another person for almost a week he was stumbling along, when he came across a contraption of rope, twine, and wood. Curious he studied for some time before continuing on. However, he shortly found another one but this one had a rabbit caught up in it, stomach rumbling he rushed forward to grab the prize when he heard a voice behind him. "Son, where I come from thats what we call poachin' and its not looked on too kindly." Looking back he sees a gruff man covered in leathers standing there with a bow and spear. "Ain't you a hungry looking one? Big too." the man says. "Come on, I'll get ya somethin' to eat. You talk?" Nodding that he did he followed the man waiting to flee as soon as he turned around to jab at him with the spear, but the promise of food kept him going.

Two weeks later, having learned how to feed himself in the wild Gundkri watched the man leave returning back to his home. He had found a new home, he wasn't leaving it now.

A few years down the road Gundkri had become full grown and had established himself in the mountains and foothills. He has seen more and more people he thinks are refugees coming this way. He sat and watched them stumbling and crying the whole way, waiting for them to get out of his home. Those that died he went and claimed what he wanted but otherwise let nature deal with them.

That is until one day he saw the man with a group of them. It seemed like he was helping them get through the mountains. That night while he watched, the man left the camp and approached Gundkri's own. "I see your still up here, I was wondering what had become of you. You been seein' a lot of refugees I imagine." Without waiting for Gundkri's nod, he continues on. "You know Mormont?" at Gundkri's snarl, "That you do then. Well he's on the move again. These people, they're runnin just like you were when I found you. There is a town not that far from here, Darpuul. I'm takin' 'em there. Not sure how safe it'll be in the long run but for now it is." Pausing a moment he continues, "Would you be willing to come along? I could use an extra set of eyes and hands that I can trust with what needs doin'." Standing, Gundkri replies, "This is my home, I ain't givin' it up now." Nodding the man leaves returning to the group he was with.

The next day he was watching the group set out again. Just about when he was about to head out again, he saw a figure dash into the camp that had been vacated. Watching the figure rummage around for any refuse, his thoughts go back to when he younger, finding an abandoned camp, desperate to find something to eat, feeling like his stomach is trying to eat him from the inside out. Back to the present the figue is sitting on a log gnawing on something it found. "You headin' to Darpuul too? Come on. We'll get you some food as we go."

Looking back he wonders why he ever left the mountains, most of the refugees he and the man find are next to useless. This group is probably one of the worst. He had to range wide to find any game they hadn't scared off with their racket. And when he got back they were all in a panic about him 'abandoning' them. Bah!

Well atleast this trip is almost over Darpuul is just around the next bend. In just a few hours he will be at the tavern knocking back some of their ale. Lost in thought Gundkri doesn't see the smoke rising over the trees, or the attackers waiting in ambush.

The next thing he knows he is in a ditch on the side of the trail. Groggily he looks up to see troops wearing Mormont's markings slaughtering the refugee's. Leaving them to their fate he starts crawling away some distance before fighting to his feet. Picking a direction he starts walking trying to clear his head.

In a fog he has no recollection of his trip until a wave of water knocked him to his feet. Spitting water he sits up and looks around. He some how made to the beach east of Darpuul. Looking around he sees some other survivors. Studying them they don't look quite so useless as he last people he was with. Maybe.

Sorry its so long and took so long took me a bit to get figured out. Please let me know what you think.

Also, had a question about the starting gold. Did you just want the die roll x100 or the normal starting gold x100? Example 5d6x100 or (5d6x10)x100

Edit: Hmm. Thats even longer then I thought.

Dreaming Warforged's application for an elven witch. Some crunch to finalize (equipment, familiar's stats).

I have seen rules for playable minotaurs. If you have them, I would not be bothered by it. This is one of my most versatile campaign's as far as player characters are concerned. The only rule concerning what race you play as is that they have to start at 1 HD. Other than that, anything is game.

Die roll times 100. You guys wont be able to buy or sell anything for a good long while. So get some nice things to start. Oh and before I forget. If you take the rich parents trait, the 900 is times 10. making it 9000. Could almost by a mithral heavy armor with that.

I'll read your story once I get back from work

Shanosuke, would you say that we'll be in the wilderness for quite a bit? If so (and if I get selected), then I will probably swap around my traits a bit (heirloom weapon and rich parents have the same fluff basically) to afford potions for the party.

I think someone mentioned they were submitting an alchemist.

But rings of sustenance would pay off in the long-run! (assuming we could craft at night)

Or find a secluded base of operations - with some people crafting, some people defending, and some people hunting for food/resources...

just a thoguht.

The Exchange

Yeah, I put forth an Alchemist, and if selected, will start out with 11 pots of CLW. I would, however like to change his name. Quoice was really just a placeholder. I'd rather go with Eltumal.

I just remembered that I still haven't picked a campaign trait. Dino Expert is an option and would work well with the ranger, but it seems to me that the Town Watch trait fits his experiences better. The idea being that he kept an eye out for the advancing armies, even though he usually didn't cooperate with a coordinated effort by a city, since he valued his mobility more than the stability that a city offered.

His motivation to confront Mormont is vastly outweighed by his survival instinct. He knows too well that resistance leads to death, and the only thing that seems to work so far has been flight, and being able to do so quickly. It is possible, however, that he could believe it possible if he ever met a force that was powerful and organized enough to make a difference.

due to not being able to post until Tuesday and not wanting to hold up the game I'm going to withdraw my application but know I'll be lurking when I get back...*evil laugh*

Besides I've already played through this campaign twice(one of the few perks of knowing the DM in person) so its only fair I give up my slot to someone who hasn't played before.

I guess I assumed -since character selection wasn't happening til Friday - that the game wouldn't really kick off until next week, anyway. Is that not the case, Shanosuke? I know I'll be busy this weekend with family and fireworks.

Yeah no kiddin. I got so much to do before Monday.

Okay, Recruitment will be open until Friday 3' o clock PM Central time zone. Once I hit that Mark I will be accepting no more applications for this campaign. Final selections will be made Monday. Once everyone who is selected is accounted for then the campaign will begin.

@Retech Yes I would say that for the first three chapters, you will be trying to survive the wilderness. There will be some locations for small time trade and stuff.

@Alchemists. Just so you guys are aware, You can use Survival, Perception, and knowledge skills to find alchemic ingredients. Then you wont actually have to buy them, though cost will effect the DC of those checks

The Exchange

@Shanosuke, I think that only affects me. As far as I've seen, there are no other alchemists. Does that mean I'm in? :P

Just kidding, I know I have to go through the same process as everyone else.

On the minotaur the only rules I have found have been in the pathfinder monster builder.
Racial Ability:
Natural Cunning: Immune to maze spells and can never be lost
Racial Attack:
Powerful charge Gore attack (a bonus +2 to hit and does 2d6 dmg)
Racial Traits: +4 Perception, +4 Survival Darkvision: 60ft
They didn't mention rules about stats bonus and negatives, but they did mention that they have low intellect so I would guess it is a +2 Str -2 Int but let me know what you think.
Updated background: Fenrus saw one of the lieutenants kill his mother.

Sovereign Court

Hey Shanosuke this is my application my stat block will come later,

Name: Warlord Bellos Thunderhorn also known as the Kobold King to many other mercs.

He is a CN dwarf Cavalier of the Cockatrice, who rides a triceratops and will be multi-classing with Bard (arcane duelist) to become a battle herald in the future.
Trait: Town Watch.

Background and escape:
About 30 years ago Bellos left his home and ventured off to the mysterious land called Lanodia. He wished to avoid becoming a miner like the rest of his family; he didn’t care for such a simple life and craved a new adventure. Bellos signed on with a caravan guard for a merchant guild, who paid for his travel to Lanodia. He thought it was going to be non-stop battles and new experiences but sadly it was a lot of standing around, and then move a head with your mount to move a tree in the way. The caravan captain did a good job of avoiding ambushes or talking his way out of trouble so the action was minimum at best. After a few years of this guard duty, Bellos was annoyed and spent many of nights with drunken rants on how he would run things and destroy all in there way. Well one night during a big rant of comparing the Captain to school marm, Bellos was chosen to collect fire would through the mountain path. Bellos brought a small keg of ale as company and preceded walk around till he got bored and report back saying there wasn’t any to be found. The dwarf saw some lights down below and heard a low chanting. Gripping his axe and polishing off the keg the dwarf moved to light hoping to have some fun. As heard the chanting get louder he lost his footing and tumbled down the mountain only rocks and a small hut braking his fall. The Chanting was around him turning into a commotion when he shook the ringing out of his head. In front of him Bellos saw an old suit of dwarven armor which looked to be covered in various bones, horns, and weaved charms. Ignoring the noises outside he grabbed the helmet, a brass colored it was a thick open faced helmet, adorned with a polished kobold skull on the top of it. He suddenly heard the door open, and instinctively put on the helmet and readied his axe. In came a horde of red scaled kobolds, all surrounding him in an instant. He stared at them as they stared at him, no one making a move which felt like a lifetime for Bellos, the dwarf was about to swing his axe until the kobolds started bowing to him like he was there leader. The dwarf knew nothing of humbleness, and held his axe high in triumph! Bellos later found out why, apparently that night the kobold tribe was calling for the great serpent for a new leader that could wear the ceremonial armor and lead them to victory. (The ceremonial armor was a old dwarfs armor that he lost down the mountainside and it showed up during a different ceremony and the kobolds say it a sign from the great serpent that there warrior king would soon be arriving.) It didn’t take Bellos long to get used to being a leader, he started to train the kobolds in dwarven tactics. Seeing that this tribe had an adept sense with some of the local dinosaurs, he started figuring out in making a cavalier force using these creatures. They mainly used the flyers and smaller raptors but those weren’t Bellos’ style. During a hunt Bellos was running from a tyrannosaurus and out of no where a triceratops ran its horns into the creature. The dwarf capitalized by hoping up the 3 horned beasts and slamming his axe into the creature. After that it was kismet. He had his kobold subjects help him train the beast that most reflected the dwarf and Tripik has been his mount ever since.
As a year past, Bellos Thunderhorn was now Warlord Thunderhorn! He decided after running off a local goblin cave from his tribe’s home of Horn Follow, that his troops were ready! He had plans to have his mercenary company, named Rolling Thunder, take the area by storm and become bigger then that Mormont guy. As he traveled to a large village he found a small scouting party of Mormont’s troops. Bellos and crew quickly dispatched them and rode to the village thinking to claim his fame, as he showed the town elders his price they offered him protection rights to east side of the town. Bellos took it as ownership, and no one had time to correct him cause soon after his appointment Mormont’s forces were spotted. The dwarf and his kobold cavalry, set up to take on the assault. As they heard of the size of the army, Warlord Bellos got nervous and didn’t want his mercenary band to end this soon, so he came up with a plan. As the forces came charging in he found the weakest point of the charge line, and used his kobold forces as a spear to penetrate the line and keep on moving as they hit the line, they heard his horn’s battle cry. Suddenly they heard a shout from Bellos ”I see Mormont! I will slay him for Horn Follow!” But alas he wasn’t there the dwarf just charged through the ranks with his kobolds shielding him and Tripik as rode away from the battle. The dwarf had heard of retreat location, and thought he would go there and try to raise a new army and maybe some of his kobolds survived unlikely since there kobolds he thought…

Warlord Bellos Thunderhorn: Bellos stands close to 5 feet, with a stout build. His hair and beard are a wild red color, while his eyes are a gentle blue. Throughout his beard are bones and beads decorated by his kobold tribe while his hair goes to his shoulders but is usually covered by his helmet. He wears an old style dwarven (either scale or banded not sure yet) armor, which is a brass color but is covered by bone spikes and various woven trinkets and kobold symbols of the great serpent. His helmet is open face with two long plated earflaps and curves down in the back. On top of it is the old Kobold Kings skull with a red horse hair coming out of the back of the helmet. He always carriers his axe that is decorated in a similar style with the tyrannosaurus’s tooth connected in the pommel. He usually carries his heavy wooden shield that has three horns spiking out of it with a thunder cloud painted on it.

Tripik: This big creature stands taller then Bellos and twice as stout. The triceratops’s scales start on the top as dark red and go into a dusty yellow near the feat. Black stripes are on his sides and his crown. His horns are polished white; Tripik wears a colored wooden barding armor. The colors are mostly there to reflect his natural scales and he has a look of stubbornness that only Bellos can beat.

Reason for going after Mormont:
Bellos wants to kill Mormont, not for the same reasons as most. He doesn’t care that he killed his kobolds only that he took away his forces in a single battle. Bellos wants to be a great Warlord with a vast army. He see’s it as if he kills Mormont in front of his men they will bow to him and in one glorious strike he will rule this land with Mormont’s forces. Oh yes this is what the great serpent had planned for Warlord Thunderhorn, he only wonders what kind of troops will arrive at the beach that he can use to make his dream come true.

Hey Shanosuke, this looks interesting and I've been feenin for some pbp action. I'll whip up a character for your review kind sir.

Here we are, stats, story, and all of that in the profile.

Thank you for the consideration.

I need all applicants to post me a message saying they still want in. If I don't get a post from you by Sunday evening, I will assume you've lost interest. I will still take apps until 14 hours from now. I just want to make sure everyone who applied is still with me.

Still interested. Could play his as is (race wise) or looking to a minotaur.

Definitely still in!

I still would like to participate. And if you need to look at the character stats Gundkri Stonetooth

Still here, still want in.

Still interested (as Silent).

Still interested!

Still here. If I'm accepted, I'll probably still make a few changes on my character sheet though, if that's alright with you.

Still interested.

Still interested. For some reason, the messageboards are not allowing me to post.
Of course, once I call them out, it works. :P

Profile is up.

Lol! Warforged is absolutely right, I truly am the least elaborate background guy on these boards. Thanks for the praise DW, I appreciate it. Don't know if I'm all that but thanks nonetheless. :)

Now let me just say, Dreaming Warforged is a really reliable/good poster.

The same goes for MythrilDragon. Both would be great additions for your game.

You won't be disappointed if you decide to go with either/both of these cats, I promise you. I'm in different pbp's with both of them and they're fantastic.

Just my two cents is all. Keep the change. ;)

Yep. Still around.

I'm still in.

I've been going through your apps. This is going to be tough. If anyone wants to add anything to give them an edge, though I'm not sure what more I'd ask for. At most I will take eight of you. In the end it will likely come down to story diversity, class diversity, and to some degree I'll be looking at personalities. I like personalities.

excited.

This.

James Martin Posted first on this campaign with a really interesting concept. Does anyone know what has become of him?

The Exchange

I haven't seen head nor tail of him, which is surprising, because I'm on for around 8-16 hours/day.

I'm also interested in what happened for Mahorfeus. He had a neat idea for a Saurian Druid.

Also, What's the deal with all the half-orcs? That must be a popular pick these days. Hehe, This is going to be a savage campaign. I can tell.

I'll likely be starting the actual game itself on Tuesday or Wednesday. (Monday is the fourth.) I have a lot to get ready. (So much typing.)

I like a lot of what I'm seeing. I've got a few early favorites. I hope the others who showed interest initially come back. I'd like to have a large selection. Good amount of apps for sure.

The Exchange

The suspense is killing me.

I also haven't seen any sign of Mahorfeus.
